Yep, it's sucked to be a Bulls fan since MJ left. Jay Williams crashes on a motorcycle, both prime Kobe and LeBron seriously considered coming in free agency and went elsewhere, D Rose arguably the most athletically gifted player under 6'4 in the history basketball and potentially the future face of the NBA has a steady string of debilitating leg injuries that ruin his prime before it even truly began, then we ran off /traded Jimmy, the best player besides Derrick that we've drafted in over 20 yrs by choosing an unproven coach over the only guy holding up the franchise, and now we've barely scratched the surface of relevancy ever since. 😐😑

You have to start asking questions of the Bulls S&C/doctors/player development though, with Rose Deng Lonzo suffering these major injuries and players like Jimmy Lauri WCJ blossoming when they leave Chicago. For Lonzo's sake I'd like to see him with a team that has proven it knows what it's doing with touchy injuries and doesn't have pressure for him to come back ASAP

With the new CBA and the insane amount of talent in the NBA, the middle is about to evaporate. There's going to be 6 bottom teams, maybe 6 top ish teams, but I think the league is moving towards parity and a very exciting product where every team has talent and a chance. The question of "does this make you top 5 in the east?" Doesn't seem fair bc if the Bulls are slightly better, they can compete for the finals. The Heat just made it, NYK beat CLE despite the crazy talent CLE has. Bulls gel slightly better and they are in the mix, or if they make a slight roster improvement. The Lonzo Caruso defense was great, healthy scoring from Lavine DeRozan. There was a lot to like. Run away title favorites will be a thing of the past soon

the vucevic trade is funny because when we traded for him it was his 2nd all star season in 3 years, having a career season averaging 25/12/4 and shooting over 40% from 3. i felt good about the trade at the time (like a lot of bulls fans did), you figure the picks don’t matter because you hope you’re a top 3 seed adding someone with those numbers, but it just didn’t work out anywhere near the level we all hoped, but if you’re a gm you gotta be willing to make those moves and live with the results.

The 2 worst moments post the Jordan era were the Bulls breaking up the Brand-Artest-McGrady core that we had in the palm of our hands for Jalen Rose-Eddy Curry-Tyson Chandler & screwing Scott Skiles by trading away his guy LaMarcus Aldridge and then firing Skiles the next season. I would take a redo of those 2 situations unquestioned over any other redo because they were incredibly moronic choices at the time and only look worse now in hindsight.

I like the fact that they talked about the Bulls (I am a long time Bulls fan), but I didn't think there was anything new here. And they released this right before they re-signed Vuc and, while I know what they would have said about that move, it would have been interesting to hear them opine on why the Bulls did that. The Bulls are in a bad spot - not bad enough to get the top pick, but not good enough to compete - so I am curious to see what they do because if they run it back, its hard to see how they are better. If they blow it up, what are the options?

I look at the bulls, and I see so many great players. Why aren’t they a top 3 regular season team? We’ve seen all these listed players have great months or seasons . Demar’s game is so smooth and masterful, he’s like a 6’6” older Jalen Brunson. Zach really is amazing ball player and Vuc helps on a lot of levels of the score and can score at a very high level percentage: and all there pieces like Caruso and White and so on. Bulls need a leader:
@odonnellcaleb
@odonnellcaleb Год назад
Unfortunately our big 3 players don't mesh all that well. Zach Lavine is at his best when he's slashing towards the hoop. Which coaches try to encourage by pulling their bigs out and clearing the lane. It's why we sat Lauris butt behind the 3 pt line every game he played for us. It's probably why we never saw his potential. It takes Vuc away from the block. He's very capable of shooting out to the 3 point line but he's usually at his best when he gets rolling down low early. DeMar and Zach both need the ball in their hands...and it's especially bad late in games. DeMars first season was so crazy with game winners they I think he plays hero ball all the time late in games...which usually means Zach and Vuc are doing nothing. Our best young players are stuck behind vets who score. Patrick Williams is clearly much better at playing 3 than 4. He's not being aggressive enough on offense and although he's great on D he can get really bullied by guys like Jaren Jackson Jr and Evan Mobley. Coby White looked like he took a big step last season but he's behind Lavine and Alex Caruso...Coby White could be a 20ppg scorer if we went into rebuild mode and I think he would really benefit from being the focus. One upside has been his defense has improved because otherwise he wouldn't have been allowed on the court. And worst of all the Bulls have absolutely ZERO rim protection. Zach's an average defender after, DeMar isn't guarding anyone any more. On the other end, what has also really hurt us, is with DeMar we really aren't shooting enough 3s. We actually have some great shooters with Zach, Coby, and PWill (who has quietly been a 40% 3 pt shooter in his career). We just don't shoot them enough. We have dudes but we don't have dudes whose game compliment each other. We have log jams in some positions and completely empty in others. We really don't have a 4 on our team at all and our 5s don't defend. Our front office has fallen victim to the sunk cost fallacy. This team is old and is in no danger of becoming contenders. But because we gave up so much to try and win right away our FO is afraid to look foolish by going to a rebuild again.

1. There iß a point made at 21:42, about how Zach closing out games "can't be a pop quiz (every so many games)...at some point it's got to be a consistent test." - Parenthesis mine That's not a correction you make for a 28 year-old, who has had ALL THE TIME THAT DEROZAN WAS NOT HERE to prove this. This is a correction you make for those high picks that are YOUNG, like. Coby and Pat, so that, if it works out, you have a Tatum and Brown, or a Stef and Klay, or a Durant and Westbrook (who werent legendary names before being given the chance to prove themselves either!). [This is why the Bulls overlooked Lauri. They were too in love with Zach's atheticism to not realise he was not a #1 talent, causing them to marginalise, and even trade away, promising young talent for 'proven' (whoops!) players.] Then, if you hit you get SUSTAINED SPAN OF CONTENTION instead of trying to use the sunset years of ageing players trying to see if you can get lucky and eek one out. If you dont, you're bad enough to get another high pick. This is how Philly got Embiid after a BUNCH of misses. Its how San Antonio got, and moved on from, DeJounte Murray. Now they have Wemby. This upcoming season will be Zach's last in his 20s. He'll be 30 in...what?...19 months? Simmons is right. He'll never be worth more than this, and it goes without saying that DeMar and Vucecic aren't worth as much as Zach on the trade market.

It’s a franchise that is satisfied with being mediocre. Are they actually going to run it back with a 10th seed? Pathetic. Nothing will change until that POS owner sells or croaks.

Could've traded all these mfs beginning of season and had a shot at Wemby or Scoot now your stuck as a 7-8 th seed or a slightly outside the lottery team.... pat Williams and coby white could actually be good players but your holding them back with this type ish

I disagree with "you never want to be in the middle".. I think young teams like OKC, Houston, etc. could really benefit from building into a contender from the middle. I think what Bill was trying to say is you don't want to sell the farm to be in the middle, and it feels like that's what Chicago did with the Vuc trade
@jwoodfill14

OKC & Houston are sort of in the “middle” but they have a ton of young talent and assets, whereas the bulls do not

OKC and Houston do not want to be in the middle. They are expecting their young guys to get better. Young teams can have that expectation. But when your core are who they are, and you are a play in team, there isn't much expectation of getting better. Fit also matters. Making a sideways trade, that makes the team make sense, can lead to better results. If I'm the Bulls, I got to get rid of Derozan. Make Zach the guy, clear up the midrange for Vuc, and go from there. Hell, Herro might be good on the Bulls as a secondary scorer behind Lavine, whereas Derozan gets to clog up the lane in Miami.
