Thank you! 25 years as a general automotive mech with a bent towards Euro imports, I had just enough diesel info to keep a VW truck or MB wagon running ;) NOW due to some inherited family issues, I am the proud(?) owner of a 2006 C7 in a box truck with 200K on the clock. Two hours of watching your vids, I have learned more than than I have been able to find in three weeks! As a certain actor sed: "I'll be back!" Thanx again!
@@randygonzalez6250 that former governor really should've retired after his acting career started declining, as much as i admire him for his bodybuilding and his acting, his politics are beyond me
Thanks for all you do for the wrench turners. I am a mechanic for morbark and I used your videos for reference for CAT engine service in our shop. Unfortunately, we just do fluids and basic stuff to engines, we dont have the time or manpower to do full fledged engine work. Thanks again man!
I'm a maint tech for a deere dealership. We see many trucks on the hook. Friday it was the fish hatchery crew, so it's great to have fact based insight toward their problem. Thanks for posting. M.
A couple of the oldest trucks in our fleet have these engines, and I just starting pulling an air compressor on one of them. Never really done this big of a job (at least in the engine bay) so wish me luck.
Thanks for the info, I am committed to a purchase of a 2008 Ford 650 and to my surprise it has a CAT engine. This info was not shared with me online, before I took the hour long drive to lay eyes on the truck. That reason was! the dealership does not have the authority to sale a commercial vehicles, I assume insurance or some other governing in there industry, however I test drove the truck and it ran fine although it seems to have an automatic engine break whenever I let off the accelerator the engine would slow itself down. But it is a beast of a truck! This is what brings me here. It is a AS IS! sale and there mechanics have no clue about this truck and they normally offer an inspection /diagnosis IN HOUSE. and Like you would imagine things got all slippery during the closing stages of the sale and I felt like I may be getting screwed. asking price $ 25,597. I got them to $24,497. Whata re the first things I should do with this truck to insure it's road worthy and I made a good purchase???
93-1 got a fuel pressure voltage high which indicates an open circuit. Well your video guided me to the back which has a fuel pressure sensor on the left side of the regulator that was unplugged.
I find your videos very helpful for my understanding, I myself am an apprentice with Hastings Deering Cat® from Papua new guinea in the pacific. But we come under an Australian region dealership. Im glad to know you make these sorts of videos. Please continue the great videos , really is good stuff.
So glad for the information. I really thought my motorhome had a great engine. After this video,I am convinced it is not. I gather the oil changes are most important. I would think an oil filter between the huei pump and the injectors would be a good idea.
I had the fan hub assembly seize while driving through AZ. The belt shredded and the fan fell off. I was lucky it didn't also destroy my year old radiator and CAC, but it still cost almost $3K when it was all done.
Love your content and how thorough you are yet speaking to a basic level of knowledge! Please keep the vids coming! I collect busses and you have saved me a lot of time!
Love your video's, I've watch these when i had a 3126 and I'm back because i believe i have a C7 in my 2006 Tiffen 40 ft motorhome. last week it was on it's way to Alabama from Philly PA, ran like a champ down the the Virginia North Carolina border and then it went bad. I wasn't there, a buddy of mine had it, he said it started blowing some black smoke, had a small vibration and then shut down, would crank and is now in a yard in NC. After watching your video i'm curious if the high pressure oil system could lock things up without really damaging the lower portion of the motor. I'm feeling like this is a blown motor but i am very limited on my diesel knowledge, if it was a gas motor i would know a little more, but i'm looking for some very educated info. My 2nd question would be, if this is a blown motor and i need to replace this do i have to replace it with a C7 or could i put another Cat motor in there instead. I really appreciate any help or advise you might have because I have to fix this, the motorhome is very nice with the exception on this issue.
This is fantastic!!! Thank you so much for this info. I have a cat year 2000 3126 and it runs great. I'm looking at a 2005 C7. I've seen this video and is there anyway in inspecting the truck with c7 to see if there are any HEUI problems? Hard cold start, smoke? What can I look for that could be a deal breaker onsite with no tools really? Truck has 150,000.
