In this video we read from "Kings Mountain and Its Heroes" by Lyman C. Draper, published all the way back in 1881. This is an episode released on Memorial Day, 2024, in memory of those who died during the 1780 attack by the British on South Carolina. 98 soldiers and officers were killed in the three month siege, along with about 20 citizens of Charleston.

Thank you for your mention of Memorial Day. Both my Dad, father in law, and three uncles fought in WWII and I have ancestors who fought for the US in every war from the Revolution to the Gulf War.

My favorite channel. You tell the story without waxing poetic like so many others.

Great video. Another piece of unworthy history regarding Charleston is the June 1776 Battle of Sullivan's Island.

I enjoyed this. I can't often put the Indian and western battles in relation to what was happening in the country at the time. I miss the larger context even though the stories themselves are so interesting. Everybody knows the importance of the Revolutionary War and stories like this enrich our understanding. Thanks

Interesting video The man , Lyman Draper, that wrote this had a lifelong interest in history especially the 1770’s He collected thousands of manuscripts as well as interviews of old people that were still alive
