I have been searching for a video like this for two weeks!!!!! Pouring through the forums everyone claims that in order to run 35/12.5/R20 on a stock 4th Gen 2500 you’ll need spacers or a level to mitigate rubbing. All I needed was one video to tell me that I could run 35/12.5 and not have issues to pull the trigger on some Kenda Klever RTs for my Mega Cab. Thanks!!!

I went with the 17" Methods that CJC sells and put 37" Ridge Grapplers on em. My 2500 Cummins has a 2.75" and 1" Thuren leveling lift on it. I love my set up and really only trimmed a tiny piece of pinch weld on the back of the front wheel wells.

I can confirm that on a 2013 (so this goes for '10, '11, '12), 35×12.5 on stockers lightly rubs the stock upper arms. With Thuren high clearance arms zero rub. Toyo 37x13.5 R17 on aftermarket 17x9 +20mm offset rim and Thuren high clearance arms and minor trimming to the pinch weld there will be minor rubbing on the upper links at full lock.

I have a lift question for the 2019+ Power Wagon. I’m piecing out a Thuren 1.5” level kit for my 19 PW and I’m a bit confused how the suspension geometry will be effected. From head on perspective, I’m re-centering my axles with Thuren adjustable track bars. That geometry I understand. Now from the perspective of the side. When the axle drops lower than the factory position because of the taller coils, do the radius arms pull the axle toward the center of the truck also slightly rotating the axle?

Thanks for the info -great video- I'm thinking of going with the 35x12.5x20 toyo AT 3's on the stock wheels for my 2019 ram 2500 truck. The final deciding factor for me i and my question for you is -will the new 35" tire will fit in the spare tire location - I don't think I want to carry my spare in the bed of I don't have too
@OffroadTreks
@OffroadTreks 2 года назад
Yes, generally it will when running an AT. I put my Toyo AT/II up there. But a tireshop will tell you "Nope won't fit" because they are lazy. So they'll probably send you home with it in the bed. There is a TRICK and METHOD to it. I had the guy demonstrate it to me, and I'm like, dude... because everyone on the forums runs into this. Air spare down to 18 or 20psi, just LOW but not fall of the rim low. Put it on that little crank, then you have to guide it up and tip it. If you just put it on the crank and go straight up it hits the rear track bar. So you have to manually maneuver it. I fail to understand why it's so hard for tire shops to get under there and guide it up. But it is. But it will fit. Lots of guys have stuck them there. Now if you do an MT it might not fit as the tread blocks might be too aggressive. It really can vary tire to tire.

Please don't nail me for this question, but I am sticking with metric sizing as most of my driving is on-road but I do tow a camper in the snow in the winter. I am looking at a set of 325/65 R18 for my Ram 2500. This is around 34.6" x 12.8". Can I still expect some minor rub just due to the width? Or should I just stay away from this width all together?

2018 PW. I got the AEV 3" lift. Falcon tire- 37zx12.5. On a full turn a slight nip in the rear/bottom WW. A 12" cutout, replaced with a rubber strip. AEV is one of the quality lifts. I wished I shopped a bit more. Like this mans shop's quality too. Do they make 38z? Also the Falcon tires have a tad of road noise, too. A little miss led with the tire noise and taking the front dip even.

@OffroadTreks
@OffroadTreks 4 года назад
They must have really improved things with the new trucks. Never heard of anyone having that sort of luck. And I've been running 37's for quite some time. I can't really speak to 3rd gens. But the 27mm AEV Katla's I have still kept the tire inside the Fender flares on my truck. Which I think it part of the reason to run within those specs Thuren set, +18~27mm - I think he has some info about 3rd gens and tire fitment on his website. But I have seen some of these other offsets like 0 and stuff and guys get a lot of tire poke. I'd like to avoid that, and avoid flinging things up the side of my truck. I'm running hydro now, which isn't just for guys with 40's. It takes a lot of the stress off the drag link and the front rack bar.

