How Supercell Handled Brawl Stars (Mostly) Correctly 

i was looking forward to this video and it didn't disappointe, at least for a video from someone who's fairly new to the game. but i have somethings i want to correct here. 2020 was by no means the dark ages of the game, 2021 was good but nothing revolutionary like 2020. 2022 is by far the worst year and I'll go into detail as to why. 2020 is by far the best year for this game, we got 3 big updates that year that are still in the top of everyone's update rankings and they're gadgets, brawl pass and map maker. gadgets added a new layer of depth to the game in so many ways that were consider witchcraft for a basic game like brawl. the brawl pass is hands down my favorite, when it was first announced i was skeptical as everyone else but then when it was fully revealed and all of the math enthusiasts have done their work, turns out that this update buffed F2P progression by a big margin and the best thing is, it is bought with gems which can be obtained through the free track of the pass making a regular F2P player able to buy it every other season. it wasn't bad at all. and lastly map maker, it is what it sounds like so i am not gonna explain it but the fact that a supercell game got this big community-driven feature was something unprecedented before for a supercell game and it allowed the community to go wild. because of how good brawl's major updates of 2020 were, you'd start to tell yourself throughout that year "surely this is everything, they can't possibly have that much man power to deliver another high quality banger" and they proved us, or at least me, 2 times. and let us not forget that the activity in the community at that year was so massive that 2 of the brawl talk videos (brawl's TV Royale) managed to get into 2020's top 10 of the most concurrent viewers on a premier/stream on youtube and they're even present in that years RU-vid rewind if i remember correctly. now, 2021 wasn't as good as 2020 wasn't as good but it had its fair share of major updates. the introduction of Power League, the new competitive mode(and probably the inspiration for path of legends in CR) that gave competitive players something they really wanted despite them not being a big focus of the game and it opened up the doors for casuals to try to be more competitive at the game with the random map selection and a draft/ban system at the start of each match. and there's also the summer update which was the biggest summer update in the history of the game and is now considered by players as the standard for a what a summer update should be. end of 2021 was when the dark era started as after August we were kept waiting for the expected club update and it kept getting delayed and we only got seasonal updates, skins and brawlers at that time but the community, myself included were positive because in our eyes, it was worth the wait. turns out, it wasn't (damn, supercell games are really bad with clan related updates) and the community wasn't happy but the bigger problem wasn't with club league, it was with something else that came with the update, 2 new power levels and gears. gears are a gameplay mechanic for brawlers kind of like gadgets and star powers but they weren't that interesting, very expensive to get and they were locked behind the 2 new power levels. the amount of change they provided to our gameplay wasn't on par with the price nor the enjoyment. and this was the only update i can consider an actual flop in this game's history and even the game lead said so on the official brawl podcast on their channel. 2022 was the worst year by far. after the flop of the gears/club update the game started getting stale for me and the focus on adding new brawlers and skins over fixing a lot of major problems that were present before or came with club update didn't help at all. by summer of that year, i dropped the game out of sheer boredom. later that year, the devs dropped a road map as they've realized that something has to change and when they started adding the things they said they were going to add. i picked up the game again and so far, the roadmap is almost complete and we got everything we've been promised except one or 2 things that didn't make it. overall, brawl stars is a great game, one of my favorites ever and i should stop writing because i don't know if RU-vid can process this and i fear of being viewed as an absolute nerd.

You forgot to mention how the brawl pass costs gems instead of real money. This is very genorous and allows free to play players to get the pass every second season (If they dont waste gems)

brawl stars is definitely my favourite supercell game as its a lot mote dependant on your skill rather than the raw time/money you put into the game. Being a level below someone else in brawl stars isnt really that big of an issue where being a level below someone in Clash Royale entirely skews the game against you

As a guy who’s been around in the brawl stars community for years I would say 2020 was arguably the best and most impactful year brawl pass,gadgets, mapmaker and tons Of qol changes which really improved the game even if you check in terms of search results on google trends it shows that brawl stars hit a peak in 2020. Having said this though for you being a player that just downloaded the game a few days ago this was a incredibly well researched video

The removal of brawl boxes might be a good thing, as you said about the problem with lootboxes, but they added a new similar, less rewarding system called starr drops, you should check that out , great video btw!

This is why I like brawl stars because the developers haven’t gotten money hungry and have still thought about progression great vid btw!

