I had an ipod nano touch because I had tiny child hands because I wanted it to look cool cuz I thought it was the same as the iphone or ipod touch but was let down doo much, now I despise apple products
Zachary Tribou well that’s just stupid why didn’t you just just research Apple iPod nano, you shouldn’t despise them just because you thought that you should buy one before doing any research or even looking at the images
@@plzdonhack I'm getting my hands on a second gen mini and I'm looking into getting a refurbished 5.5 classic from someone off reddit. Hoping I can get it turned into a bee too.
@@EpicB That’s pretty cool! Well, I’ve heard nothing but good experiences with the 5.5Gen, I have even fixed one for someone else myself. My 4th gen and 5th Gen Classics are allegedly dead so lets see if firewire jump start would work on them. Got em both for 30 usd
Your terabyte vid inspired me to do one, got a 5th gen vid, upgraded battery, got iflash duo and a 256gb SDcard. Love it. 2700 CD quality songs, not a single mp3 not even half full. Named it Dankpod in honor of the inspiration. Keep it up Donk. RIP Bluetooth Boi.
Great video, I just bought a second gen Mini! Tip: Sometimes online when you are looking for a Mini, the photos are too low resolution to read the year it was made. If it has the capacity written on the back, it's a second gen. If it's not written on the back, it's a first gen. The capacity is much easier to see, so even in a low resolution photo you can tell if it has the capacity written or not.
I watched this video and the next day I found a blue 2nd gen mini in the recycling at my job. I can't wait to use iFlash on it and add a new battery. :)
I have Spotify on my phone. But these videos really want to make me crank out my iPod Classic, redownload the music tracks from iTune's wonky app and just... Re-live the 2000's and constantly buying 0.99c songs
The iPod Mini 2G is literally the greatest iPod ever. Small, light, and they used the incredible IBM Microdrive which at the time implied Apple MIGHT have been making them AT A LOSS. Rumors suggested photographers were picking them up on sale to get the 4GB Microdrives cheaper than they were sold individually. Also, the drive adapter pops off the board too, so just pull it off (gently) rather than trying to do what you did of wiggling the Microdrive out.
More than likely they got a deal with IBM, who early in the computer scene had a virtual monopoly on those sorts of bits and bobs because of patenting and shit
Glad to know I’m not the only one in that fan club, I actually sent Bosnianbill a lock that he hadn’t seen before and he he sent me back a few locks and some picks
Xcizior dude it’s so easy to make your own picks, as a locksmith apprentice I am a master at it, all you need is a bench grinder and windshield wipers, remove the blade of the windshield wiper and pull out the metal on the inside works every time another thing I use, is if you go to Harbor Freight, pick up a feeler gauge set it’s like $4 and take the set apart and draw your pick design on there and grind it down boom you have some picks, if you want to talk more about it here is my Instagram @kai52542004 then we can talk more through there.
I'm so glad I found your channel. Because of your channel, I now have a pink ipod mini with basically every song I know of and then some, and it still has about 100 GB left for future music. It's such a good daily driver for music
This guy.. this guys videos are one ov the best on here coz it’s so entertaining. 1. Humour 2. Detailed 3. Lengthy 4. Funny edits (refer back to 1) Pls don’t change this recipe nor the iPad everything is done on
These are fake credits This is just a joke I am just typing words. These will be moving so fast That only peole who Pause the video Are going to read this. You know who you are, I see the comments. Time stamping stuff they see hidden Throughout the video. Bravo. THere are no prises for reading this. Adobe isn't even cropping this for me as I type so if there are heaps of mistakes from this point onwards, well there is nothing that can be done. Editing takes a long time aye. Like 30 mins to film, 4 hours to edit. Even this lame joke I am doing took a few minutes to get working. Especially since Adobe is a garbage fire of a professional video editing suite. eggs.
I never would have thought it was that simple. A month after watching I found a broken one and was able to diagnose it without help because of this video. Thanks!
This may sound weird but secret weapon for getting them open for me is to use feeler gauges it doesnt scratch it bend it and you can open them in like 2 minutes
I love my Mini. Sounds great and feels the best to hold out of all of my iPods. Something about that round casing, it just feels like it was made to be held.
Thanks for the vids! With your help I pulled a Lazarus on my 2004 4th gen monochrome LCD. Popped in a new battery and an iFlash double SD card mod kit with 256 GB card and it works great with 236 Gb actual capacity. Loads of space for tunes and great battery life. Love it!
I use a set of sanding pads called "Micro Mesh" and followup with Plastex. Wet sand with all 12 pads in order, hit it with some plastex, and it looks alright.
DankPods By the way, I have never heard of these iPod Classics before, I saw a video what was made by you. I’ve ordered a used 6th Gen. for daily use, and now it is my favorite device. Thank you for making these videos for us! ✌️
This has inspired me to get a mini and mod it, the amount of people on ebay claiming theirs is a 2nd gen and they're 1st is incredible so thanks for pointing out the difference!
You’ve inspired me to buy an iPod mini to flash mod it, I’d love to collect all of the generation iPods to just own and mod. I love watching your vids man. Keep it up 🤘🏻
I’ll definitely give the mini a consideration! I just got a 4th Gen and I plan to modify it with a CF card adapter. It isn’t the same fancy kind of adapter sold by iFlash, but maybe someday if I get a nicer iPod I’ll get an iFlash board. For now though, if this mod works I’ll have an iPod to use in my car as a dedicated music hub.
