The professor didn’t know the wardrobe was magical. His name is Digory and when he was a little boy he went to Narnia when it was first created. Aslan told him that if he brought a special apple back to his mom that it would heal his mom because his mom was deathly ill. Digory did this and his mom got well, and with the apple he buried the seeds from it and it grew into a large apple tree. When the time came for Digory to move homes, he chopped down the tree and made it into a wardrobe, which is why he believed Peter and Susan when they told him Lucy went to a different world. 😊 (Super condensed, and that’s not what the Magicians Nephew is all about, but it’s a fantastic book!)

@joce-in-stitches
@joce-in-stitches 4 года назад
Technically, that is the chronological order, but not the original release order. Older box sets from when I was a kid number them 1) Lion, Witch and Wardrobe, 2) Prince Caspian, 3) Voyage of the Dawn Treader, 4) The Silver Chair, 5) The Horse and His Boy, 6) The Magician's Nephew, 7) The Last Battle. It was in the late 1990s that the publisher renumbered them to the chronological order. I started working in a bookstore in 1999, and my husband and I had an argument about the order, because he knew the release order from reading them as a kid, and I knew them in chronological order from stocking them at work, lol.

@jamilabrownie

Larissa Barros I get that I guess. The world of Narnia has more direct nods to Christianity but I still see it as a case of the pot calling the kettle black. Yeah actually the longer you stay in Narnia, the more you forget about your "other life". So yeah it happened to them, they literally forgot about the other world. You know, it makes you wonder if you didn't forget about another world you came from. It's the mystery of it all. On the other hand, the longer you stay out of Narnia, the more you forget it - as shown in the other movies, you keep the memories as a child but when you grow up, you just lose it all. That's why for example, Susan and Peter can't go to Narnia after the second movie, because they're too old. Also is no one recognizing Peter Dinklage or something??

The Narnia movies are fun and I'm glad you did a reaction, but you're right the books go way more into depth and explain why certain parts of the story are important. The order of the books chronologically are The Magician's Nephew The Lion, The Witch, and the Wardrobe The Horse and His Boy Prince Caspian The Voyage of the Dawn Treader The Silver Chair The Last Battle but the order of when they were published is different. If you (or anyone reading this) ever has time I highly recommend checking out the books. So much more detail and depth that the movies lack

I hate to be that person, but C.S. Lewis intended the books to be read in the order they were written. The Magician's Nephew is supposed to be the sixth book. "The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe, the first book to be written and published, is generally considered the best introduction to Narnia by scholars and fans alike. 'Most scholars disagree with [the decision to re-number the books] and find it the least faithful to Lewis’s deepest intentions,' says Dr. Paul F. Ford, author of Companion to Narnia. On the official website of C. S. Lewis, Dr. Charlie W. Starr claims that 'Lewis scholars almost universally agree' that the original published order is superior. He suggests that The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe is more initially captivating than The Magician’s Nephew, that certain lines in Lion do not make sense when the book is not read first, and that Nephew has greater mythic power when read as a prequel." -- www.narniaweb.com
@abunaiakane
@abunaiakane 4 года назад
@@erinhaury5773 fair enough if that is how Lewis intended it, but I personally prefer the order I laid out, and I've seen giant volumes (including the one I own) with all of the books that have The Magician's Nephew as the first book. But to each their own. To me, TLTWATW is far more interesting when you know all the juicy details from TMN.

pausing at 22:00 after you finished the first movie because I wanted to make something clear: the reason Susan and Lucy didn't stop the queen from killing Aslan is because he made them promise to keep themselves hidden no matter what they saw. they were keeping their promise. he knew that he had to let the queen kill him in order to be resurrected or the prophecy wouldn't come true and if they had intervened, it wouldn't have worked. as for the last movie, you were right: it's the worst movie. but that's because they had to cut a lot of stuff out of the books and change a lot to make it into a movie. I highly recommend reading the book because it's actually very good. great commentary, as usual. you had me cracking up throughout 😂

I think the objective of the author of the books (C.S. Lewis) actually was to reach people who never read the Bible and teach them something about God's character (Aslan represents Jesus who sacrificed his own life to save those who betrayed him before)

The Train station featured in both the Harry Potter books and the Lion the witch and the wardrobe are both the Famous and prominent Kings Cross railroad station in London so yeah it’s likely that particular railroad station or a set modeled after it. And in the third film they tried to adapt the fifth book which is the longest book in the chronicles of Narnia and had to cram a lot into a little time. (That’s why it has so many quick fire subplots) the first book “the magicians apprentice” has never been made into a movie. And the third book “a boy and his horse” (explaining how Caspian’s people came to Narnia) was also skipped. These two books have a lot of the setup for the fifth book like the wardrobe, a plank from the train track, the picture frame, and any other objects that take the children to Narnia are all made from the magic tree from the magicians apprentice that brought the witch to Narnia as it was being born. And a lot of the lore surrounding the subplots happened in a boy and his horse.

The book of Dawn Treader is episodic in nature, it's them exploring the different islands. The movie tried to add an overarching plotline with the mist/swords, but it didn't do it very well. Also, the first two were done by Disney with the same director, and the third was Fox with a different director, so that accounts for the changes between them. Aslan is supposed to be a God-like figure, which is why he is more magical than the other creatures. Netflix now has the rights to all 7 Narnia books, so it will be interesting to see what happens with that! Fun reaction to watch, I quite enjoyed it!!

The reason that the wardrobe doesn't let all of the children in immediately is because it only let's people who are worthy through. Lucy was worthy so she went through the wardrobe. Edward wasn't worthy but Lucy needed an exit route so he could go through, and as he had already gone through he could go through from now on Susan and Peter were not worthy but when they were running away from the adults they weren't thinking about it to much so they were allowed through.

The third book was actually my favorite growing up but it's very different from the movie. It felt like a scavenger hunt accross uncharted islands. The overarching plot was about discovering lands and finding the father's companions after they dissapeared. None of the white witch stuff. Then it was just smaller adventures which I think fits a children's book really well and is engaging. Unfortunately that episodic format doesn't fit a movie very well. In my opinion it would however fit a season of a show, with each island being more fleshed out.
