Scumbag they’ve got supes over there too that big dude from the comic did fairly well against storm front so I reckon he’d do alright against home lander
If captain america was alive in this very same timeline with homelander, no one will like him on the internet, people always pretend they know everything the best like a lawyer. And captain america will became the person they despise the most.
You loathe him so much throughout the show, yet there's just a weird feeling of fascination you get at the same time coming from all that oozing charisma.
It’s like those MAGA dipshits who clap every time their cult leader says radical Islamic terror. They love that shit, because it makes them feel like politicians are speaking their language.
Such a small thing...But i love how Homelanders cape is the American Flag. Almost as if to say "He's carrying the weight of the country on his shoulders."
This is one of my favourite scenes. I'd say that this is one of the scariest moments because of his ability to manipulate the masses. His ability to justify his actions to so many.
That speech gave me the absolute chills. Homelander is such a charismatic character. And Anthony Starr was the guy for this role, there's no denying that. Awesome performance!
Kalen Williams technically you can think of the believe expo as being Vought’s cult. It basically makes up most of the Christians that think that Homelander is Christ and he has the power to judge them all.
Kanishk Bajaj Nope. The breaking bad episode is a reference to a sonnet by Percy Bysshe Shelley that was influenced by Ramesses II, same as the DC character Adrian Alexander Veidt who was both a superhero and the antagonist of the graphic novel Watchmen. His actions can be seen as heroic or villainous but the end result is global peace. The character of Thanos, who was modeled after Darkseid, has a similar motivation to his in the MCU film Infinity War.
This keeps showing off how subtly terrifying Homelander is. He obviously doesn't believe all the Jesus crap, and knows it's just a tool for his public image. But he is super charistmatic, he can sway a crowd, and he seems to have actually dedicated himself to the lie so much that he memorizes Bible passages.
The marketing for this show totally missed flight. I was under the impression it was a black comedy from the perspective of super heroes and Karl Urban's character was the shady villain
@@Tate525 what I was trying to get at is that bad people will use all sorts of self-righteous justifications for heinous actions both religious and non-religious. What the non-religious usually end up doing is filling the "god shaped hole" with a political ideology and end up becoming a cult and worshipping their cult leader.
@@josecruz3235 Look at it this way, fascism is a perversion of nationalism where anything is acceptable in service to the state. America also has a very dominant christian culture, so basically if America goes fascist it will be under the guise of nationalism and religious fervor.
It’s like this one is the good twin and when he’s not in front of a crowd the bad twin switches places with him. He looks really off when he’s not giving a speech, like a guy in makeup and costume, but here when he’s really playing the crowd he looks perfect. It’s terrifying.
@@xrstevenson He means, In the comics; Homelander is killed rigth after taking power of the whitehouse, and the country He wants the show to have homelander stay in power for a while
Obvious metaphors aside. I do love me a well performed diatribe with good rhetoric, so I have my favorite scenes in films or shows. And Antony Starr just nailed it with his gestures and voice tonality changes. He owns the evil superman character like no one before.
@@jetman1895 I don't think he does, to be honest. The subtle ominous theme in the background in this scene works wonders, but what really sells it is how subtle and quiet it is. The focus is on Homelander's voice, letting you soak them in and be uncomfortable solely because of them. Same goes for later scenes, what sells them isn't the music but Homelander's actions- it's *him* that makes you uncomfortable and afraid, not the music. And I wouldn't have it any other way
@@LouSassol69er normally it does, it creates an atmosphere, it helps dictates the pace, great films like 98% of the time have great original music. Lmao
Being showered in praise... is exactly what he loves, right? While a lot of people have fear of talking in public, it's biggest thrill of his life, cause he can be ADORED LIKE A GOD! I think if most people saw presentation as a way to make people go crazy for you like this they would love being in a stadium.
Spoiler Alert I wonder if those atrocities such as planting compound-v around the world or fucking Billy’s wife was truly Homelander at all since it was Black Noir in the comics
There's two different things at play here. Homelander's speech, saying he believes in God, when he believes he himself is god. While the people just believe what he says because he uses a different title.
"Let's not mince words here; I fucked up. I got a little trigger happy with my laser eyes and I accidentally destroyed the control panel of the plane I was supposed to save, dooming all the passengers. Oopsie! Yeah, I suppose I could have flown a few of them to the ground before the plane crashed, but what am I, a fucking taxi?? Amiright?? Amiright??" Dead silence from the audience.... File this under "should have seen this coming".....
For the record, if I was watching just this clip without knowing Homelander's other actions in the show, I would absolutely idolize this man and believe him to be divinely chosen. What he's saying is so amazing. When influenced by weak Christians such as Pope Francis, Antje Jackelen, Raphael Warnock, etc., it's quite amazing to hear such patriotic and nationalistic rhetoric from an American. I would actually put him on the same "divinely-chosen" level as I would with Viktor Orban, the Kaiser, Emperor Constantine, Pope Urban II and many others. An iron fist with proud rhetoric is so hypnotizing. But again, it's too bad I know his actual personality in the show.
Lol shows, even more, why right are ignorant. You would idolize him otherwise like you idolize all those hatemongers politicians who are doing exactly what he is doing, fueling hate for gains.
@@sauronishere8040 Except those men did great things. Homelander did terrible things. Those men love their country. Homelander couldn't care less about his. Those men deeply cared for their people. Homelander regularly abuses his.
The thumbnail looks like he’s giving a Ted talk but at the same time I would be surprised if for season 4 homelander actually gives a Ted talk on how he became a superhero
In Man of Steel and BvS they used Jesus imagery on Superman. Showing that he’s the savior of our world. Homelander on the other hand is the exact opposite of Superman. So if you think about it Superman is a symbol of Jesus and Homelander is a symbol of demons or even the devil.
They also did the scene when Superman flies down to put down a civilian in the crowd and they reach out to touch him. In this case, Homelander does it intentionally and the difference between the shots is pretty astonishing. I didn't even realize they snuck that in until I rewatched this scene.
In A-LOT of ways,I feel like,if the joker, from the 2019 film,JOKER gave a speech after he drew that iconic bloody smile,on his face,he would give a speech,SIMILAR,to THIS one.
@@johnivantaro6684 My dude, especially at this point Compound V was secret. So everyone believed superheroes just got their powers by fate, nature, or god depending on their beliefs. Homelander being seen like Jesus for being given the powers he has and having such a central role protecting America makes sense. Its not hypocritical, its entirely consistent with their beliefs lol
@@EmanuelNadera Maybe more than you think. People who are humble aren't prone to getting interviews set up on the news because they aren't attention seekers.
"You have heard that it was said, 'Love your neighbor and hate your enemy.' But I tell you, love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you," Matthew 43-44 "Whatever nerd" Homelander season 1:5
I really hope in season 3 we see Homelander just snap and go full supervillain. Really well written character. Didn't know much about the comics when I started watching this but I knew the premise and just had a feeling Homelander would be the worst of the lot. so stoked for S3
I'll be super impressed if they make it so both Butcher and Homelander are somewhat equally bad with Hughie being the fundamentally good person or hero of the story stuck in the middle. And I think it might actually happen now that Homelander has a son of his own to care about and help him discover some of what it means to be human and at the same time Butcher is only gonna get more out of control now that he finds out the last decade of his life was built on a lie and that his life cheated on him voluntarily then left him.