I owned a 5.5 gen iPod, but the screen died and I gave it to a friend like 10+ years ago. The last MP3 player I used was my Zune HD. At the end, I was just using it for podcasts, which I started doing on my phone so I stopped carrying the Zune. That was 5+ years ago. Then a friend introduced me to your channel for headphones, I found this and the other iPod videos and... ended up going to Ebay, buying a set of busted iPod Minis (which they sadly aren't giving away anymore), a new battery, the iFlash SD to CF adapter, and a new microSD card. I am now the proud owner of a 256GB iPod mini loaded with all my music in lossless and I still have 90GB left over. So I said all that to say... Thanks for inspiring me to do a quick, easy DIY and be able to enjoy the results.
I remember getting one of these for christmas when i was 7 years old and playing those mini games for hours man these minis bring back so many memories
I hooked up my flash drive (32GB) 2nd gen mini to my 2009 Ford Flex Limited through the dock to USB port last week for the first time, and it synced up and showed the name of the song and artist and FF/REW/Pause/play/volume all worked through the car including voice command. Well, you know what's living in the Flex from now on.
Idk if mr dankpods will see this comment but I've watched your content since 2019 and I have finally invested into two ipod minis, one for use and another for collecting as it is in perfect condition with its original box and accessories. I don't regret it one little bit! These nuggets hold up really well considering the age on them and now I've realised how fun the clickwheel iPods are! (I had only owned ipod touches prior). Thanks mate for the content its always a blast to watch :)
This channel has legit made me buy a 7th gen classic. But I have been having trouble downloading songs on it. Would love a vid on that. I love you dank.
DankWade I just modded my 3rd gen classic with the iFlash Solo with 128GB with seemingly no issues (so far). Wouldnt be here without your vids. The monochromes are for sure more visible but man, theres just something so polished, so clean with the color displays. I remember seeing and holding my brothers first gen Na-no. Hard to argue with the classic Macintosh Chicago font though.
Got myself a metal 6th gen with a busted HDD as I wanted one of them schmexy new ones to contrast my older iPods. Gonna need some blades to get into it, lord have mercy Update: I was blessed and with some hard work the exacto method worked, and it actually proved to be not toooooo bad (depending on your definition of pain)
@@DankPods I'd settle for 1Gb frankly if it made the thing easier to crack, not sure if you've ever tried sacrificing storage to the iGods but will let you know how it goes
Me: Wow, this would be really cool to be my first electronics mod and to have a dedicated music player Me: *goes on ebay to find they're now like 30 bucks each for a meh condition one* Me: *looks at video date and realises this video probably made the prices go up* Me: *catches the sadds*
@@snughug1181 let me know how that goes just orders myself a first gen but the storage is awful so I’ll need to mod it but it’s stated it only works on 2nd gens.
You got me back into iPods and repairing them in the past few years. I use my mini at work so I’m not bothered by notifications and so I don’t drain my phone throughout the day. With ssd storage and a new battery, my mini will last me all week.
You reminded me of my old blue iPod mini from ages ago. I dropped it one day and left it to rot and now I really want to find it to bring it back to life. iPods were my jam back in the days.
I bought one of these at Goodwill years ago. Its a 2nd Gen Mini, but the HP version. Unfortunately the screen is starting to go out, but the rest of it is in great shape. I think it was a good buy for $20 in 2014.
Personally I prefer the aluminium of the 7th gen The U2 ones are cool too, with the black back and the red on the front, or the gold. It's damn slick looking.
Thank you so much for this video! I've purchased a good used mini 2. gen, replaced the battery and exchanged the micro drive with a 64 gb micro SD card.
I love how when Hugh Jefferys opened some of these later on he was very critical of the design and how difficult it is to open, and Mr. Pods here is just like 'this is so fun you guys' like he's just having a fun time
Honestly, the Minis are probably my favorite. Best compromise between the Nano and the full-size bois with none of the drawbacks, like the Nanos battery/screen issues over time. When you consider the modding potential, it's amazing how cheap they are to find. Maybe I'm biased because my first iPod back in ye olden days was a first gen puke green Mini.
I actually got a 1st gen blue Pod mini with a dead hdd for free and I thanks to your video I opened it myself and I put a 64gb cf card, now it's my daily MP3 player with almost 3000 songs on it! I love these old minis and I even got a compliment from another iPod fan in public! I also have a silver 2nd gen but it has the go 4bg hard drive (maybe upgrading it at some point)! thanks to your awesome channel there's now an iPod mini that lives again!
Hi Dankpods, After watching your channel I thought I'd do it myself. I took a risk and modded my 30gb 5.5gen ipod and put 448gb in it (which for some reason is 416gb in apple maths) . My library is only 18,200 tracks but 13,500 of them are large ALAC files from my CD collection so that's about 350gb, the rest are mp3s but everything has artwork. My ipod could cope with all 350gb of my alac files but started having trouble with all the mp3s as well and it didn't like showing album artwork unless it was rebooted after syncing. It maxed out at around 17,000 tracks with a few issues. So I wondered if I could make it all work perfectly. Luckily I managed to find a cheap 80gb 5.5gen, I took the back cover and front cover off my 30gb (I thought I'd use my front cover as I know where that's been), got a new battery and combined it all together. So now I have a monster slimline 448gb 5.5gen ipod that works like a dream, it'll even play the few old music videos I have and it has 30gb of space left over. And yes it shuffles. Thanks for the inspiration.
I can say I’ve been subbed since you were at 3k. But that was like 6 hours ago or something. Congrats man! Also hear you talking about CD quality. I currently use a FiiO to play my FLAC collection on the go. Would love a video talking about FLAC and ALAC options with iPods on Rockbox and official firmware.
5:53 Oh my banana. This is the first time I know you can turn on and off the back light of a iPod by holding the menu button! I’ve been use my second hand iPod 4 for a while. And every time I need to switch the backlight say I charge this thing beside my bed. I either need to sorting out where the menu are in the dark or let the backlight flash my eyes to blind! Thank you my generous dude to let me know that!
