This just made me realise that The Mandalorian episode in which Din and that young wannabe bounty hunter run into tuskens and Din pays for passage with the binoculars... this is might be why they started asking for pay in the first place.
The comparisons to native cultures was so well done and carefully crafted. With Temura Morrison being Māori, I can tell this was done really well and as accurately as possible despite Tuskens being a made up culture/Species I loved it
this episode was S-tier content. The score, the cinematography, the story, acting and ofc sound design all perfection. Really shows how good smth can be if the right people work on it
Temuera is skilled in the use of the taiaha which is a traditional Staff like weapon of the Maori, used primarily today in performing arts but has a ranking system depending on your skill level much like the colored belts in Martial arts. The significance of the Gecko in the story line may refer to an ancestress of Temuera named Parekura who was befriended by a Gecko and became a guardian spirit of his Maternal tribe, which we refer to as a "Kaitiaki'. In carvings of this tribe a gecko is often represented.
The female Tuskan/Tribe leader's wife - actress who plays her deserves so much credit. Physically such an awesome presence in this episode with the train fight.
She's played by Joanna Bennett, who is a prolific stunt woman in her own right. E.g. she was the stunt double for Brie Larson in the Marvel movies and Gal Gadot in the DC movies.
That wookie is Black Krrsantan from the comics which and now he's canon. He's a wookie bounty hunter who has worked with Jabba in the past and with various other Hutts.
@@PeverellTheThird They are, but they're the 'lowest level' canon to the extent that Filoni and Disney have 0 problems rewriting things from the comics when they bring them to the screen in cartoons or live action. Personally I don't worry too much about 'canon'. Like real history, there are contradictory stories told. It's always told from someone's POV.
So much lore, character development, great soundtrack, Hutts, black Krrsantan, Tusken Raiders culture, Pykes... They are taking their time with Boba Fett and I'm totally invested now Great reaction 👍🏾
The mayor absolutely sent those assassins and is speaking out of both sides of his face. He thinks Boba is “only” a bounty hunter trying to upgrade to a boss…boy oh boy is he in for a rude awakening 😏, because they are showing us that Boba is WAY more than “just” a bounty hunter. I thought this was a great episode. The look on Boba’s face when he saw the lizard 💀😆…I think it’s awesome that we get to explore the Tuskans (raiding is what they do, not who they are) so before we knew them as Tuskan Raiders, but they are Tuskans. 👍🏻
Watching Boba's face and energy as he fights the Nikto is VERY reminiscent of the postures and gestures of the haka, which I am certain is deliberate on Temuera Morrison's part, but it fills me with joy to see it.
I just love how much Jenny loves Dances with Wolves and makes the comparisons I did as well witch the bantha's and buffalo's! Keep it up guys, you two are always awesome with the commentary!
Yep that is Tosche Station and that was Camie and Fixer, Luke's friends before he joined Kenobi for that trip to Alderaan and being part of the Rebellion
That is Tosche Station. If you saw the cut scenes from A New Hope, the male and female, Camie and Fixer, are Lukes friends he tries to tell them about the starship fight he saw in the sky.
This episode was magic 🥰Black Krrsantan ,the Pykes the incredible Tuskens and much more 😍😍best reaction so far today ..you really nailed it 😍 Big compliments 🥳🥳💪🏻💪🏻
Loved your comments-I disliked Avatar because it was too "Dances with Wolves", and lacked originality. Would have been easy to criticize this episode for the same reason, but this episode was done very differently and tastefully, as you said. I think T. Morrison bringing his Maori culture to his character adds to how amazing this episode is. Thank you for the reaction!
I'll try to interpret Boba's vision quest: Tattooine used to be a lush planet with Oceans and trees like earth so they paired that with Boba's Ocean home Kamino, the waves and the rain we see. The eyes in the tree are Tuskins who came before, they're in the tree because it's what binds them. Their clubs link all Tuskins like branchs of a tree. Boba becomes part of the tribe by getting his own branch. The scenes with the sarlac are his death and then rebirth
Awesome reaction and analysis guys! Loved the parallels you guys drew throughout the episode. I loved this episode and thought the alliance between Boba and the Tusken Raiders was so cool! It really allowed us to learn more about these characters. I was confused about the Mayor as well by the way, not sure who hired the assasins at this point. Are we being deceived by the Mayor or is it really someone else who sent the assassins? Time will tell! Overall great episode, loved seeing the Pykes, Hutts and that Wookie! Looking forward to next week ;)
BTW, did you notice that Madam Garsa Fwip called him "Mister Fett" in this episode, instead of "Lord Fett" like she did in the first episode? She obviously doesn't think he'll still be in-charge long.
Also, you guys are right: Morrison is PERFECT! Like, his face and his movements and expressions. Dude is just so good. And him being of Maori descent protecting the lands of the people whose lands have been threatened and overtaken? 1000% 🤗
I can’t wait til Boba has been backed into a corner then he hits a button on his armor and a whole army of Tuskens rise up from the sands to fight alongside him
The right of passage paid homage to a live cultures from the Native Americans and the Maui(Temura Morrison is) Also the comparison is similar to hell Jedi Padawan‘s complete their training when they forge their first light saber, the Tuskans craft their Gaffi Sticks as a right of passage as well as the Mandalorians forge their armor as a right of passage as well.
