The Boogeyman - Phelous 

That shard of mirror just got wet it's completely useless now

I just learned that Ulli Lommel died earlier this week. RIP, Mr. Lommel. Guess it's time for a Boogeyman review rewatch marathon.

The mirror thing is actually a really old southern superstition, namely that mirrors can capture the souls of people who die reflected in them or even just in the same house. This is why it's not uncommon for some older folks to cover mirrors with cloths after someone in their families died.

I love this movie, sure, it's stupid and cheesy, but it's a good example of very early 80s Halloween ripoffs. Also, "boogeymen" being able to haunt the mirror sorta makes sense, because Uli is German, aka European and it's an old belief from pre-Christian Europe (mainly pagan Slavic and Germanic people) that mirrors can trap souls (and sometimes evil spirits). This is why people use to cover mirrors when a person dies, so his soul won't end up being trapped in mirror. Having said that, it also sorta makes sense why water "kills" the boogeymen, because people use to believe water is kinda crossroad between world of living and demonic. This is why in lot of old European stories (especially Slavic) people encounter vampires and demons in watermills, on crossroads, etc because it was believed in general that evil entities live near water and crossroads and use it to walk between two worlds (world of living and world of demonic).

*Fun Fact*: Lacey and Willie are played by Nicholas and Suzanne Love. Who are real life brother and sister. *Side note*: Suzanne Love of course was married to Ulli Lommel so the only reason Nicholas is playing Willie is because he is her brother.therefore he was a cheap hire for Ulli because this was Nicholas Love's first ever movie. *Obscure Reference*: Nicholas Love played Joe Ward in Fatal Games. A slasher movie set during the Olympics (that Brad aka The Cinema Snob has reviewed) and Nicholas Love was also Malcolm Sloan in Twin Peaks.

Seeing that kid pop up by the window and say boogeyman really makes me want to sign up for a forum account on SA

Yes, finally! The Lommel Boogeyman trilogy - basically my three favourite entries of Phelous and the Movies to date. I love these reviews, I really do! BOOGEYMAN!! (*gets crushed by window*)

8:36 - the sound effects say the falling window crushed the kid's neck, but the speed the window fell at and the kid laying down suggest that he passed away peacefully right then and there, and the window was just a coincidence.

Call it... SHARDS OF AGONY. Or maybe DARK REFLECTION. Or hell, just call it THE MIRROR. Really, anything but The Boogeyman.

At 2:10 I seriously thought my phone had frozen.

I'm casting this to my TV and every time that bass music sting played the entire house would shake.

The ‘free Willy’ part at the beginning honestly made me chuckle.

Brad cameos are never pointless

Mirrors are believed to trap souls, that's how it makes sense for the mother's boyfriend to haunt it.

Husband: "let's get rid of these ghosts once and for all." [Calls the ghostbusters]

Actually in a lot of mythologies, mirrors can trap spirits. So dieing in front of a mirror trapped his ghost in it. His angry murdery ghost.

I haven't laughed this much at a narmy death scene since the propeller guy from Titanic.

Watching your reviews is way more entertaining than watching the actual movie.

It's nice to find another RU-vid comments section that is mostly positive comments. Don't think I've seen many at all across all of your re-uploads (at least as far as the horror movies are concerned). Good review again, Phelous. The kid getting crushed by the window had me chuckling too.

Water burning the mirror makes sense if you know in old legends water purifies spiritual things and ghost can't cross it like in the Headless Horseman.

THis was entertaining, and somehow I confused the new and old boogeymen, I was waiting for the mirror thing in the 2007 one. The kid being killed by the window was so badly done it was hilarious.

How did they clean this mirror all this years if water burns it?

This film is actually much better than it's ever been given credit for, even by it's own director. Just don't watch the sequels.
