I recall seeing a list of people condemned to death as recently as the 19th century. Two 13 year old girls and worse a 6 year old boy, guilty of stealing bread, were among them. There is no record if they were hanged or transported to a colony. But even to consider a starving 6 year old.

While in college in the 1970's I read about a starving 8-year-old orphan boy in 1708 who was hanged by an English judge for stealing a roll from a bakery. My view of English jurisprudence changed for ever.

As a young man King Henry was known for his easy going nature and sense of humour . However following being thrown from his horse and being unconscious for some days , apon regaining conscious his personality changed dramatically . Now I am not apologizing for him , but recent historians have suggested brain trauma causing a change of personality . He certainly became very short tempered and paranoid .

Henry Tudor was a nutjob. He was scared of his own shadow and as a result he killed anyone that dared made him feel inferior as a man or ruler. His intense jealousy over Anne was used against him and that is why it was so easy for Cromwell to convince Henry of her infidelity even though she was always faithful to Henry, she was the one that brought the Prayer books to England and made sure every household had one. She was deeply religious and always had been in spite of her sisters and mothers reputations for being immoral women that made mistresses of themselves to high ranking men including Nobels and of course Kings. Anne was determined not to be looked down upon as a whore but in the end Cromwell made sure to sully her good name with the help of liars such as Lady Rochford Jane Parker (Goerge Boleyn''s vindictive wife.) Henry's obsession with having a son overrode his common sense and when he fell off his horse during a Jousting Tourament and suffered a concussion that made him far worse in fact, he became a tyrant. He only cared about himself at the end of his life once he'd had Anne Boleyn beheaded his act of being so in love with Jane Seymour was exactly that. All he wanted from her was a son. After that was acheived he never pushed any of his future wives to conceive a son. Yet he still managed to Divorce one, Behead another and only by the grace of God did Catherine Parr survive his reign of terror. I do know that many children even before little Alice was hanged were exacuted alone with their families for various religious reasons. First by Catholic Preist who felt that the entire family had to be cleansed by fire in order to save their souls to those deemed traitors of the crown and entire familes were killed. Many burned at the stake. Henry's reign towards the latter part of his life of fraught with fear and torment of his own people. He managed to kill 68k people in his lifetime. The only reason anyone even remembers this man is because of his brutality and the senseless exacution of his most imfamous wife, Anne Boleyn.

We only have to look at recent events in Iraq and Syria in respect to child executions and executioners

I normally love your videos, but here you just spend 7 minutes basically saying 'We think an 11 year old was hung in a small town 500 years ago. May or may not have been part of a wider criminal gang but really we have no idea what she was hung for, who hung her, or any details whatsoever.'

Rev Thomas Butler records: "Here was buried John Dod of the parish of Little Wenlock, who was hanged here, as also Alice Glaston, 11 yrs of age, of the parish of Little Wenlock, and Wm. Harper, a tailor." -And later: "Three Convicts buried; one a girl of 11 years old." That is ambiguous; it could mean that only Dod was hanged, and the other two died (e.g. of disease in prison), before all three were buried. Is there any other surviving record of Alice Glaston or the crime of Harper?

It still shocks me that people vilify his daughter Mary as bloodthirsty....Henry killed about 2000 people per year of his reign (not to mention the soldiers killed in his glory-seeking wars, or the people who dies because of his greedy policies), yet Mary, who killed less than 400 over the course of her tenure is called "Bloody Mary". The executions that she ordered were certainly vile, but she probably wholeheartedly believed that heretics were lost souls who needed purifying. The executions were very public in an attempt to scare others back to the "true path". She should be pitied for having been so completely brainwashed by the Roman Catholic money-grabbing machine. Anyone who follows history should have seen a much more egregious massacre in France at about the same time, over the same BS. Religion has a lot to answer for.

Something you havent considered is that the Parish record records 3 burials, not three hangings .. merely that one man was hanged and then buried, a girl was buried and a tailor was buried that day. This whole thing may never have happened at all. Other evidence is needed

Thomas Cromwell was actually shown considerable kindness by Henry VIII by the standards of the day. By rights, as a commoner convicted under the Treason Act (1351, Edward III), he should have been hanged, drawn and quartered. Death by beheading, normally reserved for senior nobility, was considered more merciful. Even though the disgraceful killing of this child took place during the reign of Henry VIII, the law under which it took place were probably a couple of centuries old by then. Henry was well known for "commuting" sentences of hanging, drawing and quartering for men, or burning at the stake for women to simple hanging. As was his daughter Elizabeth, but not the fanatical Bloody Mary.

I saw a show a few years back about an 11 year old girl being hanged around that time period and I think it was for witchcraft Her name stands out in my mind and if I remember correctly she was imprisoned with her grandmother who died in prison before the trial It was a British program but I don't remember which channel made the show

I’ve read a whole lot about Henry VIII and never saw anything about him killing an 11 year old girl. What’s great about modern information sources is that a more well rounded wealth of information is available. Even though that comes with a lot more disinformation, it’s still great.

There was nothing really unusual about that in Tudor Henry's kingdom. People could be hung for vagrancy or even being jobless... as with the 'sturdy beggars.' You have to understand that the majority of people would have been dirt poor.

It wasn't ONLY Tudor England! Children were executed clear up to the beginning of the 19th century! BTW, executions ALWAYS drew a crowd, being a major form of entertainment, right up till they started performing them behind prison walls. The more "unusual" the subject(s), the bigger the crowd Oh, and Henry, probably, never even HEARD of Alice, just as he never heard of the vast majority of executed "felons" during his reign

The poor child might have been the victim if some perv who, upon being caught or accused, could have said the girl was a witch and had cast a spell on him which made him act that way. I think that's probable in that day and age.

I'm wondering if the girl had an illegal Bible. The Catholic authorities wouldn't hesitate to hang or torch you for possessing a Bible. Henry VIII is reported to be equally happy whether Catholics were hanging or Protestants. Henry didn't like unauthorized religious activity but I've not seen anything about his attitude towards Bible possession.

No desire to defend Henricus Ye 8, but this doesn't seem to be a personal crime of the monarch. It was more that the legal system available at the time processed a young child, for reasons that we do not understand and about which we should want to know more.

I hate that him being king supposedly makes this something other than child murder. If he answered to the law today, he would have multiple life sentences for his crimes against women and children.
