I've been scratching my head wondering the same thing as so many others: why on earth weren't they huge superstars??? It certainly wasn't for lack of talent! But all of what you said makes a lot of sense. There were no doubt a lot of disapproving mother/housewives who didn't appreciate their sons' & husband's jaws dropping to the floor whenever sultry 16/17-year-old Lorrie provocatively strutted onto the TV screen, haha. "No! No Lorrie Collins' records for YOU, Junior!"
I was listening to THE COLLINS KIDS CD ROCKING" AND BOPPIN' today to me they were the 50s like THE BEATLES were the 60s & LED ZEPPELIN were the 70s THE COLLINS KIDS were considered as a novelty act and because they were on TV & RADIO a lot
@HermanJ06 My guess is that it had a lot to do with the fact that they were on "Mom and Dad's" country show, and also, remember that teen girls would have thought of Larry as a kid and were likely jealous of Lorrie's looks! As for the boys, well, at THAT age, guys like "older women" (Which doesn't last hahaha)
I've been watching all their vid's and wondering why they weren't bigger. Must have been the times, or maybe they were just considered a novelty. Saw one interview with Lorrie and she said it was mostly adults that liked them in the 50's, not kids. She also married a guy twice her age when she was 17, so that probably didn't help either. She could have been Brenda Lee at the very least. He could have been Carl Perkins or Eddie Cochran. I bet their are lots of similar stories in show business tho
COULDA, WOULDA, SHOULDA, In their time they were great, but at 17 Lorrie got married and quit the business. Larry tried to keep playing but they were a team......flash forward 45 years and they are playing together again.....and still sound the same, WOW
Raw Rockabilly women weren't too appreciated, also, their studio material isnt near as good as the live appearance, they were a live group, that's what they did best, the studio material is good, but not chart-chattering. Still the best live performers of the era, without a doubt