I've been playing since 2020 and it's the only supercell game I've not gotten truly tired of. Both clash royale and clash of clans I eventually quit out of boredom, but brawl stars is always releasing new intriguing content and improvements! I respect the development team very much, their transparency, even for a triple A company is outstanding! They went out of their way to share their roadmap and recently create a podcast where they take and discuss community feedback alongside big content creators. Frank is such a great example of a game lead, he often interacts on twitter and replies to both positive and negative feedback, and as they stated on the podcast, they take and consider every inch of feedback seriously. It's so insane to think that both Brawl Stars and Clash Royale are in the same bubble despite the differences in development and communication. I also appreciate how responsive they are, whereas the gear update got massive disapproval from the public and they brought a great fix to it, decreasing gear prices, improving them and adding more. It's a very F2P friendly game, and ever since I started I've spent a very small amount of money on it ( even so, it was mostly on skins rather than progression ), and I'm nearly maxxed out!

2020 was a great year, as well as first half of 2021. For the second half we were waiting for Club update, that should've come in October, but came in November. Club League was mid and Gears were awful. For the first half of 2022 we were getting seasonal updates, some minor things and the worst possible summer ever. In August they cut Gears' price by half (despite they didn't planned to do it at all). In October they completely changed the whole Gears system. In December they removed boxes. In February 2023 they released mastery, buffing progression by a lot. In April they released Bling, a currency with which you can buy 80% of the cosmetics. And in June they released Starr Drops, buffing progeression by another 20%

Also, in Brawl stars you can win even if your opponent are 5 levels above you. It's mostly dependant on skills. Something bad - Gets changed There was a bug/mistake - we get good compensation Events lile Chinese new year-we get free stuff Tribe Gaming did a challenge and the winner (not gonna spoil it) got to choose something to put in a crown pin - they care about the community and the content creators They also do some fun stuff which doesn't benefit then just like the pin maker

Greetings everyone! After seeing a few comments and being educated by many kind folks who play this game, I have learned that my oversight of calling 2020 the worst year in this game's history was a huge hole in my research and simply unacceptable. I know content creators are bound to make mistakes, I'm personally getting the hang of everything, but to brazenly lie about it considering I was using a very small pool of accounts (like two friends whose love of Brawl Stars was questionable and some Wikia research), assumed 2020 was automatically bad as it was bad for a lot of Supercells and finally, with the amount of information confronting me; I will admit that it was really lazy of me to skim over it. I have since learned that 2020 was the most revolutionary year, with three huge updates that topped everyone's ranking list (credit to @Stub. for this information) and that 2022 was one of the worst years possible, mainly thanks to the fact that compared to 2020's depth in the form of the Brawl Pass, Gadgets and the Map Maker itself, 2021 and to a degree, 2022 was filled with Supercell swelling the game with excess cosmetics. Not only that but 2020 was the best in terms of F2P progression as the Brawl Pass could be bought with gems, which can be easily earned! If anyone wants anymore details, I highly recommend checking out @Stub. and their comment that they left here, I'm not pinning this comment but I assume as the creator of the video, this comment will remain pretty high; this amazing person managed to sum up the history of the updates in 2020 that I missed out on super well and basically corrected any misinformation! Lesson learned: Don't make videos on subjects that you should research more intensely instead of being lazy about it... It was fun making this video but you all really deserve better!

You know, brawlstars has to be one of my favorite video games of all time. Ive been playing the game since global launch but took a year break. I just got back into the game and since ive been keeping up with the updates it was as if i never left. I think one of the best aspects of the game is its skill based battles and its f2p kindness. Btw you could get the chromatbrawlers before the whole chroma credits changes. During the season the chroma brawler was released it would have a legendary rarity and that rarity would decrease with every season. Thus making it easier to get that brawler from brawl boxes. You can actually still see this currently with the current system in whic it costs more chroma credits to obtain newer chromatic brawlers.

Most of the kids at my school started playing brawl stars in 2019 and im pretty sure they stopped 1 or 2 years later. I started playing it around the beginning of 2021 because of lockdown and how boring it was and haven't left it since. By what i saw they actually picked up the game when the starroad was introduced and they somewhat play it today. I think.

For a newbie, yeah, a lot of this knowledge is spot on. Even learnt a thing about how the graphic requirements acted as a hindrance back in the day. Neat video.

