The Clash of Clans Comeback 

Literally just subbed today from the Clash royale Video. What I love about clash is, even if you Gem, It doesn't make you better at the game as the game is scaled pretty well to the skill level of the player. I think the reason Clash is resurging is because the CoC team focused on more Community based updates with not much expectation in return from revenue (Clan Capitol Update). It seems like their Revenue Updates are the Town Hall Cycles, which are OK because the game is scaled to your progression unlike Clash royale. I do Think the Stagnation period did sadly make the game fall very hard, as I remember leaving around TH12.

The worst part of Clash of Clans is nothing to with the game, but watching all your clanmates go inactive.

In my opinion, COC is the perfect example of the friendly pay game F2P players essentially get the same rewards and goodies as the P2W players, except the P2W players get these goodies whenever they want, while the F2P players are just given these rewards occasionally, and they aren't punished for being F2P.

This game is part of my childhood. I found it on the App Store (2013) with my Grandpa. We downloaded it and still play and share a Clan. I fondly remember him calling every war day and we’d strategize for the best attacks. This is a great video and encapsulated the time line of being burnt out and returning perfectly.

What modern game producers fail to realize is that their games are so bad compared to old games people just keep coming back

It's hard to think of a game that has such a well rounded progression system that really has something for every player, the casual and hardcore, the low lvls and the end game. It's the complete opposite from bigger games like genshin that don't seem to be made for anyone

Something else that Clash of Clans has done well very recently, is, as you have touched upon in the video, their transparency with things like the soon to be implemented price increase to the gold pass. They were pretty clear on why they were doing it (mainly inflation), AND they are going to have more rewards for both the silver pass and gold pass players with said price increase, starting in July.

I stopped playing for about 3 years, started again a few months ago, and it`s honestly so much fun, I want to play 24/7,

After just under 3 years I’ve reached townhall 15, have nearly maxed my heros, and am competent with a variety of attack strategies. Only gold passes and a few cheap offers were bought. With each new town-hall, old ones time is reduced and becoming a max townhall is definitely possible. Never too late to give clash of clans a chance

It's hard to believe that there are now 4 different villages in the game, your main village, your night village plus the extension of the night village and the clan capital, when I stopped playing this game there was only one...Now everything is just so awesome now, coz there is always something to do in the game now

It's important to note that the top 10% of players drive half of all revenue. In this context, their update philosophy for higher players make total sense

I started Clash of Clans in 2012 when it was only available for Apple. I quit the game in 2018 and just came back recently in March. I'm now a max th12 progressing much quicker now. I love the resurgence! You're making good content kid. Keep it up

I originally quit CoC just after TH11 came out. At that time, I was TH10, and hadn't rushed through the prior TH's, but was not max TH10. I came back about 3 months ago, just because I needed something to play at work, and I had to start fresh. I rushed wholeheartedly to TH9 then semi-rushed to TH11, and I stopped rushing and maxxed everything out. Currently, My heroes are level 48/48/15, and I'm nearing the point where my lab is quite literally running out of things to upgrade. I constantly think about what it is that they changed that has kept me playing, and what I think it is - is that they always have something going. Once a month you get CWL and Gold pass, every week you get new challenges, every 2 weeks or so you get a new challenge that has a nice reward, every weekend you get raid weekend, and in between all of that - you have builder base stuff (albeit, I don't plan on doing BB once I acquire BoB and hit 3000 trophies for the gems). However, in my opinion - the biggest thing that keeps people playing are your magic items. Everybody loves Research Potions, Books, and Builder Elixirs, and assuming you aren't spamming your resource, hero, and army potions, you should always have some for War, which makes it really nice. I've said this a lot since I've come back, but people are more willing to play the game, when they have shorter upgrade timers. So far, at TH11, nothing has been that bad, 3 days here, 4 days here, occasional 5 days here., but when I'm TH13 and above, I could actually see myself just not playing the game but once a week, when the upgrade times go from 4-5 days, to 15 days. While items like magical hammers acquired from league points exist, it's a band-aid on a gun-shot wound, so to speak. I think what should be done is - masters and or titans league should have 1 additional challenge that loops between a builder elixir, a research potion, and a book. For instance Mon and Tuesday the reward is a builder elixir, Wednesday a research potion, Thurs and Fri another builder elixir, and Saturday a book of spells/ sunday a book of heroes. I know that sounds a bit unrealistic, but it'd create a huge race to titans, it'd incentivize people to stop rushing their bases, learn proper attacks, play more, etc. I'd even go as far as to say these challenges should be available at Masters, but the thing is - TH11's and TH12's can make it to masters, and people at these TH levels should not really have access to such a reward system until TH13/TH14.

