It’s not what the author meant. He meant that he didn’t like that superhero comics were the only thing being read by most people in the us.he wished more genres in comics got as much love as super hero ones do
The boys tv show is a parody on superheroes and big coporate companies and making comentary on them, and the comics do that to but their more focused on making superheroes one note villains for them to kill, the show is more focused and instead of making every supe irredeemable, they make them flawed people, not monsters but people.

Given the fact the creator of the comics deeply hates super heros and especially captain america. It doesn't surprise me that they changed him to something better.

I heard some of his own war comics are a bit disrespectful or at least inaccurate. Like one about the Spanish civil war making it look like the Republican side did not want the foreign volunteers and wanted them gone which if I remember correctly in real life was quite the opposite. Hell I think some of those foreign volunteers are still respected in some circles in Spain today.
The boys comics in general are just edgy for the sake of it, and there are so many f'd up things that happens, I'm glad that the show changes many things

So soldier boy in comics is getting piped by homelander but in the show is homelander's daddy Stromfront in comics is homelanders daddy, but in the show gets piped by homelander. Aint that a twist.
The Boys comic is written by a man who hates the ideal superman/superhero. So instead of writing something that has some effort of being well thought out, and good. He writes something to be edgy for the sake of it.

@Thatoneblackguyy23 Invincible is S tier as was Boys S01 and S02. Boys was great due to shock value but the shock wore off, it's fallen off a bit but still good.
More apt comparison would be someone showing up to an open mic and saying "I hate all of you and I'm glad I'm wasting your time", which is how Ennis feels about superhero fans.

Soldier boy in the comics just makes me sad, it’s extremely pitiful not even funny, especially sleeping with homelander just to get into the 7(the team he always wanted to be on) is wild to me. He doesn’t even enjoy the sex he’s just sad, Womp to the fucking womp

i reading the comic and I think the plot in general is better in the comics, not the characters. I think the perfect is the characters show and comic plot (I mean plot, talking about the arcs and view of events that happens in the comic) but not all arcs, because some arcs are just bad, like soldier boy and stormfront
In the comics that is the 3rd version of soldier boy in the show he is based off the first version they even show his comic accurate suit in the black and white picture
The Author hate captain America. He said that out of all hero he hate cap the most due to not being a true Soldier and earn his hero status from just being a poster boy which is nothing compared to the real heroes who fight on the Frontline.
I myself hate what the wizard of Oz movie (I don't think I need to mention which one) did to the franchise, but I'm entirely sure it's what most people recognise when they think of the wizard of Oz, I'm just in the minority, I also think the Jurassic park movie enters in that category as well.
Two words for you. I, Robot. The movie is a meta dystopian murder mystery thriller. The book is hundreds of pages of philosophy and nihilistic thinking with a conclusion that eventually the machines will be forced to end us or we end them.

If I remember correctly Garth Ennis does despises Captain America as he thinks he is an insult to veterans, which is like, his personal opinion I guess, I have never thought of him as either an insult or a praise of war veterans, just as a character who happened to be in WW2, so idk what to say about that. But I personally believe the one who portrays this is actually Soldier Boy I and not Soldier Boy III, Soldier Boy I is a person who calls himself a Soldier but has never actually been in war, and the first moment he does he makes a stupid decision that gets everyone killed because he is just an idiot and not a real soldier, I can only assume this is how Ennis sees Captain America, as someone who claims the title of Captain in his nickname but isn't actually a real soldier, or at least Ennis may think he isn't. (I mean, he was literally enlisted and got deployed a couple of times, but I think it could be more of a thing of spirit and not technicality, idk, I don't know Garth Ennis personally) Soldier Boy III on the other hand is not what Ennis thinks of Captain America, but is the complete opposite of what people think Captain America is, coward instead of brave, lack of any principles, morals or self respect instead of the person who literally died because he thought he was in the right, and fights to oppress instead to liberate. In summary, I think Soldier Boy I is the Satire, while Soldier Boy III is the parody.
In the show, he was portrayed as a coward who thrived on attacking people he perceived as weaker than he was. He was a coward and a bully. He was still a pathetic loser, maybe not as pathetic as his comic version. His entire badass persona was depicted by the series to have been fabricated out of thin air by Vaught. What's worse... Hughie let's him know that they knew he never actually served, that he wasn't an actual soldier, but he chose to kill his own son to prove he was still a badass. Crazy
Show soldier boy is in no way a coward, he still does have a badass persona and it wasn't made by vought and he actually tried to kill his own son because he was keeping true to his word not to prove how badass he is, you didn't even watch the show