As someone, who has Star Shelly (1st Shelly skin, that was given for starting playing BS before 2019), I feel like Brawl Stars does perfect job at keeping game fun and Balanced, but not at making it feel bigger and bigger each update. CoC used to be more complex game, but when time moves in gets more colossal. Even some "Controversial" updates, like Builder Base 1.0 or Clan Capital are adding more things to do at game, not forcing players doing Routine. BS on the other hand has way less "revolutional" updates, but at the same time does everything to make core mechanics (Like getting new Brawlers or Updating them with new levels and different power-ups) as perfect as possible. And from the major updates, unrelated to main mechanics, only Map-Maker was REALLY successful (New Gamemodes aren't that successful for me, because majority of players still prefer Solo Showdown over every other gamemode)

Been playing since 2018 but almost quit the game in early 2022 because of them adding power 10 and 11 in the same update with the underwhelming gears that no one had. They basically 4x the progress needed to max out accounts. But nowadays brawl stars has released amazing updates that fixed most of those issues and has continued to listen to their community to create a great game.

They did add a new type of loot box in the game, but from what I see there's isnt any negatives. The reason they add this was due to the complaints people had of missing the loot boxes. So they fix the issue without changing the overall big change from last year. This shows that with the right people on the team they can make a profitable game while keeping both freemium and premium players happy.

I think I might return to Brawl Stars. I really only quit because life was getting a little busy, plus there were other games releasing that I wanted to try. This vid reminds me of why I liked Brawl Stars. They also made quite some quality of life updates that I don't think many people asked for but once implemented, it felt really great, like the change of how the power boxes in Showdown no longer has a static 6000 HP but rather, scales off the average power level of all those in the match. It definitely felt like the devs were passionate about it, even having some LORE! in the game, especially in the Investor video - a video with a ton of hidden details that played after a video about the upcoming update "glitched out".

While Clash Royale made me quit multiple times and clans just bored me to death sometimes, brawl just slide in nearly perfectly. Ot had flaws, some weird rocks on the track (like launch Leon, Bugged gene, Rosa launch week, the "edgarpocalipse"), but it wasso good to see how they learned and improved the game. Now i have a nearly maxed account(way closer than Royale) and still plays frequently at least when im not busy with college, the hype from the gears rework and end of the boxes was so big i got a friend to play and we had a blast at our end of the school celebration playing and pushing trophies a lot.

As somebody who’s played before 2019 the best thing Imo to be added to brawl stars was the brawl pass (and free skins I like collecting skin)

I took a break from Season 9 to the middle of Season 10 and started to learn about the Gears update I missed, something that would take pretty much a whole year to fix.

It's just keeps getting better and better

I would like to add personally that legendaries were already quite obtainable to f2p players (like myself) before Starr Road. I have never spend a dollar on the game and yet I had already unlocked every brawler, including all legendaries, when Starr Road came out. Admittedly, I have played on and off since launch, but still. (Especially after the release of the brawl pass progression got a huge boost)

Calling Brawl Stars the black sheep of Supercell is veryy funny to me, i know you mean it by the fact that its not a strategy game, but when Hayday and Boom Beach exist and Brawl Stars being one of the biggest mobile games its just very funny to me

This is cool. I've been playing Brawl Stars for a long time. Edit: In the latest update they introduced Star Drops to fill the gap left by Brawl Boxes. So let's see if that'll make the game more exciting.

Loot boxes drove me away from the game for a while, even if I got really lucky (I unlocked two legendary and about six chromatic brawlers) but when they announced they would remove them and replace them with the credit system, I decided to go back and boy it feels much better to grind towards a set goal instead of leaving your progress to chance. Starr Drops, the replacement and spiritual successor of loot boxes, is fine, tough, even if SC nerfed some of the rewards from other places to justify its introduction and at the very least serves a good reminder of why the old progression system sucked.

Ohoho you miss a lot of stuff in here. But it mainly boils down to. Community thinks something is bad -> it gets changed for example the gears before the rework or something

Other than 2020 statistically being the best year for it. 2023 is also looking pretty good for the game so far 2022 is definitely the worst year for me, Nothing new except for brawlers in the brawl pass seasons of 11-14 and season 15 was really the best update because of the gears revamp. Every other update felt boring to play 2023 so far has definitely improved the game and made it more fun and rewarding to play Season 16 By the removal of boxes, players could actually get the brawlers they wanted and the only negative thing was the gambling addiction people seemed to have which didnt really affect me as a f2p player Season 17 which added Masteries addressing the coin shortage introduced by removing boxes, but also made it rewarding to keep playing a single brawler so you can get their cosmetics Season 18 added bling which was the replacement for starr points which other than a handful of skins and some box offers didnt really do anything,. Bling added the ability for completely free 0layers to get the skin they want without sacrificing progression by not buying the brawl pass and also replacing a useless currency. Season 19 (Currently) added Starr drops to address the gambling addicts of this community, There's only 3 in a day but fhe rewards you get can range from 25 power points to a skin or even a legendary brawler completely for free albeit at the cost of a small amount of progression Definitely positive with these current updates and I hope Supercell can continue like this