I appreciate the video. I am reading in a number of other truck sites on the web that for a 2019 2500 4x4 I will need a leveling kit for 35x12.5x20 wheels and tires otherwise they will rub. So I would need a leveling kit correct?
@OffroadTreks
@OffroadTreks 4 года назад
No. You don’t. People just keep saying that. It’s just one of those endlessly repeated wise tales. Leveling does nothing to change where the tire rubs. We demonstrated that with the 35’s on the 2019.

Im wanting to put the largest diameter tire on my 2021 Ram 3500 Limited 4x4 Mega Cab NOT Dually with stock 20 inch wheels. I just rolled over 100k Km on it and Ive only had it 2 years. I did a factory order. I have currently worn through about 50% of the fourth set of tires already. Which I know is insane. I have to have somewhat of an agressive tire as I haul heavy loads through mud and snow daily in the business Im in Im also on the highway alot obviously by the miledge. I forgot to mention I also have the 6.7 HO Diesel with the Aisin tran. Its a very heavy truck and Im hauling loads up to 18000 lbs plus my truck at 9500 lbs. Im eating tires like crazy. Now heres what my latest research has led me..... BF Goodrich K02 have the highest heat rating which is something I never considered but I am now. But here is my other dilemma. I also have the air bags in the rear suspension for leveling. I dont want to do any lifting, no wheel changes, or and mods that way. I just want to know with all of that in mind what is the largest diameter tire that I can put on it with no rub or very minimal rub. I dont care about having a wide tire. Im not after a look, Im after functionality with more circumference to last longer. Prefer 10 or more ply tire for strength. 37x12.5 ? 37x11.5? 39x11.5? or is it 35x12.5? Any replies would be greatly appreciated. Thankyou

@OffroadTreks
@OffroadTreks 4 года назад
AEV Katla or Salta wheels wrapped in 37x12.50R17 Toyo MT or Cooper STT Pro or even BFG KM3's are all a good choice. They shouldn't rub. 37's on my stock wheels only ever rub radius and sway bar at full lock of the steering wheel. And never rubbed the pinch seam area from what I could tell. The stockers keep the tire tucked in the most. Others move them out away from those and they end up hitting that pinch seam more.

@OffroadTreks
@OffroadTreks 2 года назад
I do not have that wheel. It's the 8.5 wheel. If you get the 10 you will discover the offset is drastically different. The 17x10 is designed for use with the High Mark Flares and moves the tire further outside the fender. It says this on AEV's website. "The 17×8.5 Katla features a Ram-specific backspacing that is designed for the perfect fitment with or without factory fender flares when using up to a 37” tire (w/ AEV suspension). The 17×10 fitment is designed for customers who are using AEV’s HighMark Fender Flares with 40″ tires installed (w/ AEV suspension)."

I’ve got a 2012 3500 SRW with AEV wheels and 35” tires. Fits fine. Thuren Fab has a good tech section on what will fit or not and how much you might rub. I may go 37” when it’s time to replace. I would get Thuren or Carli control arms when I do that for clearance. I have 2” coils, but like the video says wheel offset is what you need.

I'm not sure how wide those are. I had a 2012 1500 a long while back and did a 315 which was almost 35. But I did have to run a 2.5 inch lift in the front. The real issue is whether or not the tire store will mount the tire. Some won't on certain wheels. My current wheels they will mount the tire loose, but they won't mount the tires on the truck at all for liability. So I have to bring the wheels in, get tires mounted, and take them home and install them.

You don't need to push the axle forward. AEV does that to center the wheel in the wheel well with their flares.