His desire to kill Homelander didn't not come from a sense of honor to keep his word lol it was because he didn't raise Homelander and could see through homelanders weak facade. His entire background fighting WW2 nazis was fabricated. The one time he was sent into a real battlefield, he had a panic attack, and that was partly the reason supes were not allowed in the military.

He arrogantly instigated his own demise, and the only way to bring him under a safe control condition was to place him in a chemically induced coma. In a way, he's worse than Homelander in how he was completely all in to kill his son, no hesitation, his son was raised by someone else, and he needs to die. No introspective consideration. Just tell him he can win easy and he's in. Tell Soldier Boy he might lose our be killed and he'll fold. That's the show character that is who he is. Over there telling himself he fought nazis knowing dam well he never fought anyone who was an actual threat. Took the entire team to take him
I will consistently stand by the fact that the show is far better than the comics. The comics are mostly just wish fulfillment for edgy superhero haters
Is that really worth praising though? Like anytime I see this I dont think it's a compliment, You have the story written out for you, you can fix issues in said story, and you can improve on other important scenes. Am I missing something when it comes to a show being better than a comic?
SO glad the comics Soldier Boy isnt what we got in the show. Jensen Ackles did a rather good job of making Soldier Boy an unlikeable, rather intolerable pain in the ass that was only worth dealing with because they thought using him to fight fire with fire wouldn't backfire quite the way it did.
I wouldn’t describe tv soldier boy as badass. He’s a depressed, narcissistic, violent person with zero empathy or capability of considering how his actions affect others. He’s easily manipulated by the boys for their own purposes including killing his own son (deserved). He’s kind of a dead beat piece of shit junkie bully. He’s such an awesomely written character

As someone who is a mega fan of the comics and prefers them over the show. Soldier Boys change was one of the only good changes they made to his character imo. Plus Jensen Ackles was just a perfect pick to play the mega asshole yet likeable character he was.
@remphz3321 Trust me when I say people (fanboys of the show mostly) MASSIVELY over exaggerate how bad the comics are as most of them haven't even read a single volume of them and get all the information about them from that one video from Pointlesshub misrepresenting what the comics are completely. They are great and I'd highly reccomend you give them a read yourself and form your own opinion of them. I prefer them to the show simply because Garth has more respect for his characters in the comic than the show, like how Hughie actually has a developed character arc and doesnt revert back to his season 1 self at the end of every season. and he doesn't use it as a source to spout his political beliefs like Kripke does post season 1 of the show. The most he ever does is talk about and show the military industrial complex in a negative light since this was post 9/11 America.
Im currently reading the comics, I seriously cannot see why people give the show the pass while the comics get trashed on, albeit I still think the show is better, to say it's garbage I just think they only looked at the panels and never read the comics
I've never read The Boys comics but I've seen so many vid and clips that i think I've got the gist of it but every once in a while i come across some new WTF info
They aren’t necessarily trash, they just have two completely different objectives. The show is a satire of modern celebrity worship and political polarization while the comic is a satire of the entire comic book industry of the late 90’s.
And super sonic had that Star on a suit. And they changed a couple of male characters to female characters and they also changed. Certain people that weren't afraid of homelander that were human
Everything is completely different in the comics. The comics is just rape and murder joke after rape and murder joke, it is horrendous writing and general, and it is not worth reading. It is nothing like the show.
So Garth Ennis sees Captain America as a civilian with stolen valor, even though Cap was a WW II veteran created by two WWII veterans, Stan Lee and Jack Kirby!
