I feel like the violence is exaggerated because it's animated in a very childish way, we're so used to violence in this show that the only way to shock the audience at this point is go somewhere else with it

@Table Salt nope not true, Noir was shown to have imaginary cartoon friends in the original comic. And, again, 2D animation is insanely expensive, doing that scene in live action would’ve been a no brainer in terms of budget (especially as younger versions of the whole team had been cast for Mallory’s flashback which dovetails directly into Noir’s one)

@Table Salt animation is expensive 2d or 3d someone or people had to animate every frame that takes a lot of time and money they clearly changed his character from the comics lol he was literally just a clone of homelander instead they made him his own character it was a unique way of telling a backstory instead of the same shit

I had to read it a couple times to make sure it really said *last* summer. I wonder if they film in blocks when they have time then slow trickle the content on a schedule. Or maybe editing takes a lot longer than we think lol

Yes animation can be just as expensive but they were also able to save money by crediting the actors in those scenes as voice actors. Add that with the set production, makeup, special effects, etc. The animation was really well done and creative, I just thought those scenes would have been more impactful with live action performances. - Lia

@@lia_fiore Fair enough. Though in the case of Giancarlo Esposito, I'm not sure whether it cost more to have him as a VA, or swap him out entirely for a younger actor like they did previously. Plus, if actors are paid per credited episode, several of them were already present this episode as "full" actors anyway. Additionally, they had already put together everything for the '80s flashback to that exact same moment - so they could have shot the extra footage for Black Noir's POV when they were filming Mallory's flashback. In any case, it's fine if you think it would have been stronger and more substantial if shot conventionally like the previous flashback to that moment from Mallory's perspective. However, I still disagree with the idea that the animation wasn't what was ideally intended, but specifically used as a compromise to save money. I think it's much more likely that it was entirely within their means to do the scene either way, and the animation was a deliberate choice as an art direction that would have been done regardless of how much money there was to work with.

The show creator Eric Kripke said "To us as the writers, we might be running contrary to what the viewers want, but the writers always feel like it’s weird to us. We felt like, OK, we have to have the kiss so we can have the characters try it and then decide that it’s still weird to them. So we had to do it, but it felt weird to the writers, too. Like when we have them kiss, to me, that’s like two siblings kissing or it’s like a gray area, I guess."
