Awww this is when life was so great. Only at 25 years old and had my whole life ahead of me. Here i sit listening once again and turning 60 next month and this made me cry.
Also 60 years old. It seems like yesterday I was cruising in my 1973 Black Dodge Charger with this cranked and the windows rolled down. Miss those carefree days.
@big boy The song Heartbeat City was totally underrated when the album was released in 1984. Unlike the four other top 10 hits from the album, it never broke into the Billboard top 100 in the U.S. and the song charted only at number 78 in the United Kingdom and number 75 in Australia.
There’s an old saying, you don’t know what you got until it’s gone. Sadly we don’t have Ben & Ric anymore, however the wonderful music they made with The Cars will live on forever. ❤
Wish I was alive in the late 70’s to hear them in the context of music at that time, and how fresh and unique their sound was. They were so far beyond the AM disco and easy listening crap that was popular at the time.
Yesterday I was fish trolling through a lot of "Live Aid 85" videos. But when I wake up this next morning. I had this beat/sound in my head. I had to find out which song it came from :-) and this was this ;-)
Same here but I've been listening to it since I bought the cassette tape from Kmart in 1984, 38 years ago, if you can believe that. It's still magical and hypnotic.
hi dude, I see that you have a pseudonym of Blade Runner, and I don't know if you noticed it but in this song there are some sounds that are very similar to some of the main themes of Blade Runner music, I think it must be because of the keyboards that The Cars used, keyboards that were very emblematic in the 80s and that were used by Vangelis in person, the composer of the Blade Runner music; possibly the keyboardist of The Cars or the whole band used those similar musical notes from the music of Blade Runner intentionally because they were all fans of the movie, and since that movie shows a society and civilization lost in the mists and frameworks of an endless city those musical notes came in handy for a song that would speak of the sadness and nostalgia of a lonely man, singing the lost love of a woman in a big city, i think that happen with this amazing song, well, maybe is like this or is just my idea hehehe, greetings, dude ;)
What a classic song , great band and so many awesome songs , we don't go looking for old music , we look for the the memories they carry with us , songs like this have no expiry date 🎸🎸
A masterpiece that stands tall half-way between Pat Metheny and the Human League, electrifying the breezy haziness of East Coast soft rock with new wave electropop. The lyrics are also a perfect fusion of teenage longing and elliptical storytelling
@HenryDavidT And every song you mentioned is just the tip of the iceberg, because their first two albums were even better....each one had at least three or four hits & not a single dud. 😎
@HenryDavidT So....do you still play that guitar along with the Cars music??? My kids were in 2nd grade and Kindergarten back in the 80's. Now in the 21st Century...they still love listening to them. My son felt badly when we learned of Ric's passing from our world. 😮😥 I lost my daughter unexpectedly, of course. She would've been heartbroken to learn of Tom Petty, Ric Ocasek, and Eddie Money passing away. She used to dance in front of the TV when MTV was a real music television station.
Always loved the cars… I was 20, 21 years old laying on my bed listening to this song with my whole future ahead of me!!!! Such a beautiful time in my life. Crying just remembering those days ….everything was perfect and hopeful for the future!!!! Sad to be over!
I have been searching for this song for too long and I found it 2 days ago. The funny part of it is that I always thought that this song was from Supertramp and I couldn't find it for ages. Thanks to my friend who had Shazam, thank you mate. One of the most amazing songs I have ever heard in my life. God bless The Cars for this magical song.
I can see where you thought it might be Supertramp. Happiness is finding a song you have been trying to find. Your lucky at least nowadays we have Search Engines. It was really hard to find songs many years ago. Hated it when DJ's would never say the name of a song, like we are all supposed to know it already like mind readers.
To me this song "IS" The Cars. Back in the day I recorded a tape from the CD so I could play the song on a near continuous loop. RIP Rick, you brought great happiness to more people than you could ever know.
Radio Stations in Los Angeles didn't play this song much at all. They played just about every song of theirs but this one. I stumbled across it while playing a CD. A mystery why they tried to hide it from us.
Denise: I've played Heartbeat City everyday for over a month now. Some days,I play it multiple times..It's just so mesmerizing and iconic. ....RIP: Ben Orr and Ric Ocasek 🙏🌟🎸🎹
The Cars have been a major influence in Pop and New Wave Music. The music has broken all kinds of genre in todays Pop music. They were truly many light years ahead of their times.
I was given brushoff the first time I heard this song. Listened to it once and again, helped me keep the mood, sad, blues, and somehow comfortable, unable to forget that girl. Wonderful 80s, wonderful teenage, wonderful The Cars. Oh mate how I love this song!!!
The Live Aid version is also a wicked tune. You stopped all our hearts when you passed Ric. Goodbye old friend.Say hello to Ben. Keep Moving in Stereo and Let's Go..... You really knew how to Shake It Up Bye Bye Love
@@25dollarsaday55 Yes Ric knew what he had in Ben,the full package rock star frontman who could play and sing and was a looker, chicks and guys loved him.So after Richard and the Rabbits,Ric and Ben knew what they didn't want and found David on drums,Greg on keyboards and everything else and EE on guitar.Ric and Ben wete both great guitar players but EE was from another universe and even switched from right to left handed playing for "symmetry" on stage. With great players Ric crafted songs to everyones strenghths and out of that The Cars rocked to the top. I'm so lucky to have been a sophmore in high school the year they came out and started the sound track to my life.
Absolutely definitive sound of the 80s. The Cars took techno to the ultimate level, glorious synths, spot on bass driving it on with the drum beat and the guitar lead a true art form. Ric's vocals on this are beautifully absorbed into the instrumentation and the track is just perfection for me. The song lives on.
When I first heard The Cars self-titled first album in 1978, I was hooked. And can safely say that, even though I have a number of favorite bands, The Cars is my all time #1 favorite band, hands down, bar none. Wore out many copies of Heartbeat City. Lots of people call this pop, I call this smooth.
I'm 61, and I love this cars music, so talented guys, I lost 4 members of my family last year I'm hoping 2021 is a better year, This is good old times Rock N Roll !!!
Nobody can replace that VOICE OF RICK AND BEN!! I remember in 78 the first time I heard ,let the good times roll! That guitar INTRO I was hooked from then on!!
When I was a teenager in the 80s I listened to the Cars albums so much that the lyrics to the songs were carved into my brain. Didn't listen for a decade or more then rediscovered them and could sing every word. Benjamin Orr and Rics voices were perfect for the songs. Such a hugely talented band and I still listen to them almost every day. Ben and Ric's voices will live on forever. Just beautiful ❤️
Canción pegadiza que puedes escuchar todo el día sin parar y sin cansarte. Me encanta.!.
The Cars Forever 🎶🔥🎶🔥🎶🔥
This song brings back so many memories that went way to fast im 61 now and it still take me to infinity and beyond every time i listen to it wish i could go back there one more time
Que musica tan agradable, definitivamente The Cars una de las mejoras bandas ochenteras, sonidos basicos, sintetizador, gitarras, bajo y bateria y esa espectacular voz de su cantante. unica👏
