The Cabs '二月の兵隊' (Soldiers of February) [Color Coded Lyrics ENG/JPN/ROM] 

Yeah it does feel like its about that! One of the interpretations I could think of based on this is that the narrator in this could be a person or a soldier from Siberia and the other person he mentions could symbolify the country(Because of the “He craves your body using a language i don’t understand. “ Here the language being Japanese which Siberians can’t understand.) But this does not make exact sense with the “Your name is engraved in a grave in Siberia part”. Although the part Takahashi sings makes sense with this + what the blue shoes represent is still not very clear in this context. Another explanation(and this is a bit farfetched) is that the person here is a survivor who lost their loved one in or before this continuous war. Them saying “ I lost my blue shoes and I cant seem to move without them” and “Taking your hand, we run to a godless church.” kind of contradict each other . Which i think hints that the person lost and the “blue shoes” are the one and the same. Its also solidified by “He craves your body”(That is engraved by taking over that piece of land) and “Disappears in a city where i lost my blue shoes” (Where he lost that person”) .And them running with this person could be that they have given up and wants to die to be with the other person and “godless church” could be said because they don’t believe in god because of this atrocity but still want to believe that they will meet the other person after death. Although in this I cant make sense of Takahashi’s part. Well these are just mere guesses but one thing common in them is i couldn’t figure out the first line in both verses. Could the cruel words be the start of war im not sure. Either way thanks so much for your explanation!

@@utsunyan7845 Thank you so much for your insight. Pure speculation, but I believe the blue shoes mentioned are 地下足袋 (Jikatabi). They've been worn by the Japanese since the Edo period. However, they did not become popular with Japanese soldiers until World War II, which does not add up with the timeline, but it could be a possibility. I think your second explanation has some validity to it, as the lyrics do personify the blue shoes. Thinking on your explanation, and looking back on the lyrics. There's a possibility the narrator is a Japanese solider, but the person they are trying to run away with is Siberian. Therefore, "Your name is engraved in a grave in Serbia" could mean "You are meant be here for the rest your life, and I am not". The Japanese fought in Siberia, so that would explain "He craves your body using a language I don't understand". Going back to those blue shoes, maybe they represent the narrator's will to be a solider. "I can't move without them". The narrator can't continue on being a solider and the most likely reason is that narrator meets this other person in a distant city ("Disappearing into a distant city where I lost my blue shoes"). The first line is a bit confusing for me as well, I am not sure who the narrator is talking about. I would assume it's not the person they are running away with, as it doesn't make sense with the context we have. English doesn't do this line justice in my opinion (direct translation anyways). The narrator isn't just saying this person is cursing at them, but verbally abusing them, and violent in tone. So, I think the "you" in this line is a generalization of the "enemy", but again just speculation. I completely agree with your explanation regarding the lines talking about "a godless church". They may not believe in God, but I think they want to believe in God for the reason you mentioned (so they can be together in death). Thank you so much for your ideas regarding the meaning. I also originally thought about the possible of the narrator being a japanese soldier but i shied away from it after the "language i dont understand" line but it seems much more obvious when you pointed it out by viewing the same line in a different light. I love this about their music and complex music in general. Looking forward to your further uploads!

My guess would be that the singer is a Japanese Soldier who is with his love in Siberia. He gets screamed at by a russian soldier whose words he can't understand. While running away with his love he got stuck and lost his blue shoes. They were runing towards a Christian Church to seek shelter. Since japanese are not Christian, maybe that is the reason it is godles. Maybe he lost her along thr way and found her grave years after. Then, while searching for his lost shoes on the field in wich he got stuck, he met a farmer whose hands got crippled in the war. They then both searched for his shoes because he wants to find them as a memory of his love. Sorry. I am not a Englisch speaker but i hope it makes sense

All the songs of Österreich and the Cabs follow the same style of frequent time changes and use of odd and complex time signatures ( Math Rock ) , breaking every standards of a normal song (currently over used and over hyped style ) and yet being Incredibly Unique and beautiful .This is the main reason I feel in love with Österreich and getting to understand the lyrics Increased my love and respect towards Takahashi x100 . I always found songs from Österreich and the cabs to be incredibly unique not only in instrumentation but lyrically as well.
