He played on some pretty bad Canucks teams in the 80s, but his stats were always excellent.

Hi from Germany, born 89 Tony Tanti was my first favorite Player and is to this day! He played for my childhood team from western Berlin and was a force, as he came to Germany the league was named „Bundesliga“ as you said, it was renamed „DEL“ i believe at 94/95 Season. So Bundesliga and DEL means the same league. Thanks for the video, keep on going

Tanti was traded for Ken Priestlay, who whilst a decent depth player in the NHL/minors came to Britain and became an absolute legend. Many former Penguins would ultimately follow him to our humble league.

Nice to see Tanti get some love. He was a bright spot on those terrible 80's teams.

I remember my dad saying that during the 1980s Tanti was often the player that gave fans something to cheer for. To have essentially a 40 goal scorer, five years in a row during those dark days is something to be celebrated.

Forgotten player, except for the THG HOF! In those days I never followed the other conferences so barely remember him, his name showing up in box scores. Don't play for doormats, classic line. Those are good totals for the talent around him and can only imagine what he'd be like with a great chemistry linemate. Just as you say, he'd be better remembered.

Had he played on the Gretzky line and Kurri played Tanti’s role he might have 1000 points today.

Thanks for doing a video on Tanti. I think he's one of the most underrated players in Canucks history. Could you do a career video on another Canuck I find be underrated, Petri Skriko?

You comment doesn't appear to be getting seen as the video was posted 10 months before it. I'm a lifelong Canucks fan and your dad gave us a lot to cheer for at a time when there wasn't much else positive to experience. I think one of the things Canucks fans appreciated about him is that he wasn't the biggest guy out there but he worked hard every shift and he got most out of his talent through hard work and perserverance. From what I recall he was also a pretty classy guy both on and off the ice. I hope he's doing well!!

The Canucks always had good players. They just weren’t superstars and they practically had to do it all on their own. The Sedins had the same problem for much of their careers. They’d just stick them with a bottom 6, overachieving grinder and they’d turn that player into a superstar if they could get to the net and take a pounding with their stick on the ice. If you look at the drafts, it was just miss after miss for decades, so guys had to brought in via trade, and just the fact that they were available tells you that the Canucks weren’t bringing in people who were expected to do much. When I look at Tanti, Sundstrom, Gradin and others, I think of what could have been if they played with linemates of their caliber. And that starts at the draft. How many top 10 goal or point getters have the Canucks actually drafted? It’s a pretty short list.

Not many hockey players can say they destroyed a Wayne Gretzky record. He set the rookie goal scoring record in the OHL with 81 goals shattering Gretzky's 70 goals.

I remember the 1983-84 season when Tanti had 25 goals after 31 games and was well on his way to probably a 60 goal season but faded in the second half and ended up with 45 goals.

His first year in Pittsburgh he put up 32 points in 37 games. But then the Penguins added Joey Mullen and Jagr for a team that already had Mark Recchi and Rob Brown at right wing. So he was on the 3rd or 4th line and get almost no power play time, caused his numbers to drop.

Penguins knew Dan Quinn was damaged goods when they dumped him on you. Luckily for y'all the blues we're dealing. That trade you glossed over? 4 for 2. Geoff Courtnall, Cliff Ronning, Sergio Momesso, some sad defenseman. FOR??? Dan Quinn and Garth Butcher. YOU'RE STILL WELCOME!
