It pisses me off. I love the "first" movie because it's nostalgic and doesn't stray far from the book. Prince Caspian is a travesty, and the ending of Voyage was completely redone. The series should have never been made the way it was and the directors planned it terribly. I will explain: Book 1: The Magician's Nephew never got a movie. It's about a young boy named Diggory with a magical uncle who created rings that can take you to a magic forest with pools of water. The pools take you to a different world and one of the is a planet with a dying sun. There Diggory finds Jadis the ice witch. He accidentally takes her to Narnia while it is being created by Aslan. Jadis runs away and goes into hiding in Narnia. As a punishment, Aslan makes Diggory go find a magical apple tree and bring him an apple and when Diggory comes back with the apple, he gets to take it home back to our world where his mother is dying. He gives his mom the magic apple to eat and heal her and then plants the apple core. The apple grows into a tree and is chopped down and made into a wardrobe many years later. There's other stuff in this but that's not important for this rant. Book 2: The lion the witch and the wardrobe. The first movie smfh. So we get the 4 siblings staying with an old professor (Diggory!!) and you know what happens.... Book 3: The horse and his boy. This book happens IN THE WORLD OF NARNIA DURING THE TIME THE 4 ROYALS ARE ADULTS IN NARNIA!!!!! I will forever be angry that the best book of the series didn't get a movie 👿👿👿! They should have been separate (but similarly looking) casts for the age differences but it was planned so badly. Book 4: Prince Caspian... The way they utterly butchered this movie is horrendous and shameful. Caspian was supposed to be like... 12 and he had NO romance plot. I don't even wanna go into it or else this comment will be 3x longer. Book 5: Voyage of the Dawn Treader. While this was much better than Prince Caspian I'm still very disappointed. Book 6: The silver chair: Okay so no more movies. Eustace, the annoying cousin come to Narnia with a girl and she falls down a cliff? mountain? idk... He goes on an adventure to retrieve her Book 7: The last battle. I'm a little fuzzy on this book but it's probably better than the whole movie franchise.

the fact that the white witch haunts Edmond all three movies shows what an impact she had on him and the turning point in his life. and it's honestly so sad that he still carries the trauma from that
@NilahLach
@NilahLach Год назад
That's kind of the great thing though about Aslan. He reminds Edmond that just because he was traumatized and made mistakes, doesn't mean he has to hold onto them anymore. The devil is a liar, and a great one at that, who steals and destroys. In this case, Aslan (God) reminds us that we are no longer what we once were and can be made whole again. Kind of beautiful if you ask me!

Real talk -- during WW2 in England there was strict rationing. That means no sugar. That means no sweets. I suspect there were many children who would have thought it a fair trade to sell out their siblings for some candy. (bad news for Edmund -- despite his character growth, sugar rationing didn't end for another 13 years).
@sclt2269
@sclt2269 2 года назад
Absolutely agree with this. Also, to add to this, the sweets appear really to be used symbolically. Edmund feels disconnected and not included or valued in his family before coming to Narnia, of course he would gravitate towards someone who shows him signs of preference or care (sweets). Though I suspect for Lewis it was more biblical reflecting greed, gluttony and valuing of the material as a sin.

The whole point of Narnia (in my opinion) is about growing up, it's a coming of age, and the author wrote the series to teach children to value childhood and fairytales before they inevitably go as humans age, Susan and Peter left Narnia after having one great ride, because they're adults now :)

Notes for the first movie: The professor was one of the two original children to go to Narnia and they were there when Narnia was first created by Aslan (In the book 'The Magician's nephew'). The wardrobe works like it does, because it is made from the wood of a tree from Narnia. Notes for the second movie: The humans near the beginning are from an empire that is within Narnia as a whole (these humans are known as Calormenes in later books, I believe, but are known as Telmarines earlier on). Notes for the third movie: Aslan's country is essentially the equivalent to the afterlife. Also, Aslan is one of the forms of God (from the Christian faith, just to clarify).

I think the calormenes and the telmarines are different people - speicifcally since the calromens have their own country while the telmarines only think they had a home country and then turns out they're descendants from pirates. almost feel sorry for them for learning that, thinking that they're from one place when really they're not from any place really.

