I am 50 an hate to say this not wanting to sound like a big baby but this song made me tear up the first time i heard it. It just touched something deep inside me. This is the best ballad done by the cars. Maybe its just new, but this is an amazing song. The lyrics just slam you.
Lee Samelson that final record is awesome. The music industry was putting out so much other crap. Most people overlooked real music. This should have been big.
The Cars are and will be indeed one of the greatest american mainstream pop rock bands of all times to come who've left a big mark of innovation internationally as well, 5 guys with the perfect chemistry for mega success, great songs and great lyrical content, age really doesn't matter they have come into mastership songwritting which is only achieved with time, i listen to my Cars collection all the time their music still sounds fresh, creativity in contemporary music is pale, boring & stalled.
I bought this record the day it came out. I was on the cusp of my 44th birthday and had recently celebrated seven years with the great love of my life. We just passed Year Nine and this song is still melts my cold, black heart. Thank you, Ric.
Incredibly underrated!! Ric Ocasek and the Cars, a dream for the world. I regret I never saw them as they never came to Rome.... What a shame! I will love them forever. Thank you so much for your magic sound
This song will for always be in my heart. After 30 years we reunited by some miracle....but yet it still wasnt right. Like you said babe "It just wasnt our time". I will miss you now and forever. xoxox
Me too, i cry bcs the lyrics are soooo, true and innocent. It will be in my wedding for sure. The CARS still ROCK, amen.. wish Ben would have been in it also. God Bless:=)
I just discovered this album, Soon and Blue Tip are my favorite. Thanks, Mike Lentz for introducing me to The Cars and The Alan Parsons Project back in 1980 at UW-Madison
It’s strange that I had a desire to listen to the cars on Saturday, then I found out Ric had passed on Sunday, i’ve been listening to a lot of their songs old and new, always loved heartbeat city album, this song reminds me of Drive, brings back a lot of memories, rest in peace Benjamin and Ric, Love the music that you made will always have a special place in my heart
RIP Ric. A year on and still your Magic finds new ways to touch and surprise. A fan since your first album, I missed out on The Cars final album thanks to the shit grit of life. You are missed.
This band showed a lot of class. They waited 23 years ,before releasing this album. They could have sold-out, and kept recording after Ben's death, but I think that they didn't want to do it without him. They sound great and I am glad that they got it together for this album.
I feel ashamed... When they got back together and recorded Move Like This, I either heard nothing about it or must have shrugged it off... Had bad things happening for half that year... GOD, how I wish I had realized... Ric (up there somewhere with Benjamin), Elliot, Greg, David.. You did a beautiful job! Ric, your passing still makes me cry... I think of all the music we will never get to hear from you.. Rest in Peace. But jam like Hell with Benjamin! :) P.S. This song is absolutely beautiful perfection... just like Drive.
I stumbled on to this looking for another Cars song and you are so right-this is a great song and Rick sounds just like he always did and brings back a lot of memories from the 80s. It is refreshing to have an 80s band bring about great new stuff and not just remakes. Thanks Cars!!
Also love their "Take another look" song. Man, they sound like they never stopped playing! They definitely kept true to their style of music! Glad they are back!
Wonderful!!!!! This song is sure to become a classic! So beautifully arranged! The sound just amazing!!! I like the whole CD!!! Cheers to Ric Ocasek and the band -- Ben Orr would love this!
Ocasek in a Vanity Fair Interview: " "I like to write them (*ballads), but I wish Ben could have been around to sing it... It was easy to get the guys back. I wrote these songs without thinking about the Cars, but then all of a sudden I just thought maybe I should just get the guys. They already understand the way I do things. Let’s make another record and let the past be the past. Of course, we’re never going to replace Ben, because he’s irreplaceable. And now I have to sing everything."
This seems like one Ben might have been handed to sing had he still been around. But Ric's vocal is great here regardless. Fits the music and lyrics perfectly.
I was SO lucky to see them on this mini-tour. They only played 11 cities I think. The venue was packed, and they played a fantastic show ! Ben Orr's bass guitar was on stage with them, with a spotlight on it. Greg Hawkes picked it up and played it on one song. I sure wish they would have done a major tour, or at least filmed this. I managed to video a partial song, before a bouncer called me out on it.