+n9878f Without a way to communicate with the engine, the best way would be start it when it's cold, look for any stumbling or surging, then run it at different rpms up to operating temperature. You should have them take it to a Dealer that could plug into it and pull any diagnostic codes if there are any. Usually they won't charge anything just to pull codes.
I worked on a 963 with a c7 bullshit spot for the side motor mounts had to either remove the cab or get a bunch of old service manuals to use as a booster so I could tighten it
well I stalled out the other night and it wouldn't start. I assumed it was filters. changed both and when I prime it I'm not getting resistance as it should. below the heui pump is where I'm hearing a hissing like noise. when I get it to prime at all it will fire up and run until it loses fuel I suppose. I'm obviously not a mechanic but good with working on my vehicles. had it towed to my house with hopes it was filters. the water separator was disgusting with what looked like mud or rust. I just bought the truck and few months ago. thank you very much for the response and rest assured I will be making a contribution once I know how!
+jeffrey katits You should email me at AdeptApe@yahoo.com It's easier to respond to comments that way. If you had rust in your filter, inspect those fuel tanks for deterioration. I would hook up a fuel line out of a bucket to isolate your suction side. You should watch my fuel system troubleshooting video if you haven't yet.
Keep coming back to your channel for more!! I have a question Got a c7 in my Sterling flatbed, power steering fluid god dumped out on the way back from a 30 mile drive. Pouring out of the reservoir itself. Can’t find any leaks, I put some pressure (10psi) to the reservoir itself to see if any vacuum hoses would leak but still nothing. It has the hydra boost brake booster so the brakes are tied into the power steering system. When I turn the steering wheel (with front end jacked up) left, the fluid level goes down, then turn right and it goes up in the reservoir. What makes it super pressurized is when I hit the brake pedal, almost instantly it’ll fill the reservoir and piss out of the cap. Thought the PS filter was clogged, changed it out and still pouring fluid. I have 3 things that are pretty pricey that I could replace: Power steering pump on the engine Brake booster on the truck Or steering gear. I’ve been doing some reading and apparently all of my symptoms point to the power steering pump itself. I’m planning on going to the CAT dealer in the morning but just wanted a second opinion. Thanks for all of the videos man I literally chop veggies/bbq to them when I make food lol even the ones that don’t directly apply to me I call it “learning ahead”
I have a 2007 f750 with a C7 that ive have for about a month now. 88*** miles man i can sleep worrying about this thing. One source says 16qts oil one says 19qt. Noticed upon start up "stop engine" light comes on for 2 seconds then disapears. Truck runs well tho carries 25 yds of wood chips (i run a small tree service) why would the "stop engine" light come on for a second like that? Runs like a champ. Have not had any issues with cold starts. Actually really enjoy the sound of this motor. But the potential issues scare the bejesus out of me.
I just had one of the brass/copper bushings go on one of my 05 C7's in a dumptruck. Took out the camshaft too as you mentioned. Curious to get your opinion on what would cause this to happen. Is this something that wears and weakens over time or can it just happen from abusive driving? Hard downshifting, lack of oil? This truck gets driven by several different people and wondering if I need to put more time into training my drivers. Your videos are great; thanks for sharing!
I enjoy all your videos and I want to thank you for for sharing your knowledge you make everything clear and I thank you again and take care and God bless
Weve been trying to narrow down a dead #5 cyc on a bus, now im thinking maybe something failed with the lifters. I didn't know that was a problem we've tried everything else so maybe this is the next step
Watching this years later because i just pulled a c7 head to discover cylinder walls 456 all had major scouring. Figured "i wonder if this is common". Unfortunately no😂
I have cimilar engine.. Cat c7 2007. Freightliner.. Nocking noise sometimes Specially when taking off stepping on gas Or on hight speed verly Did valve adjustment, did replaced all 6 injectors. ( No trim files were programmed) Any ideas ,,
I have a 3126 that has a air intake heater. The relay feeding power to the preheater is good. What tells the relay to turn on. It's in a 1998 chevy truck
I wonder why the caterpillar engineers didn't add a second exhaust valve. There's two intake valves and only one exhaust valve. Exhaust valve is a little larger (intake valve is 1.578 vs. 1.697 exhaust. I believe the exhaust valve also opens larger.
