You should check out Queens of the Stone Age. They like to build their songs around a deep heavy riff and it gives their music a similar vibe to the Black Angels.

Most every band gets worse with age. It's almost a universal truth. These guys however, I mean this may be the best song they've written to date, and that's saying a lot.
Check Deftones. They were not famous at the beginning but really talented. See what they did to create their music. And after so many years they did finally got attention they deserved. TBA is not recognized worldwide because of singing daunting truth and reminding of reality and adult world. After hearing this song to be honest I felt threatened by real world that I run away from.
Explains a lot of the originality. My grandpa, childhood best friend, and an ex girlfriend were all left handed. I loved how they saw the world from a whole different view simply bc of using their left vs. right hand.
