When he spoke at Whitneys funeral - always gets to me. They grew up together and were childhood friends. Two random people who were kids together, one grew up to be a musical superstar and one of the best female vocalists ever, the other a Hollywood leading man and A-List actor.

My mom had dementia for a few years before she passed away. This was her favorite movie. She watched this over and over again every day for literally years. It brought her much happiness. She said everytime she watched that Kevin Costner was so handsome.
I'm sorry for your loss. Obviously there aren't many positives about dementia or Alzheimer's but I hope if I were to ever have either I could watch dances with wolves everyday for the first time. ♥️🥲
My great grandfather was this way with independence day. He watched that movie everyday basically on a loop. Never really told me the reasoning behind loving it so much though.

Actually she and Costner knew each other when they were kids because they went to the same church and they were childhood friends. Costner fought hard for the movie to take a chance and give Whitney Houston this role when she had never acted before.
@ericwillison4011 they were not childhood friends, Costner is almost a decade older than Whitney. What he meant was as kids both grew up in the Baptist faith. He grew up in CA, she was in NJ. Plus that man was inlove with her, go watch all his interviews about her, he didn't just see her as a friend, he was very attracted to her.
I heard Whitney's version first, that led to hearing Dolly's. I prefer Dolly's but they are both great, and it't awesome that they can feel a different way, almost having a different meaning.
Most people don’t realize this but the screenplay for this film was the very first screenplay that Lawrence Kasdan sold in Hollywood, back in 1977. He soon wrote another screenplay titled CONTINENTAL DIVIDE, which was soon sold to Universal and later made in 1981, starring John Belushi. Shortly after he sold that script to Universal at the recommendation of Steven Spielberg, he got a call from Spielberg, and shortly after that Spielberg introduced him to George Lucas, and the two of them hired him to write RAIDERS OF THE LOST ARK. After he’d delivered that screenplay to Lucas, Lucas hired him to rewrite the screenplay for STAR WARS, EPISODE V: THE EMPIRE STRIKES BACK, the first draft having been written by veteran writer Leigh Brackett, who sadly had just recently died. So Kasdan enjoyed seeing his writing work being produced in very short order, and was able to land his first writing-directing job on his neo-noir film BODY HEAT (1981), starring William Hurt and Kathleen Turner. Meanwhile, THE BODYGUARD, which had been written in 1975 and rejected 67 times before being purchased by Warner Brothers back in 1977, was languishing in “development hell,” rewritten multiple times, was read by Costner when he was making Kasdan’s 1985 Western SILVERADO, and Costner took a liking to it, wanting to produce it. It took several more years, but it wasn’t finally produced until 1992, and this was the result.
@@Remington61189 Kasdan wrote the screenplay with McQueen in mind for the role of Frank, but since it never was greenlit as a production at any time before McQueen died in 1980, McQueen was never officially attached. I’m not even certain if he was ever sent a copy of the script to read.
I love stories like these from a Hollywood I grew up with and wanted to be part of. Always hoped my day would come if I worked hard for it. Never did, but its more of the idea that these sort of things you talked about don't happen as much anymore. More people are interested in screenplays attached to big name money making franchises. This version of I Will Always Love You will always make me cry. Dolly Parton wrote this song in 1974, but Whitney made this song an international success and The Bodyguard is the best selling soundtrack of all time (according to Song Facts, anyway). RIP Whitney
I LOVE Whitney, and couldn't name 5 Dolly songs if my life depended on it, but it's Dollys version that gets me emotional cuz you can hear the sadness in hers. Whitney's is better in every way but that imho. But BOTH are phenomenal, an absolute rarity in originals/covers.

The reason Frank fires at the unknown assailant in the woods with his eyes closed is so the bright muzzle flash from his gun doesn't ruin his night vision. He's aiming by the sound of the person running through the woods. If he had his eyes open when he shot, the muzzle flash would temporarily blind him, making it difficult to continue the pursuit.
Wrong, tactical defensive training reminds you to always have training shooting with both eyes because in a dark fire fight, you will have to secure a "night eye" learned from pirates using an eye patch to lure the ones they were fighting under the deck to swop out the eye patch to have better vision in the dark. You're supposed to completely close one eye and heavily squint with the other, for 3-5 shots, opening your squint consecutively then give pause then switch eyes to continue shooting. In his case he didn't need to return fire for long and used his night eye, or unblinded eye, to continue pursuit

Whitney Houston's funeral was on CNN. She sold millions of singles of... The Star spangled banner! She was a mega talent and this was her first major actng role. It was a real home run all the way around. She was very solid acting and her singing was peerless. Glad to see this one rediscovered. It was one of the biggest movies that year and the soundtrack was Everywhere

A wonderful musical, But a barely average actress. Those that think she is a good actress are simply wanting her to be because they love her so much. The love her fans have for her has skewed their ability to to admit her mediocre acying abilities.