If your gonna spend the money for 39" just stuff 40" really just need AEV front pucks(sorry hitech aluminum shock mount) AEV Drag link, right hub assembly/mount bracket for drag link, lower radius. You have the rest of kit
@OffroadTreks
@OffroadTreks 4 года назад
None of the AEV parts you mention do anything to clear 40's. 40's require a lot more, like their flare High Mark Flare kit which is a lot of bodywork, time, labor. Those flares, well price them out. I'd also need new wheels, as the High Mark Flares need a different offset. Also, I've been kicking the "regear" can down the road. Can't do that with 40's at all. So the cost is ten times as much. Easily - 5-7 grand. 39's, specifically those BFG's are actually 38's and fit with less effort, cost and time. Trim, and Control Arms, boom, done. 39's and bragging rights, even if they aren't true to size.
@CascadingDream
@CascadingDream 4 года назад
@@OffroadTreks You're certainly right about the cost of doing 40's right but there isn't a clear line to determine when you should regear. Frankly the Ram 6 speed gas trucks need to be regeared for anything larger than 33" tires.
@OffroadTreks
@OffroadTreks 4 года назад
@@CascadingDream disagree. 35x12.50 will reduce the effective ratio to like a 3.83 and 37's knock it down to like 3:62; considering the stock 2500 6.4 non-PW comes with 3.73 that's not terrible. Certainly can kick the can, and certainly not really needed with 35's. Def an improvement with 37's if you want to stay close to the stock ratio at 4.10. But you're still within the operating range of the transmission. So, I don't buy added strain arguments. 39's on the other hand, are going to knock the truck down around 3.44 - so those 4.88's or 5.13's are going to start looking really favorable.
@CascadingDream
@CascadingDream 4 года назад
@@OffroadTreks It isn't about added strength, the truck feels sluggish. Just because RAM sells 3.73s doesn't change the fact the 66RFE transmission is geared for a Cummins and performs poorly behind the 6.4 Hemi with all but small tires. 4.88's and 35's is probably a pretty good start. Having made the jump from 4.10's to 5.13's with 37" tires I can tell you from first hand experience the stock gearing is inappropriate for even 35's.

Will a 35" tire on the stock wheels fit where the spare goes?
@OffroadTreks
@OffroadTreks 4 года назад
Yes it will! Most will. I've heard a few people with MT's have some difficulty. Tires vary a little in size and tread depth. But most will fit. Two-person job. Need to guide the tire because if you put it on the hoist and go straight up, it will bump the track bar and make you think it won't fit. So you need an extra hand to guide while someone cranks the spare tire hoist.
@PiratePTG

I can confirm that BFG Mud Terrain 35's on the stock spare tire wheel will fit in both a '98 RAM 2500 360 gasser w/ 8' bed and a '12 RAM 2500 408 CTD w/ 8' bed. It was fairly trivial on my old '98, I would just have to make sure the tire was pulled all the way to the rear so the pumpkin cover wouldn't hit the tire. Plenty of room. On my '12 it's a freakishly tight fit. Even with the tire pulled back, the diff is scary close to the tire. Also, on my '12 I have to air the tire down and push, pry and wedge the tire up into place. Then air it up to around 40-ish. To get it out of the spare pocket, I use the handle of my HiLift to pry it down. Takes a couple of pulls from each side and out she comes. I have on-board air so after the tire is mounted, I air it up to the correct level. Both RAMs were/are stock suspension and the 35's fit. No issues at all in the '98 but I have a monster winch and bumper on the front of the '12 so have more front droop and have some rub issues. Next project is a Rancho 2" lift plus level. Should stop the front rubbing and make the '12 look less like a low rider...

I think 35's are the best all-around tire. Especially when towing. I never really noticed it, towing or performance-wise that much when I ran Toyo Open Country AT/II's in 35x12.50R17 - but I'd be lying if I said I didn't notice it when I went to 37's. Around town, unloaded it's fine. But hitched up with the Airstream, it's nowhere near as good as it was stock. Re-gearing would help. But yeah. 37's are heavier, more rotational mass, it's a hit on performance for sure. 35's are great, you get a little extra cushion and clearance if you want to get offroad without the performance hit you get from running 37's.

@@matthewhibbs6098 My 35's that I first ran were E rated and had more carrying capacity than the 33 inch D rated tires my Power Wagon came with. And my 37's which were D rated had a higher load index than the 35 E-rated tire. Don't look at the letters, because that is based on max air pressure. Just look at the load index/load rating for the tire and make sure it meets your needs. The C rated 39's actually have the same load rating as the E rated 35's. A little less than my 37's but still more than the old stock tires. It's just that they have a MAX PSI of 40 where the 37's had a max of 50 PSI and the 35's had a max of 60 PSI. BFG now makes a D rated 39 which is there KO2 that I might buy later this year. It's an AT but might become my new winter tire. Either way, just look at the load index/weight rating of the tire. That will tell you what you need to know.