as a semi f2p, I like the removal of brawl boxes cuz the rewards were random and I didnt know what I would get and if I want that or not and if its good for acc longevity besides the fact that I couldnt control on how I am going to spend my currencies insides the game towards the most competitive brawlers,but with that gone,now I can control what I would get and what I would buy and upgrade,however tho,the recent add to the game which is starr drops brings back the element of loot boxes,which I am not gonna lie is a thing that I AM done with,I just had enough RNG, keep in mind that in order for them to make starr drops they took loot from other places which hurt my ability to choose what I want to do with my currencies inside the game,which is a thing I am very frustraited about. in the end,thats my opinion,if you disagree go on cuz I won't stop,if you agree then just make the devs know that starr drops just hurt your chosen progression which is starr road and coins mostly(as if coins rly needs any nerf for real witjh how scarce its already is before the update)

You also forgot to mention that they brought boxes back!…. In a different way! Via stardrops! You need to win 8 games to get three starrdrops, which you can upgrade to different rarities! You can get gold, power points, brawlers and even skins there!

This comment is just some feedback on the video. Most of your video you were talking about the topic with bs gameplay on the background. I know this format of video is usually done like this however I find it is pretty hard to concentrate on the video without any related to topic visual material. This would not have been a problem if your video had all of the information in the audio because than it would have been more like a podcast. But with the format of an actual RU-vid video I think you should add more "visual information" in your video to make it more entertaining and engaging. By visual information I mean photos/videos etc regarding your topic. I feel like around 95% of this video material is just gameplay which is getting pretty boring if there is nothing but it. I think you executed your clash royale video better in this regard (probably because animations are more entertaining to watch). However gameplay is ok as well but in smaller quantities if it is just for filling the gaps between useful video material. I know it's much harder to do but I think we all prefer quality over quantity. Personally I don't know how to handle this better as I am not a youtuber but I think including some photos/videos of the topic you are currently talking about (like when you're talking about 2019 use clips from this year / maybe list of changes in updates that year etc) and mixing it with gameplay/animations would do the job. Once again I am not critiquing your videos just giving feedback. I hope you continue making videos on Supercell games. Great video!

They have recently added another form of loot boxes but you are limoted to three a day and you cant buy more its kind of like old boxes but you have four chances to upgrade it for better rewards like how you can get free cosmetics and brawlers if your lucky however because of this they nerfed the pass alittle bit but we got compensated with the new boxes however you have to win 9 games it dosent seem like alot but it means you have to be active everyday for normal progresion they sain it was a 12% buff but a brawl stars youtuber kairostime din the math and it was only around a 1.5% buff to progresion this promotes people to be active but harshly punishes players that cant log on as much

Saying that no clash youtubers wanted to play bs is straight up not true. Cheif pat completely switched,it took up half of Oj's channel,and some like Lex or Kairos blew up directly because they switched. 6:38 they also did a heist challenge with BS brawlers in CR 12:59 Complete lie, 2020 was the biggest year for brawl stars. 3 completely game changing updates of Gadgets,the brawl pass and map maker not to mention official lore videos that cost millions of dollars. Also the brawl pass was not controversial at all,after people actually played the update and realized that it was a 40% progrssion buff for f2p and even more for people who spend money. If you think that BS is in a healthy state now you should have seen late 2020-early 2021. 12:37 they weren't ignoring feed back on removing boxes because nobody was asking for it. I can exuse all the misinfo because you have never played the game but still. Also the main reason for decline in late 2021-2022 was due to the gears update,whcih up until the last 2 CR updates was considered the worst update in any supercell game ever. The fact that they were able to bounce back acter ignoring it for 1 year is impressive.

Brawl Stars is actually the only mobile game that I played without breaks, too bad that now they're adding a bunch of new stuf for new players and almost nothing for "veterans"

I am started playing brawl stars since 2019 February, ever since I have loved the game until in December 2021 I quit, because the game just got stale for me and other minor reasons like the matchmaking and the lagginess