I put her in Barber's stride sand as having 2 of the greatest female voices ever. I did not have the experience of seeing the movie sparkle so I certainly can't comment on it I was referring to this specific movie the bodyguard which being a guy I may not have been as open minded. But I did find the acting mediocre at best and possibly part of that could have been the script itself. Never said nor did I ever mean that she was a terrible actress my feeling was she was always approximately average. Despite the how it happened I do believe The world has lost a huge talent which always makes me say to myself what could they have done if they had not passed away sort of like when we lost John Lennon from The Beatles I had the same flat great performer but what more could he have done
This movie was actually HUGE at the time of its release. The song was everywhere you went for almost a full year. I remember my dad got a speeding ticket on the way to the theater with the whole family lol. I guess he was in a hurry to see it.

She sang the Star Spangled Banner at the Superbowl around that time and still to this day it's one of the greatest renditions ever. She was basically the 2nd biggest pop artist in the world around then, 2nd only to Michael Jackson.
I remember seeing this movie in the theater as a kid with my friends. We all loved it and immediately bought the soundtrack. I also remember when I found out Whitney had died. She was an astoundingly talented person and it's just heartbreaking that she's gone.

I was in 7th grade (1985), and living on Maui with my family, when Whitney Houston hit the radio airwaves. Back then, radio was still big, and the weekend was marked with music, in Casey Kasem's Top 100! Good times & great memories. The 80's was a magical time to grow up! Whitney's version of the Star Spangled Banner, from the 1991 Super Bowl, still gives me chills & makes me tear up, and I've seen it at least 50 times. And I can honestly say, I still haven't heard anyone else sing it better than she did. Whitney, was an undeniable vocal talent, but she was also a talented actor. It's so sad, she couldn't overcome her pains & troubles. So grateful she shared her amazing talents, in the short time she was with us. RIP Whitney.♥️ On an interesting & much lighter note, Whitney's mother is also a talented singer. Cissy Houston, sang back-up vocals for artists such as, Elvis Presley, and Aretha Franklin, among others. And Whitney's cousin, is Dionne Warwick. Whitney had one of the greatest voices of all time and she was a surprisingly phenomenal actress in my mind. They had fantastic chemistry. I may be wrong, but I feel like I heard they had a bit of a real life romance after they made this together. Didn’t last obviously. She was gone way too soon.
This movie was definitely not "under the radar", it was a big hit (it was #2 in the worldwide box office that year, making over 400 million worldwide, that's a big number for the early 90s. Only Aladdin made more). The soundtrack was #1 on charts all over the world as well, it won a bunch of grammys and is still one of the best selling albums of all time.
Pretty sure that Cassie meant that this 30 year old film is under the radar today, which it is. A whole new generation out there may be unaware of it and she may be perfectly correct in that assessment.

Yes, you are so correct. Costner paid tribute to McQueen by adopting McQueen 's sense of clothing fashion & Steve's hairstyle. It was very classy of Costner to pay homage to McQueen in that way.
@@clevelandcbi Personally, I have not watched enough (the first two episodes) to form any opinion. However, I have heard great things about it from friends & it's supposed to be one of cable's top series. Season 5 started last month so it's must be pretty successful. Especially considering 2 prequels have already been developed based on Yellowstone & will debut very soon. I just haven't found time to binge watch Yellowstone's first 4 seasons already aired. Hope this helps.

1st date with my now wife was to this movie. We named our daughter Marin after it. They actually made this into a musical, and it was very well done. Surprised my mice with the musical on our 20th anniversary a few years ago. Loved your reactions to the movie.