I saw them in Minneapolis up at the rail and it was a great show. The crowd was great and Ric even said at the end that we were the "best crowd yet". I think Greg picked up Ben's bass for both Touch and Go and I'm in Touch With Your World at that particular gig too.
I seen the first show of this tour at the Showbox in Seattle. They played Moving in Stereo and Ric did not like the way it sounded and he asked the crowd if we wanted to hear it again and the crowd went nuts and they played it twice. SO cool
A great tribute to Benjamin Orr. Ric is singing like Ben and it is their new found attempt at "Drive" without him. The Cars without B. Orr is hard to take. I've seen the Cars in concert probably a dozen times. I met Ben in passing maybe twice. I miss him. The Cars are great, but something is just not right without Benjamin Orr.
A month ago I found this album I didn’t know about... Gee now Ric has past on. Yesterday is gone and now is all we have... CAR’s music is really neat stuff! Thank You! Roland
The best 3 songs on this album are this song & the songs immediately before & after it. Throughout this album i get melancholy vibes in the music for the loss of Ben. I think the band & listeners alike can all feel it. Some decent tracks, including this one, have resulted because of it.
This song makes me all giddy I listened to it a bunch of times but never did it make sense until my ex-girlfriend called me late one night and told me she forgives me for fucking up as bad as I did. Then this song popped into my head - I had waited 4 long years for that phone call
"Soon" you're my lover, you're the one I depend on with one another we don't have to pretend you could turn me down or over twice you could treat me mean or treat me nice but soon the time will come I know what I put you through the time will run away from us like time it will do you're my lover and forever my friend when I touch you I never want it to end when the starry night is left to dawn the thought of you just keeps me dreaming on but soon the time will come I know what I put you through the time will run away from us like time it will do when I need you, you will always be there and you're my lover we can go anywhere when the starry night is left to dawn the thought of you just keeps me dreaming on but soon the time will come I know what I put you through the time will run away from us like time it will do I know what I put you through
My youth was lonely and with one girl so much in love. Being in love her was just like a drug on fire. I loved heer like no other woman, and never will. The endmof ric is the end of my memories of youth.
Thanks for the reply. I was lucky enough to get to see them on their 10 city tour. They played their first one in 23 years in Seattle at a very small venue. I was in the front row standing against the stage. It was so cool. Rik actually was smiling alot. I think we the fans blew him away. It looked like he was pleasantly suprised about our reception of them. The album is great. It sounds exactly like something they would have done in the late 70's. Thanks for the reply and rock on!
There, there now....its okay dear friend, it's done the same for me. In fact, this group has penned quite a few songs over the years that has worked our tear ducts.....they are that good!!
With the exception of "Blue Tip", this album didn't blow me over the first time I heard it. But by the second and then third time I realized it's an AMAZING album! Equal to their older stuff. and better than Heartbeat City and D.2 D.
I agree 100% bro on your comment! I was very fortunate to get to see this concert. The first concert in 25 yrs was played at a super small venue, the showbox in Seattle. It was their first concert in 25 yrs. They only played 10 shows nationally. Even though Ben was not there (RIP Ben) they were outstanding. Thank you Cars for a lifetime of music and memories!
Awesum group Cars what a magic time to re-group put an album out, mention Ben in lyrics..they are so down to earth and i don 't care what anyone saids ,they never back stabbed and that is rare of groups...but there ya go R.I.P. Benjamin Orr...not forgotten.
What a beautiful song. It also would be a song for Benjamin. But Ric voice is here nice, too. So sad that he is gone now. Rest in peace lovely Benjamin and Ric.
Ric did terrific with this song. Ben would have even been better-probably a huge hit. This is as close as you can get to listening to Ric Ocasek years after The Cars.
I have to say, this is a beautiful song. I don't really care for Ric's voice in general, but here it's kind of different. I can only imagine how much better it would have been if Ben sang it. But it is nice. ❤
Next stop these guys NEED TO BE INDUCTED IN THE ROCK & ROLL HALL OF FAME. It is a crying shame that Joan Jett (i like her) gets in before the cars. COME ON! She is good no doubt but could not even sniff these guys jocks. Just look at the commercial sucess the cars had and Joan DIDNT HAVE. While we are at it they can induct Rush, Cheap Trick, Ted Nugent and George Thorogood. All better artists IMO than Joan Jett.
