The Bugatti EB110 Is the Ultra-Rare, Ultra-Quirky 1990s Bugatti

Poltrona Frau is Italy’s high end furniture builder, supplier to royalty and uber-rich since early 1900’s. That’s why it’s logo is prominently embossed on the seats.

When Doug was made in the lab, I saw them installing his arms in order to facilitate the expulsion of voice from his vocal chords. The two are indelibly linked

If you watch closely when Doug is explaining the wing and how it rises when the car is turned on, you’ll also see that the glass panel that says EB110 also moves. I would presume to let more air into the car.

Fun fact : The person who revived Bugatti was Roman Artioli. He also bought Lotus and made a halo car that today we adore, the Lotus Elise. It was named after his granddaughter Elisa. And it is approved by Michael Schumacher.

90s was something special, cars like Mclaren f1 Jaguar xjr220 Bugatti eb110 Mercedes clk gtr Porsche ctr Lamborghini diablo Ferrari f50/f40 Dodge viper gen 1 And Jdms were at there prime R32/r33/r34 gtr Supra mk4 Mazda rx7.

This has actually been my favorite car for many years. I LOVE the design of the EB110. It's honestly, beautiful.

The interior has a distinct “made by an Italian guy in a shed” vibe.

Can’t believe I’ve only just got round to watching this episode!! Along with the McLaren F1 and Porsche Carrera GT, the EB110 is one of my favourite hyper cars, especially in SS spec. I loved the spec, smallish capacity V12, FOUR turbos and 4wd, clothed in a compact mid-engined body. I like it more than the Veyron and Chiron. Fun fact: Along with the Diablo, the EB110 shared headlights with the Nissan 300ZX of the 90’s.

Certainly this has a spot in the pantheon of the greatest wheel designs.

Hey Doug, I found this on the internet: The prototype SS39006 was used for the US version development and received the interconnected fuel tanks, with a twin tank single filler. The single filler system was developed to overcome the problem that blighted most other EB110 owners, as their cars were fitted with the standard twin tank, twin filler system. This system was set up as 2 individual systems, each supplying fuel to one bank of the V12 engine. In simple terms, it meant that if you ran one tank dry of fuel, the car would only run on 6 cyl, even though you may have had a full tank on the other side. Therefore, Bugatti developed with this linked system, which eradicates this issue and this prototype was manufactured with this new system. So, the right hand fuel filler and its flap were removed, and the retractable plate was replaced by a Naca air intake integrated in the right side wall. Rear side markers were positionned on the side of the rear bumper.

This car is so rare that it's conceivable that at the time of filming you were the only person in the whole world driving an EB110 at that moment. Awesome

This car was a legend in my generation and very well known...I was born in 1980 and was very aware of this car when I grew up. It was one of the posters next to F40, Countach and all the Marlboro rally cars like the Lancia Delta Integrale. I even (still) have a 1:24 model. Great to see it "irl" instead of a museum. Doug, you missed a ridiculously good quirk: not only does that car have two fuel tanks, each tank supplies only half the engine. If you run out of gas on one, you’re running on 6 cylinders.

Way back when. The EB110 had the world record top speed on ice. 186mph IIRC. Best looking Bugatti ever too.

The factory-spec EB110 had a significant issue with fuel delivery. The car had two separate fuel tanks and fillers, one for each bank of the 3.5-litre V-12 engine. This caused the engine to run on only six cylinders if one tank ran dry before the other.

That ending clip was amazing

Talking about the engine: what's even more impressive back in the day than the 'quad-turbo's' are the 5 valves per cylinder... Yup, this monster has 60 valves...

Everybody who has an interest in cars, knows EXACTLY what this car is.

Other interesting quirks of this car include the fact that even though the V12 is only 3.5L (and therefor each cylinder is tiny) it has 5 valves per cylinder. Also, the gearbox is not mounted as a separate piece behind the engine like in most rear-mid engine cars. Instead it is integrated into the side of the engine crankcase, the engine and gearbox is really one single package. That is also how they get drive to the front wheels, using concentric axles in the gearbox they can have power outputs both at the back and the front. It is an engineering marvel that any car tech-geek should take a closer look at!

Those seats were actually made by a luxury Italian furniture manufacturer (Poltrona Frau) which is known for it's high grade leather used for upholstery. It would be similar to the Bugatti Chiron Hermes Edition from Manny Koshbin. Curious to know if those seats were standard on the cars.

Back in 1998 I was in Toronto for a high end car show. A blue EB110 was there, Aston Martin Laganda Shooting Break, A one off Ferrari 4 seater Shooting Brake, 3 Ruff Porsche’s, some unique Alfa Romeo’s, Rolls Royce, Bentley, older Citroen, Fiats. It was a great time

In 1994 I had a poster with this car and a Bburago mini model of it with working doors working steering and battery to play a 10 seconds of that amazing engine sound

You missed the fact that as the spoiler lifts, the panel that says “EB110” behind the window also moves to act as an air duct

Bugatti's story is so convoluted: it was founded in France by an Italian engineer, went bust in the 50s, was re-opened in Italy by an Italian, went bust, then was re-opened in France by the Germans.

I like how classy the interior looks, then you see that bright green Pioneer radio. lol

Missed one of the cars other party tricks too. In the segment regarding the wing lifting at ignition on, if you watch closely, the panels that say 110EB at what would be the B pillar open up to drive air into the engine bay. They move inwards to create a duct. You can see this happening in the video of the wing raising. The vents on the rear of the car are to allow this air flowing in from the side ducts to exit out the back. I was shown this as a kid by a friend of the family who had an EB110, and it is one of my favourite supercars ever.

You forgot to mention the origin of the name. EB110: celebrated the 110th birthday of Ettore Bugatti, who was born in Italy. So the automaker already had something Italian before the 1990s...

I used to have a 1/18th die cast Bburago model of this exact same car. The doors opened too. This should have gotten much higher scores. It should have been judged based on its competitors when it was new. I'd much prefer this to the new Bugatti's. Thanks.

The EB110 stands for what would have been Ettore Bugatti's 110th birthday.

Besides the Dauer EB110, there was also a company called "B-Engineering" who used the chassis end engine of the EB110 to build a crazy car called the "Edonis". If you could ever get your hands on one of those for a review that would be insanity, mainly due to the fact that (to my knowledge) only 21 were ever build.

the lines/shape of the body/design give it that retro 80s super car look like the testarossa, love it, i can just imagine it with pop up lights and such, could look even cooler...the interior def needs overhauling tho

This was a dream car for me in the 90's. I used to have this car as a toy (Scale) and it was amazing.