Whitney Houston recorded it and it was an international hit. Dolly joked that with her success with the song, she went to the bank and when Whitney recorded it, Dolly said, "I bought the bank".
One of Whitney's movies that you should watch, especially for Christmas time, is "The Preacher's Wife" with Denzel Washington. It's a remake of an old 1940's movie called "The Bishop's Wife", but it's a great heartfelt Christmas story and one of her last great performances before her demise.
Definitely not an under the radar cult classic……This movie was a MASSIVE hit in 1992 and the soundtrack is still, to this day, one of the top selling albums period of all time.
I just know this. Having been around Secret Service agents in my life....they are indeed the best of the best when it comes to security. Nothing is passed over. I wore out my cassette tape of this Soundtrack. It was so good. Whitney was a legend and so talented. Unfortunately, she struggled with addiction and had her own demons as so many in Hollywood have.

Fun fact: Gary kemp who played si was one of the guitarists for 80’s band spandau ballet along with his brother Martin who also became an actor. Both Gary & Martin kemp played the kray twins in a movie about their lives a few years before Gary did the bodyguard.
I am currently a Personal Protection Specialist (Executive Protection/“bodyguard”) for a very popular singer and while this movie isn’t the most accurate, I enjoyed it a lot. Thanks for doing this reaction video. Most people in this field cringe when the term “bodyguard” is used, but it’s the quickest way to convey our occupation to those who don’t know the job.
As a former Apprehension Agent, I 1000% understand the cringe part. For us it was hearing "bounty hunter," especially when that jackass on TV had his show. For the record, NOBODY in the industry dresses like Guns N Roses when the idea is to BLEND in and not alert people you're coming. 🤣🤣🤣
I owned and operated SET Security, Inc, in L.A. which in addition to providing security officers for film locations, I also personally protected a couple of dozen celeb clients while in plain clothes, the plainer the better. One day Oprah visited a movie set we were working on. She pulled up in a stretch limo and two suits with sunglasses jumped out looking like the Secret Service. I turned to my security supervisor and said "Ok, so you want to get to Oprah. Who do you take out first?".
Movies like The Bodyguard & Pretty Woman were regular rewatches in our house growing up. Even both soundtracks. We had them on cassette and my mom would play them in the car.
This movie brings so much, yeah its a bit cheesy at times but the chemistry was good (although I wish the characters had more backstory). Frank's dad was Ralph Waite, the patriarch of the 70s series "The Waltons" which was a fantastic story of a turn of the century mountain family. Thing that gets me is how some of this storyline followed Whitney's tragic life. She had such turmoil.
This movie was a Big hit when it came out. It ran in theatres for a long time because it was used as a date night movie. The women loved the music/romance and the boys liked the action. The soundtrack gave the movie Epic status and the single was everywhere around Christmas time. Funny thing is this is the first time I have seen more then the trailer/MTV clip of the movie.
Kevin Costner i believe said he wouldn't do this movie without Whitney and production was held off until she was ready or something like that. Amazing friendship these two had. There is a video on YT where its all about the making of this movie and how Kevin had a lot of say in how this movie was made right down to the producer, certainly worth watching.

I don't know if it's already been mentioned, but the song 'I Will Always Love You' was originally written and sung by Dolly Parton, and when Parton first heard Houston's cover of her song (something Kevin Costner personally asked Parton's permission for), she was driving and said the song was so amazing and beautiful that she couldn't believe those were her words, and she nearly wrecked her car because she was so caught up in Whitney's voice.

This soundtrack was huge. Remember listening to it the first time I'd ever been on an airplane and yelling over the headphones at my parents across the aisle because I forgot to take them off. Lol. But that scene at end on the tarmac was pretty for epic for movie romances. I like that it was her that got off the plane and ran to him. I think the scene is better that way. Gotta love how Cassie reacts to a climactic kissing scene like it's the winning touchdown of the Super Bowl. 💖
I always saw the ending as Frank moving on to his next assignment. On the plane scene at the end, Rachel is a little annoyed that Frank gave her a new bodyguard who was an older man. Towards the end, If you noticed, the praying priest was holding a little transponder cross in his hand that he could press to signal for Frank. Therefore, I think the priest was his new assignment.
When she passed I was so heartbroken and even till this day I get emotional cuz I miss her so much! RIP Whitney Houston. We all still love you very much, See you in heaven one day!!
Whitney was quite a good actress in her own way. She was also in “Waiting to Exhale” with Angela Bassett & “The Preacher’s Wife” with Denzel Washington. Could mix both dramatic and comedic acting pretty well.
I love that Frank never told Rachel that it was Nicki that put the hit out on her, why pour salt in an open wound, she was going through enough pain she just lost her sister, can you imagine finding out that she hated you and wanted you dead? I also wanted Rachel and Frank to end up together but they would never see each other and if one of them was to quit their job for the other they wouldn't be happy, they both have completely different lives, just like in Roman Holiday
I remember I watched this one day as a teenager and someone who hated romantic movies. I was not expecting the mystery and action and suspense and it became one of my favourites.