Hi Sir,l have a question regarding to a C7 engine,my friend is selling me truck that has this C7,apparently is loosing oil true the blow pipe, trucks runs but has that problem, can l put a 3126 and replace the C7.?or is not possible? Appreciate your response, thank you !
Love the videos, currently going to community college in Oregon learning diesel mechanics. On to my 2nd term. Thanks for the tips. My school has a partnership with snap-on where if you are a student you get about 50% off on all their tools for the 2 years you are in the program. Time to stock up on tools haha
1:15 if the fuel pressure regulator went bad would that cause an injector skip? I've been chasing an injector skip on cylinder 1 for a while now in my 2008 ford f650 tow truck
I'm doing a new exhaust seat number 5 cylinder. For some reason to drop the valve seat. Chewed up the top of the piston a few scratches in the cylinder. Trying to locate maybe a oversized piston for that cylinder. Does anybody know if they sell oversize Pistons?
Ive got a GMC C7 moving truck broken down in Columbus OH. Looking for a reliable and honest mechanic... Any direction or assistance would be greatly appreciated.
ok....subscribed! been watching your videos for 3 nights now! my 2005 f650 rollback is down. was driving down the road accelerating and went dead....engine just shut down...coasting along just windmilling. towed back to shop started checking simple stuff first....found the fuel in the tank was dark, couldn't even see light through it. did some research and found this could happen because of bad o-rings on the injectors. changed O-rings reinstalled injectors...still no start! pumping primer pump and heard fuel running back into tank...thought fuel pressure regulator was stuck open...replaced it and still no start! disconnected fuel line from primary filter to transfer pump, put line in a jug full of clean diesel...primed about 20 times ,still no start. hooked up fuel pressure gauge , pumped primer about 20 times again, builds pressure up to about 50 pounds with primer and then bleeds down....can hear fuel running back to tank. crank engine, no pressure...thinking transfer pump...any ideas before I buy a new transfer pump and should I change the heui and the transfer pump together? oh and I had read 2 codes on the check engine flashing light....26 and 39
+James Conarton Alright, thanks for watching. So the oil consumption was probably the HEUI oil getting pushed into the fuel tank and then getting burned. So hopefully by getting the injector seals changed fixed that. If you aren't building any fuel pressure, you've already change the regulator and ran it out of the bucket then it sounds like the transfer pump is the next on the list. The transfer pump can be changed without changing the HEUI pump, but you'll want to remove the HEUI pump off the engine to do it. The HEUI pump is about 5x as expensive as the transfer pump, so if the HEUI pump is okay I would definitely reuse it. The transfer pump has a special bolt that comes with it to hold the pump together when you change it so be careful. Let me know what you find. Is the tach showing a signal?
ok update...the bolt on the front was almost all the way out and the gear was hanging off.! is this common and do you think this is our only problem? do we just reinstall it or is there a special process? and also thank you for the quick response!
Just came across your video, very helpful We were supposed to buy a RV that was advertised to have a 300 hp Cummins but found out it had the 350hp C7. Should we pass on this MH because of the C7?
Hi josh, I have 2005 cat c7 in Kenworth t300 with allison automatic transmission. The engine runs good however every time Iam fully stopped in gear, my engine rpm fluctuates between 700-800 rpm. Any Help Would be really appreciated. Thanks
I am working on a C7 on a bus and I am getting a active and inactive injector mechanical no response code. Does that call for a injector replacement right off the bat? or should I do the fuel verification test? and other tests that you may recommend???? any and all help that you can give would be greatly appreciated
Did the BAE military JLTVs in the 2007 to 9 range get the screwy C7 with the S or were they the good old fashioned ones? It's says they were 2007 EPA compliant. Would hope with their multifuel requirement the defense department would get the engines without the emissions noose. Been web searching and I'm not smart enough to find it.
can you help me I have a CAT engine that will not start in warm weather unless you plug the block heaters in but in the cooler weather it will start without the block heaters plugged in wondering if anybody can tell me what may be wrong with this thing no mechanics around here can figure it out
I am having starting problems with a 3208 CAT, starting with easy start but not on it's own, trying to find glow plugs or heating element but can't see them anywhere, DOES IT HAVE THEM ?