Here’s a timeline for Narnia: narnia.fandom.com/wiki/Narnian_timeline Warning Spoilers… But, basically all the humans in Narnia are descendants from people who originally were from our world. However, keep in mind, the people from our world includes only the following: 1) Frank a cabby driver from England year 1900 (exactly) and his wife Helen. They became the first King and Queen of Narnia. They accidentally are transported into Narnia as they get caught up in the adventure of Polly and Digory who are the protagonists of The Magician’s Nephew book. Frank and Helen stay in Narnia while Digory and Polly (who are unrelated children) go back home to England. Digory becomes The Professor who Peter, Susan, Lucy, and Edmund meet in The Lion, The Witch, and The Wardrobe. Digory is never a King of Narnia. But, they (the children protagonists Digory and Jill, and the adults who accidentally get pulled into their adventure too, Frank and Helen) all witness the literal creation of Narnia. And basically, King Frank and Queen Helen’s descendants populate the land of Narnia in this fantasy world (and at this time they are the only humans in that world)-mainly their descendants live in Narnia (which is a land in the north of this world) as Kings and Queens but over time they branched out and one group of descendants formed a separate kingdom called Archenland, it’s slightly south of Narnia but still considered part of the north. A subgroup of people from Archenland who are outlaws flee and then establish the kingdom of Calormen which is in the south of this world and is across a desert. So Calormenes are descendants from King Frank and Queen Helen. 2) There is one other group of people who came from our world to Narnia and they were pirates who happened upon a rare cavern that had a magical link to Narnia. This is explained at the end of the Prince Caspian movie by Aslan. All humans in our world are considered by C.S. Lewis to be related to one another and all descendants from Adam and Eve from the Bible. So, C.S. Lewis makes it clear in Prince Caspian that all the people are considered worthy, equal to one another in this other world too. In Aslan’s eyes they are all children of Adam and Eve, and if they choose to be good people, are worthy to rule over Narnia. Caspian is a Telamarine, so he is a descendant from the group of pirates who came to Narnia from our world. The land of Telmar is to the West of Narnia. It’s a separate land from Narnia (which is to the north) and Calormen (which is to the south). None of the protagonists of the 7 books in the Narnia series (the children who go to Narnia from 1900, Polly and Digory, to 1949, Eustace and Jill) stay in Narnia and have descendants-they all go back to our world before they get married to anyone in Narnia. In the last book, The Last Battle, Narnia falls by Calormen and certain Narnian animals making a deal together. Basically a certain evil plan is made between some Narnian animals and some people from the competing kingdom of men (again those who originally were descendants from King Frank and Queen Helen and were the outlaws who fled from Archenland. They’re not the people from Telmar that originally were pirates from our world) from the nation to the south, Calormen, and Narnia falls. I won’t reveal the huge spoiler, but basically you learn about the afterlife in The Last Battle. And yes, Aslan’s country is a metaphor for the afterlife-not meaning the current land of Narnia. You will hear metaphors for Narnia though in other books such as The Horse and His Boy, where they say, To the north! Which means, let’s go to Narnia! Because it’s geographically located northernly in their world. There you go, that’s a brief history of this world. It’s far from complete but gives you a better understanding. Note: And Jadis, who is the White Witch, isn’t a human at all. She is from another world called Carne. Which you learn about also in The Magician’s Nephew. Technically the movies weren’t very clear or maybe accurate with the White Witch because she’s supposed to be very white-basically inhumanely so. Though, it is true that Jadis pretends to be human and (I can’t remember if they say it in the movie, but they do in the books) she tries to establish herself as being a legitimate ruler of Narnia by claiming to be human-although she’s not. It’s hard to explain-a lot of this comes from The Magician’s Nephew-but the original King Frank and Queen Helen who were Narnia’s first rulers and made rulers by Aslan and this was witnessed by all the animals at the creation of Narnia-it’s something that all the Narnian animals respect and basically they see as a qualification to rule Narnia, since it was what Aslan established at the beginning. So, that’s why Jadis says she’s human because to the animals that would give weight to her claim to the throne. But of course they know it’s a lie and so they never accept her as a legitimate Queen of Narnia.

Lucy represents the faith, she's the only one who sees Aslan sometimes because of that. Edmund represents the sinner, that tasted how it is to be on the devil side and only find out suffering in his path, but got back to the familys side and redeemed himself and fought against the devil. Susan is an unbeliever, she tries to be logical all the time and don't believe in things even when she sees them, but still thinks she's the smartest. Peter I guess it would be the idea of a christian, he's loyal, a natural leader and cares about his people. He's brave, has his doubts as a normal believer, and as such, he will always be the first to fight for what he believes. Actually Peter it's kinda hard to unpack tbh. Everyone knows who's the real magnificent here, LUCY THE QUEEEEEEEEEEEEEEN.