This episode was deeply rooted in Native American history. Good point regarding the killing of the bantha(s) and what that symbolizes, ie.; the implication of U.S. history extermination of the bison, but also gives a taste of what is to come for the possible future of the Tusken people (...as seen in a later episode) hinting at something akin to ethnic cleansing of the frontier by genocidal intruders. Although the episode does draw heavily on past serial shows like classic westerns, such as Rawhide, it tweaks the perspective to shed light on the "opposite" side which is of the Indigenous people, aka the Tuskens. By doing so it humanizes, for the lack of a better term, the Tuskens by giving the sense of having a long standing existance, traditions, and spirituality. In illustrating this beautifully in this episode it draws Boba deep into a rich culture by not just training him in their martial art but also by having him partake in the building of his gaffi stick. Anyone who has made a tool, whether for nessecity or sport, this furthers the bond between the person and their creation. Boba would have an very personal, intimate connection with his weapon as he build it and has put himself in it and likewise.
Love Your reaction🙋🏾♀️🙋🏾♀️ A lot of reactors get the Native American thing but I love how exciting it was to you guys, I've learned it's always different that way when a person has studied something deeply. I hope that Boba is able to shift the balance of power in a way where Tuskens have a seat at the table now (like a silent investor) that will also give a leg up to his Tribe among Tuskens overall. I could type about this episode for hours so I'll make my last point, Dune was brought up a lot (and rightfully so, every SW fan knows what this planet represents). Some who don't know the story well may not understand that our view of T.R.'s has been through others POV just like House Harkkenan from Dune. They viewed the Freeman as a lower form of life, only Paul's father understood the wealth of knowledge and power those people held. Watch Dune folks it's a lot better (in my opinion) than the Original movie, no hate to the original they worked with the effects of the time. Love You Star Wars Fans 💜💜💜💜 See you next week!,👩🏾💻👩🏾💻
Lots of parallels have been made to Native American Tribes while not mentioning Temuera Morrison's own Maori heritage and ancestry as inspiration for the attitude of Boba, especially when recognising Native rights of the Tuscans, as Maori themselves have been recipients of colonisation in more recent Human history. A slight disservice. Tems knowledge of the Maori Taiaha weapon influenced his fight in the Mandalorian and is very evident in the movements in this episode.
The use of a lizard in conjunction with spice as a means of inducing a vision quest is not odd at all. IRL there are frogs / toads that secrete bodily fluids that when consumed will trigger a hallucinogenic trip. (Google toad licking.)
Possibly end up rescuing her in a later episode, hopefully. She was last seen with Bib, so she is most likely on Tatooine. Maybe if they introduce live action Omega.
Moochi was obtained 25 years prior to this episode’s timeline. We didn’t seem him in the original trilogy (unless moochi WAS the original rancor, but most people say it’s not). So it wouldn’t make sense for them to show up. Like where was moochi all this time only for bib fortuna to just use him 25 years after getting him
@@crankfastle8138 she was last seen with Bib but that was the bad batch. She’s likely an adult now: cause around 25 years has passed between this show and the bad batch
Young boba Remember how the door Opened for luke in return of the jedi The rock luke through to kill the rangkor is still there We see the huts in present day The mayor is right in saying when your a bounty hunter he only has to worry about himself now that boba is crime lord there are so many other people I would rather boba be feared than respected because people are looking at him as if he is weak. When the twins away they are carried like how fennec told him he should have been carried in the first episode Black krrsantan is more deadly than boba And has major run ins with Vader and obi wan They told boba to sleep lightly on some ol gangster shit The flashback is during the time of the return of the Jedi We see the tuskin is training boba We see toshi station the place where luke wanted to go in new hope. This is where he hung out as a teenager back in and before episode 4 This episode humanized boba a lot
@@kennykenny275 nope...a taiaha isn't curved but spear like...a Fijian totokia is wooden war club that looks exactly like a Gaffi stick with it's pointed end...it's just that since temeura is Maori he incorperated the Maori taiaha movements to the weapon...but the Gaffi stick itself is a Fijian war club
Great commentary and observations in this video as always…. I think. And I know y’all are family and love each other, but Jenny, for the love of Pete, PLEASE LET MIKE FINISH HIS THOUGHTS WITHOUT INTERRUPTING HIM (it’s his channel, after all….). I usually live what both of you have to add to the convo and it’s clear that you’re both excited, but it’s so hard to enjoy both of your insights when you keep stepping on each other.
Luke killed the Rancor and I think it was the one from Bad Batch. I know the 'original' rancor had another name, but pretty sure that was in legends. Disney has been assassinating Luke's character for years, why wouldn't they make kids love the rancor he kills? Lol