Other then injectors leaking fuel, have you experienced any other failures with the head or pump leaking fuel? Looking at a truck, but it has fuel in the oil. Betting its an injector. (Well hoping, don't know)
I have a rear engine bluebird, c7. What oil should I use on this engine. Am I reading it correctly, I'm pretty sure it said 10W30..?? All the videos I see guys are using 15W40..help!!!
Cam follower failures, What has been determined to cause the roller pin to dislodge?? Noting common failures is great, even better is knowing the CAUSE and the FIX. TKS, John
+William Skelton Usually you'll determine the cause when Cat brings out an updated part number with a different design, as far as I know, no design updates as of yet.
I've got a 2006 f750 with the c7 in it. I'm leaking power steering fluid and breaking is stiffening up. Do you think I can refill the fluid reservoir and get my truck to a shop 15 miles away?
+MrHorhell Depends on how bad the leak is, as long as you can keep fluid in it you should be able to make it, but if you are losing brakes it is safest to have it towed or fixed.
Hi, just bought a F750 bucket truck with the C7 ,159k miles. Truck was repossession and had sat in a holding yard for 15 months. Was turned in voluntarily and truck was running and hydraulics/bucket all operating. Getting it towed to my mechanics yard for start up and repair. What are some things to watch out for in a truck sitting this long and not running. Not abused or uncovered just sitting. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks RC
+ralph campisi That's a long time to not start an engine, would probably say to try and tap into the oil rail and pump fresh oil through the engine, then change the oil and filters, dump in fresh fuel, prime the fuel system, probably need new batteries, but other than that you don't need to do anything special.
I have a 2008 f650 with a cat c7s engine that will not manually regen, the cat dealership says it's the ard head, but my question is could it be the fuel supply going to the ard head. When it starts the manual regen it will try for a few minutes before it fails. There is an ard after treatment nozzle that was corroded and it fell off when checking it. Would it make sense that the other lines could be plugged or corroded and not allowing the regen process to complete?
adept . I have a 3126 rv engine that has flodded the oil pan with diesel and rand for 1 hour. should entire engine be rebuilt due to dilution? it has pretty good blow by
As the CAT C7 does not have O2 sensors, what sensors does it use to do the same job as the O2 Sensor? Thank you for the wonderful and informative videos. They are an great help.
+W. Simpson An O2 sensor is more of an automotive gas engine sensor than a Diesel engine sensor. Since a gas engine has to run at a nearly constant fuel ratio it needs the sensor to fine tune the ratio. A Diesel on the other hand nearly always runs lean with a wide range fuel to air ratios. This is why a Diesel doesn't need an O2 sensor. There are nitrogen oxide sensors on newer diesels, but they are for testing the SCR catalyst system and egr, but they are not tied with the fuel ratio the same way an O2 sensor is.
C7 in a cat 324D Excavator, I have a oil leak, it looks to be coming from behind the engine computer, looks like some sort of inspection plate? Maybe for the push rods? Are those known to leak? I need to remove the computer to really see whats going on, but im kinda just look for some input, or is there something else that might be leaking that im not seeing with computer in place? Engine has 12k hrs on it.
Hi I’ve a 2003 motor home with a C7 cat 300 hp diesel pusher, on a freight liner chassis. But I stop cranking the engine few years back and it only has 14,000 Miles, but now it won’t fired up. Any suggestions
Hello, I hope you can help! I have a 350hp C7 in a motor home that keeps derating from over heating. I've been told that the waste gate is frozen shut. The shop is dicking around with it on the engine with no results. I have friends who had the same problem but theirs was corrected at Cat shop. What is your take on this? My area Cat shop is out of this world $$$$ Help...............