Peter is actually more like biblical John. Loyal and a leader, but a 'son of thunder' and had to learn to wait on God and not be hot-headed. Susan is more like the rich young ruler and Nathaniel, who liked Jesus but were more interested in worldly things. Edmund is most like the disciple Simon Peter, because he betrayed his own and then was restored stronger than ever. He parallels Judah a little in that sense, but Edmund repents. Lucy is a little like John as well, but mostly she represents the childlike faith we should have. Eustace is definitely Paul, in that he is staunchly against all of it until God himself ails him physically and reproved his unbelief. Idk about Caspian, but he also seems Pauline and maybe a little Davidic, in that he was a traveler and was almost killed for the throne.

I remember I saw a clip from the third movie's ending where Aslan says "in your world, I have another name, you must learn to know me by it" and I was like "wait a minute...." after a quick google search I found this >>> Aslan is an allegorical representation of Jesus Christ in the Christian religion. The novel's depiction of Christ's death and resurrection is a clear allusion to the biblical story of the crucifixion and resurrection of Jesus.

Just a little sad fact, in the ending books, tragically, most of the Pevensie family passed away (even Eustace) due to a train wreck and Susan not being on the train survived, and basically everyone who passed went to Narnia. Its kind of a controversial thing fueled further by a few lines in the book that basically implied that Susan was too superficial and too much of a non- believer to reunite with them in Narnia. C. S. Lewis left it super ambiguous as to if she could find faith in Narnia again and return, hence Susan getting the absolute worst fate out of all her family and hence the controversy. He did plan to write about her life after the incident but he himself passed away before anything could be set in stone. It's super unfortunate most of us would have loved to have seen if there was more hope for her return to Narnia

@@LakiaJaiTV The Lion the Witch and the Wardrobe is definitely the best out of the seven (and was the one Lewis wrote first, but people kept demanding more so he wrote more) but the rest have some good writing in them and good stories as well (though they do get a little racist in some parts though I suppose that should be somewhat expected in texts written in the 1900s, if we're going to love something we have to admit the bad as well as the good). We even meet the white witch before she was the white witch. don't worry I won't spoil anything, apart from commenting that if someone who may have had the last person in the country to have any actual fairy blood tells you to destroy something then that's a pretty clear sign that you should destroy it. I've heard that Lewis was actually planning an 8th book to finish Susan's story (not saying what it is but some people reckon nowadays it was unfair how her story progressed but lewis did have a plan with that progression, and I think they were planning on doing as many of the 7 books as they could with the movie series because they kind of hint at it in Susans scenes in the second movie and on how they were going to rewrite her story), but he died before he could really get started on it so it's up to the fans to think up their own story for her.

Answering your question about how the White Witch became Queen of Narnia: when Aslan created the world of Narnia, he made the humans the rightful rulers of it. So when the Witch arrived at Narnia, she claimed that she was a human herself. But that's a lie. She looks human, but she's actually a descendant from both the giants and Lilith (a genie/demon and Adam's first wife before Eve). So there isn't a single drop of human blood in her veins.

