Today I found out the betas hang to the right. I mean their mana symbol does at least.

Getting the mana symbol correct would be something serious counterfeiters had 30 years to learn. And anyway the Dual Lands are a thing. The bold artist box maybe new for some. But I imagine all of those features were known to 2nd generation counterfeiters by about 1998-2003. End of Reserved List beginning of Modern. After that they might have tried to improve passing the green dot test. I'm not saying "all counterfeiters can" I'm saying "serious ones worth stopping" would have been at that level. Stores and collectors are more educated what to look for.....and more educated what counterfeiters know. So in the first place....green dot, Black light, bend test, and blue core are tests you'll have to be thinking you'll be subjected to. Rudy didn't show everything.

Texture and general card feel is your best friend for a quicky- compare to other cards from the same set and print run if possible. The green dot + rosette pattern test is will already catch 99.9% of fakes.

@@bortbreadface6259 is it confirmed that its just 99.9 percent ? Did anyone ever find a fake that passed both green dot and rosette pattern ?

@@bortbreadface6259 i prefer more stable or call it analytical approaches than "feel" or "smell". For example japanese print runs can feel, smell and look like fakes if you never handled them. And can you specify what you mean with texture and how its quantified or and measurable?

@@maltefischer1830 I haven't seen or heard one, if one did exist though - and it did pass those tests then the makers of it wouldn't fuck up the simpler stuff like bend test, weight ect - so we would never know, right?

This is why I keep a few common/uncommon/(cheap) rares from each of the old school magic sets in a binder. I rarely buy reserve list stuff cuz I'm mostly draft play, but if i do...bring the binder and compare.

by very experienced you mean cursory internet search and some kind of magnification? Font/font position is almost always off and rosette and black lines always give it away

@@DanknDerpyGamer the black lines on the cards borders should be solid. If the black is made with the rosette pattern it’s a fake

@@chim007azo I thought the black-being-printed-separately thing was solved years ago, for better or worse - guess it depends on who makes the fake. (Also not sure how true the black-being-always-black thing is as an absolute, seeing I recall that there were some high res images of Force Of Will on MTGSalvation, and could distinctly see dots of turquoise in the black border, dots that couldn't come from jpeg artifacting.)

@@DanknDerpyGamer it’s not something that needs to be solved. It’s easily replicated at professional printing factories all over the word. The problem is the cost of setting up a factory that can do it. The cost makes it not worth it for making fakes and hoping to not get caught. Printing errors of color in the black is still not going to look like a rosette pattern. Solid black printing does not require a pattern, it has nothing to do with source .jpg Anyway like I said that’s just one easy spot. There are many easy giveaways they have to pass before you even get to worrying about light test and weight

One card can be the most counterfitted card whilst on average newer cards can be counterfitted more often :)