So I have a 3126 in my class A RV and noticed that there is an electrical line that comes out of the block and plugs into a 120V outlet. What is that for? If I leave it plugged in it trips my GFCI outlet as it is on its load path. Thanks in advance.
I'm not sure where I should as this question. I bought a military truck with a CAT 3116. The state/age of the fuel in the tank is unknown. Would you put any additives in the tank to ensure there are no algae or other issues ? Also, what do you think of DieselKleen diesel additive? Thanks!
+urgentcareguy3 I'm not familiar with that brand, but it's probably a biocide for black algae. Best is to dump the old fuel change the filters and then run the engine a good long trip. The fuel gets pretty hot on a long run so it will kill most stuff in the system, then change the filters again.
Question about the c7. I have a cat 963c track loader that has the c7 in it. It has very nicely landed a present in my lap by presenting itself a valve drop....... My question to you is can I use cylinder heads and blocks off on-highway applications by just switching over all the stuff? New heads are almost non-existent and the ones I did find are around 5k Any information on using the block and head from an on-highway application to an off-highway application would be greatly appreciated
Awesome Videos, valuable information. Quick Question. Can I program an ECM by copying the files off another ECM with same cat C15 engine, first 3 digits of serial # are the same SDP , only difference is o.ne has an Ultrashift Transmission and the other is a manual transmission.
+Moytech Yes you can, it's called copy configuration in ET. You would still have to program the injectors, serial number, and whatever parameters are different such as the transmission.
Great Video's! I just bought a 2003 Peterbilt 330 SA dump truck with a Cat 3126B. My Water Temp gauge on the pannel does not work but my ECM see the water temp. Do they have more than one water temp sensor on the engine? One for Gauge and one for ECM?
Good evening friend Adept, I have a query for you regarding a CAT C7. There is some way to lower fuel consumption in one of these engines is the only CAT C7 of the fleet the others are Cummins ISB but are more economical when it comes to fuel expenditure. My question in particular is if you can do something with CAT ET to decrease fuel expenditure. In advance thanks and blessings
+José Antonio Díaz Serpas Hmmmmm well, the only thing in ET that would affect fuel consumption is horsepower. You could rerate the engine for less horsepower, but other than that it would be make it more aerodynamic or drive slower to save fuel.
I have a 3126B on my F-350 truck, I replace the inyectors seals because I have oil into the fuel system and after I replace the seals it still passing oil, should I have to replace inyectors cups? What is the chance to have a head crack on this engines?
all valuable information.......does the C7 have the plastic plugs to keep the gudgeon pin in?.....and is it possible to read error codes without a Cat laptop?
Any chance you could tell why I'd be getting a code 102 07-13 turbo waste gate issue. We applied air pressure to the waste gate and it open and closed. What else should we look for? FYI, I'm getting a buzzer and stop engine and check engine lights when pushing done on the accelerator. 2005 Cat C7 in a Itasca Meridien.
i might have missed it in the video, but what motor oil does the c7 like to use? i assume Rotella is popular, but t4 mineral oil, or t5/t6 synthetic? i'm working on a 2007 freightliner rv style medium-duty truck with like 100k miles
+daft nord You can use 15w40 or 10W30 depending on the temperature range the engine operates in. I'm not a Shell or Rotella guy, either one is fine. Synthetic is best of course, but very expensive.
Hello sir I have a c7 in my bucket truck today it would not start after showing up to a job it cranks and everything like normal we sprayed a little starting fluid and it fired right up and ran like normal no issues just doesnt start on it's own idk if you may know what the problem is any help is greatly appreciated
Looking at 03 Chevy 6500 with the c7..was told the motor was rebuilt at some point...truck has 218k miles I believe or 280k. But with rebuild, 100k miles...there is oil in the coolant but there isn't any coolant in oil. What do you think? Possible cooler, cracked head somewhere?
Around my GMC 7500 K to the scanner and he said he had a high oil pressure voltage hi that’s what he has said on the sensor so but I don’t know what’s wrong with you can you recommend something in the video or tell me what to do or where the sensor is located at the video but I can’t