Some little facts since I love Narnia and am living for you doing a commentary on these movies! 1) I went to the same university (obviously NOT at the same time!) as Ben Barnes (Caspian); he did drama with English and I did BA Hons drama. 2) The first two films were released under the Disney/Walden Media banner, the third one was released by 20th Century Fox though. Also, the first two films were directed by Andrew Adamson and the third by Michael Apted; Reepicheep has a different voice actor between films; I’m pretty sure there’s also a different composer between PC and VOTDT. 3) In the 15 years later at the end of LWW, the older version of Lucy is played by Rachel Henley, who is Georgie Henley’s (Lucy) real life older sister. 4) Skander Keynes’ voice dropped while filming the first Narnia so they brought his sister in to dub/mix his voice so it didn’t sound like it had broken. 5) Anna Popplewell is afraid of mice so they had to have a double for the scene where the mice chew through Aslan’s bonds. 6) Douglas Gresham, CS Lewis’ stepson, has a cameo in each film as well as being a co-producer. 7) In the first Chronicles of Narnia film, Georgie Henley's reactions when she emerges from the wardrobe into the snowy world are completely genuine. She was blindfolded and carried to the set when they filmed the scene, so both the actor and the character are seeing Narnia for the first time. 8) On the set of the first film, the kids made up a song called “Check the Gate”, to the tune of “Shake Ya Ass”/“Shake it fast” by Mystikal because Andrew Adamson would always say “check the gate” after a scene; the phrase is said in movie making to ensure that the camera and film is free of any impurities or blockages (a hair in the way, for instance) that would render what's been filmed unusable or call for another take. 9) In the last scene of the first movie, when Professor Kirke throws the cricket ball, it actually hit Skandar’s head during a take; you can see it on the blooper reel. 10) CS Lewis (who wrote the Narnia books) and JRR Tolkien (who wrote the Lord of the Rings trilogy/Middle Earth books) were friends in real life and wrote each other into their respective works: Professor Kirke is based on JRR Tolkien and Treebeard is based on CS Lewis. 11) Anna Popplewell was disappointed that Susan didn’t really get to use her now that much in the first film, so in the second one they had her using it a lot more. 12) A fourth film, The Silver Chair, was planned but didn’t happen due to issues regarding copyright and also the third film’s reception/box office I believe. Apparently Netflix is planning to adapt the Narnia books into a series, but there hasn’t been that much news on it yet. 13) At the end of VOTDT, you can hear Eustace’s mum mention that Jill Pole has come to visit; Jill and Eustace are the main protagonists of the book that follows Dawn Treader, The Silver Chair. Caspian also appears in TSC but he’s old and dying, and Jill and Eustace are looking for his son Prince Rillian.

Peter was the only one speaking facts for survival atm tbh. With how QUICKLY they needed to move and Susan tried to leave them defenseless on a VERY QUICKLY melting bridge, trying to deter them. I get that Peter can seem to be on them, I do think that somewhat has to do with his mom asking him to look out for them. As a kid, I understood his motivations was on his side, as a young adult, he did alot of unnecessary but realistic.

Also can we blame him? He himself was a kid. He knows there’s a war going on and there’s a chance they wouldn’t see their parents again. He tried to do everything he can to supervise his siblings, of course he can’t always be right. As a kid back then I think most of his actions were valid and wise for a kid.

Here are some Narnia details the movies left out :) - The Professor, when he was a kid, came to Narnia when Aslan sang its creation. He influenced a lot of things. you can read it in the Magician's Nephew. - The White Witch was from another universe, Charn, and came from the bloodline of Lilith, and a race of half-genie half giant people. She hates humans and pretends to be human because only humans can rule Narnia by right. - The four siblings titles of Magnificient, Gentle, Just and Valiant were earned in the books during their reign. - The 4 Siblings ruled for 15 years - its been 1300 years between 1 and 2 in Narnia, but only 1 year on Earth - Caspian does became king and lived till 66. He married the star. - Aslan physically scratches off Eustace's Dragon form and throws him in a pond. Timeline (Narnian Years) 1 - Creation. Digory (The Professor) witness Aslan sing Narnia to life. Aslan crowns a cab driver from Earth and his housewife as the first King and Queen. Diggory also brings with him the White Witch after accidentally bringing her into Earth and into Narnia. 898 - The White Witch returns to Narnia after her self-imposed exile, wipes the first humans out through exile or genocide. 900 - The long winter begins 1000 - the events of LWW, beginning of the Golden Age 1015 - the four kings and queens return to Earth, end of the Golden Age. Narnia soon falls under stewardship under its sister country, Archenland, or falls to disorder. 1998 - The Telmarines invade and conquer Narnia. Caspian I becomes King of Narnia. 2303 - Events of PC, Prince Caspian becomes King Caspian X of Narnia. 2306-7 - Events of VDT, Caspian brings home Lilliandil, Ramandu's Daughter. Caspian's descendants would be kings of Narnia till the end of time. Christian Parallels Hundred Year Winter - Years of Biblical Silence (between Malachi and the Gospels) or a life without hope and full of suffering Aslan's Sacrifice and Resurrection - The Gospels Caspian's War of Deliverance - Rise of the true faith over the corrupt religion/ David's road to kingship The Great Voyage - Spiritual Life and Sanctification Eustace's Undragoning - Repentance and Baptism Thank you for reacting to this series!! The Netflix's reboot series couldn't come sooner!!

