@thecastellows are teaching me about country music with numbers like this. I followed only a couple country artists recently, Kacey Musgraves cause she was on SNL (Slow Burn!) and Katie Cole who I found because of her 80's acoustic covers :) The algorithm must have figured to send me Balkcom sister silo acoustic numbers after that? Thank you! And here we are. Other cool country artists the algorithm sent my way include Zandi Holup - she is one cool, sad hippy cowgirl (in her words)!
This Emmylou Harris cover is from the acoustic set in the show - this is the second time they've played this @EmmyLouharris live (first time being the night before in Fort Worth). The gals explain that they've been playing together without a band for years and so the acoustic set at the show is their thing / how they started. This is from the beautiful theatre The Louisiana Grandstand in Shreveport, Louisiana.
Ellie, Lily and Powell play several unreleased songs during the acoustic unplugged set (Miss America, Sheltered, Homecoming). Other nights included unplugged covers of The Chicks (Travelling Soldier) and Bruce Springsteen (I'm on Fire).
The intro is some banter on tuning guitars and Powell's banjo joke :) At the House of Blues show Ellie was a little frustrated noting she does not get time like others to tune her guitar because she is always playing on the songs. That was a month ago before this - now the gals seem to have taken a breath and slowed it down, added some banter and a banjo joke to let Ellie tune up. IMHO stage banter really makes for better concert performances and I can think of locals up here in Canada (Jann Arden, The Barenaked Ladies) who put on a comedy show between songs. In fact, Lily states they are doing a comedy show whenever there is some working things out on the fly on stage - bravo! - being too serious or scripted is not as good as seeing and hearing a free-flowing natural performance - "We always kinda wing it when we're up here" Keep it up :)