Child of the 80s. I still haven't gotten over my boyhood crushes on Whitney Houston or Kylie Minogue ;). Think I even saw this in the theatre, haven't seen it in 30 years and still remember the plot it left such an impression.
Before the drugs Whitney Houston was the most incredible artist. It was heart wrenching to watch what happened to her. Truly gone before her time, but the tragedy began before her untimely passing. Until she met rapper Bobby Brown she had never gone to nightclubs, being exposed to drugs, had anything to do with getting excessively drunk. She was completely unprepared for the rapper lifestyle. Essentially, Bobby Brown killed her.

I remember watching this as a kid when it came on TV. I liked it so much that I had recorded it on my VCR (took up 2 tapes) and I'd always watch it when I was "sick" at home from school. It's one of those movies I watch every few years because it just aged so well (minus the lack of cellphones). I love the character development and the conflict. It feels like every time something is resolved there's some new dilemma that puts a strain on everyone's relationship. And let's all just appreciate how amazing Frank was at knocking Fletcher out of the boat right before it blew up and how insanely tense that night time cabin scene was and how awesome the shootout was. Love this movie. And as everyone else has already mentioned...Kevin Costner and Whitney Houston kept a friendship going long after this movie. He's the one who wanted her cast in the role and later claims that other actors could have played his part, but nobody else could have played her role. I like Kevin Costner, but I think I have to agree. Whitney was terrific in this even if she was a bit bratty at times.

She had joined the popular country music television show 'The Porter Wagoner Show' in 1967, a relative unknown alongside Porter, a powerhouse in the industry at the time. During her time on the show, her career took off like a rocket, and the time came when she wanted to leave the show and strike out on her own, but Porter did not want her to go. She began trying to get out of her contract in 1972, and though the two were friends, she fought with him on a business level to leave. Finally, in 1973, she solved her problem in typical Dolly fashion, by writing a song. _This_ song! When she played it for Porter in his office, he cried, and finally relented, letting her go. With only one exception: He wanted to produce it, saying it was the best thing she had ever written. She released the song in 1974, and it quickly became a popular love song to many. But if you read the lyrics with this story in mind, you can also see how it applied to their situation, of dissolving a business partnership. So Dolly left The Porter Wagoner show in 1974, her career never faltered, and she was in fact propelled into international mega stardom. Porter's star, however, ultimately waned. I always love hearing people’s different ideas about the status of their relationship at the end. Some believe they stayed together and other’s that they separated, loving each other but not together. For my part, I’m in the second group. The song tells it for me, I will always love you but I’m (we’re) not what you (each other) need.
You ever see Whitney Houston singing the National Anthem at the Super Bowl? I still remember seeing that live when it aired. You can look it up on RU-vid. Yes, wow, Whitney Houston had 1 heck of an awesome voice and she also was gorgeous too. You ever watch the movie No Way Out or Revenge? Those are reall good thrillers with Kevin Costner. The Untouchables is another really good Kevin Costner movie. I think he was also a great Wyatt Earp in the movie of the same name. Waterworld is an underrated action movie with him in it. That movie did not do that well when it came out. It was actually a financial flop since so much money was invested into it. But, it is actually pretty good & fun too. I thought he was a really good Pa Kent in the DCEU movies.
Good movie. Always enjoyed it each time I’ve watched it. Sad to know that Whitney Houston’s life took a turn shortly after this movie with addiction and a bad marriage with Bobby Brown. She was an amazing singer and performer. I always marveled how effortless she sang while flashing her gorgeous smile. If you’re ever feeling patriotic, watch her sing the National Anthem before Super Bowl 25 in Tampa, 1991. Her version is the best ever.

Yep, and even some of us guys couldn't hold back the tears when Rachel says WAIT, and runs off the plain and into Farmers arms! Every time I hear that Whitney Houston song, it makes me tear up!