It's also why we drive on the left in England, because it would be easier to draw your sword against an enemy if they were on the right side of you (if you're right-handed), but then some guy (i forget who, maybe Napoleon?) was left-handed, so he changed the side of the road and England is one of few countries that either refused or went back to the left after he died.

The most messed up thing about Narnia, something that bothered me when i first watched it as an adult, was the fact that they lived in Narnia for like 20-25 years? All of them lived out there lives, as fully grown adults and then they go back through the wardrobe and they're suddenly back in their child/teenager bodies again. Especially Lucy, like she's 8 years old, lives in Narnia until she’s in her late 20s, close to 30, and then goes back into her 8 year old body again with the matured mind of a 25 year old!

Loved your reaction! Caspian is still my crush after all this time. Fun fact about the accent. The director insisted that Ben Barnes go back to his normal accent for the last movie. Ben fought against the decision but was overruled. His accent was originally going to be based off Spanish but when the Telmarines were cast, many of the actors were italian so he shifted the accent to be a hybrid of Spanish and Italian and fit in better with them.

So I just wanted to explain some things for you! the professor AKA “Digory Kirke” is the magicians nephew he accidentally traveled to Narnia when he was a child that’s why when the kids come back through the wardrobe and Peter tells the professor “you wouldn’t believe us if we told you” & he replies “try me” it’s because he is literally the one person who would believe them. Another fun fact he is actually the reason the white witch was able to take over Narnia. The professor was the one who accidentally woke up the white Witch in the first place. The witch is from a different realm and she literally used and ancient spell called the deplorable word and when she spoke the deplorable word she basically Thanos snapped all living organisms on her planet out of existence including her own family and sister who she was fighting with for the crown to rule her planet but when there were no people to rule she used a spell to preserve herself until someone came and freed her which happened to be digory (the professor) also love the channel! ✌🏻

One of my favourite books in the series was The Horse and His Boy. Wherein there is a line (that I love) from Edmund who is advocating for mercy for their captured enemy that goes something like "even a traitor can mend. I have known one who did.". I think his Kindly name was The Just not because he was also just and fair in his past actions, but because he learned that mercy is a part of justice, an important part, and that justice is not always what we think it would it be. Because he learned from his past actions, he was more just, fair, and merciful than others might have been inclined to be. And I think that the interplay of past mistakes, learning from them, and justice and mercy working together is such an important lesson to learn. I know, 10 months late to the conversation. Just something that I was thinking about while watching.
@LisaRummel83

Also, yes, Ben Barnes had a bad wig in Prince Caspian. And was actually why I finally admitted that some guys looked better with beards in Voyage. And the third movie.... they didn't think the episodic nature of the book was good for a movie, so added the mist. But I thought it just made it messy. In the book, Caspian totally marries the star's daughter, which is fun. I was always sad they didn't do any of the other books with these actors. Even if the next one (The Silver Chair) wasn't my favourite of the books (I think it was my sister's?). And I forgot how much I had enjoyed the sound track in Prince Caspian, as well as giving the girls a bigger part! (Yeah, I still think you can tell when Lewis met his wife. He suddenly has the girls actually doing something in the books like Horse and His Boy, as compared to all the early books. haha)

@@LakiaJaiTV There's seven in all and the first and last of the series were the last to be written, to provide a definite beginning and end to the series and to define the world and build on the Christian allegory. They're all worth a read, but I think the best for pure adventure is Silver Chair. A Horse & His Boy is a little dated but is pure Arabian Nights fantasia and I kind of love it. Prince Caspian is one of the best written. Lion is imaginative but he's finding his feet as a writer. Magician's Nephew creates the world and codifies the witch as probably the best and most evil baddy of all time. Last Battle is INSANE.

Fun fact: the professor of the first movie actually does have a backstory. The first movie was based off the second book in the series, and the first book actually tells his story as a child, and how he’s connected with Narnia and the White Witch (also goes by the name Jadis in the books). He’s also the reason there’s a portal to Narnia in his home, it’s not by accident or happenstance. It was made from wood of a Narnian tree
@getshwifty3101
@getshwifty3101 2 года назад
So the movies never explain it. But the Professor was actually on Narnia when Aslan brought the world to life. Him and Macready were childhood friends. Find a box of 6 colored, paired rings. And they end up in Narnia during it's creation. When they finally got back home, they buried the rings at the foot of a tree. And then that tree was later cut down and made into the Wardrobe, which is why it's connected to Narnia.