I started playing in 2015 or 2016. I made many accounts and lost them except my current account which is from 2018. I don’t know why, but this game rarely disappointed me with updates. While Brawl Stars is also one of my favorites it had the gear update which I hated and we don’t need to talk about Clash Royal. Right? In the past everybody played it and it’s somehow still popular. Most of my friends play it once in a while, because Clash of Clans doesn’t take that much time if you don’t have a clan or if you have a chill clan. The update which brought most of my friends back was the one which made armies free which is a thing I never expected. The issue with the game being P2W is still true, but here you aren’t matched against players with a high townhall so you won’t always get destroyed. The other games have that issues. While Brawl Stars is skill based and level don’t make you instantly win, but in Clash Royale it changes a lot and extra levels can make a bug difference. I get that it takes a lot of time to upgrade everything and I don’t like it too, but at least you can do other stuff in that time. Also the time as really well reduced stuff like mortars don’t take 8 hours anymore. But you mostly aren’t at an disadvantage when you are in a low townhall.( Unless you count less troops to choose as one) Only if you rush then people will easily destroy your base. I personally don’t rush, but the decision is up to you. I definitely had a few burnouts and took a few breaks throughout my time, but that is normal and you should take a break if it is no fun and a drain to you. Trust me the best decision I made now after a break it’s fun again.

I have played CoC purely free to play (although I plan to eventually purchase gold pass because I want to support the game more) and not once in the 12 years have I played it have I felt slighted tricked scammed or demeaned for not willing to pay real cash. Clash of Clans will forever be a game that will resonate within my heart. I have no doubt it will remain as a shining example for what mobile games should be.

It is curious you didnt mention the esports of clash of clans on this, you only mentioned the updates, which yes, are massively important and always giving the player without them taking all that much in return. But pretty much all the home village updates ever since they stablished the 18 month period between new th levels back on around the midlife of th12, have been conceved with the competitive scene in mind. In 2018 it war the first clash of clans world championship, its success made it become a yearly event that has only grew since. To the point of even pretty much bring back clash-con last year in the form of clash fest, which irl event hosted the finals of the 2022 worlds. I started playing the game back when th10 was recent, ended up leaving shortly after builder base was introduced. I came back around the midlife of th13 when i stumbbled across the world championship, i was amazed by how much the game had changed and by the show of skill those comp players gave. I came back to the game inspired by those players, and i have been steadly playing ever since, being now a novice comp player myself. Everyone that came back to the game has their own reason, for me, this was it, the inspiration to strategyze those players gave me has kept me moving

supercell definitely lucked out with the timing of the pandemic, but yeah the update pacing while not reaching the point of overloading players has been great

I play both games, and I will say that I used to prefer Clash Royale, but now I'm way more active in Clash of Clans. Idk if you included this in your Clash Royale video, but at one point this year, the person that has the most hours in Clash Royale, and has been on everyday, became inactive for a while. More recently, B-rad talked about playing a different game in one of his streams, and he only makes Clash Royale content because it's actually the only game he plays. But the devs care about the game and Supercell in general believes in listening to the community's feedback, so they will probably make a comeback in a couple months.

I've stopped playing years ago before Electric dragon update, returned this January, still fun to play the game just sad about the global chat cause now it's hard to find a good active clan

While i was never personally a fan of clash royal I don’t want it to just fade but their issue is they keep making same or similar mistakes over and over and over again and make updates that they probably should know would get backlash like the gold pass nerf also their mistakes makes sure clash of clans doesn’t fall into the same sinkhole such as their gold pass price increase actually being a buff as you actually get more stuff not less and even free to play players get more stuff in the pass

I genuinely really enjoy Clash of Clans and have no clue how Clash Royale has gotten so bad. It’s nothing to do with the competition. Brawl Stars for one is equally as PvP and competition focused and yet even if I immediately die I never feel like I got cheated out of a match.

Clash of clans has great progression. With each town hall, you get new troops, new buildings, new features like dark elixir, spells, siege machines, and heroes. You also get the builder base, clan wars, clan games, clan capital, and the builder base second stage. Magic items only help it out. You don’t get that feeling from clash royale anymore.

After not playing for 7+ years I just started playing again and it’s pretty fun

Only reason clash of clans will not get so big is because of the pay to progress. A timer for a grind is not fun, where the only thing you can do is wait.

Just buying gold pass you experince 40-45 days of upgrade in 30 days. Then you get skins. Bu it is worth to buy in th14-15 range. If you are lower you get shorter updates done with books.

In clash of clans, progression was boring at worst, and the devs constantly make it easier and quicker, with cost reductions, shortening build time, and more free rewards that shorten the progression even more. In clash royale, progression is punishing and tedious, the devs make it even worse and longer, with more levels, more required resources, taking away free useful items for progression, and putting them behind a pay wall. In short, the COC devs think of all their players, the CR devs think of the paying players. I wouldn't be surprised if CR icons like OJ, B-rad, or kashman switch to COC.

I’m definitely very happy with the state of the game right now, I honestly think the gold pass is perfect. For us but for them. For us it provides unmatched value and for them it’s their main revenue, last month I think they got 19M from the game far exceeding the other supercell games. Very healthy meta rn

For me it's not necessarily that CoC has become that much better. It's just that all the other games nowadays just seem to have gotten worse. Many games I used to play simply aren't available anymore and new games are repetitive idle games or microtransaction/ad infested. CoC is just comparitivelya good experience.
