I would have thought at 100 yds the bullet would drop enough that you wouldn't have to make that much correction. But I guess since it was hitting that high at 30 yrds it would only get worse up to the point it starts to drop. It might be dead on at 150 yds.
A few weeks ago Sportsman’s had one for $949.00 and I went early to get it . Upon examining it at the sales counter it had terrible cylinder end play . So bad that you had to hold the cylinder to the rear to close it . If you didn’t the cylinder would hit the barrel shank . I left it there .
Since you asked, my 6” model arrived 2.5” right, and 1.5” low. Using the adjustable sights I was able to match the POI with the POA and put it dead center. So, mine has been great.
I believe this revolver takes the same sights as the Python/Anaconda. EWK Arms makes replacement front fiber optic sights for it that are +.025" that should do the trick. Only requires loosening the allen screw at the muzzle to replace. The rear sight is garbage, though...as is the OEM rear on the new Python & Anaconda. These deserve the Wilson Combat Python/Anaconda rear sight. Not cheap but a major upgrade in quality! You shouldn't have to do any of this to a $1,000 revolver, but that's the world we live in.
Exactly! I have a Glock conversion slide that has special mags and they only hold 10 rounds. Love the idea of a 10 round revolver that easily extracts and I can load in about the same time. Gorgeous gun too. Approx $900+ is a steep price though. Might put this on my list to Santa
@@trainedtiger Hahaha! I'm in Texas, so its more about the adapter mags just holding 10 rounds. But this would be a good revolver for California, max rounds
You might find a taller front sight. I recently purchased the Walther P99 and had the same problem. But Walther did include 4 other front sights, so you can make that correction. I almost bought the Colt, but the Final Edition P99 won. It does need better grips. Their little bumps won't allow for much traction.
I am definitely a Colt-Snake gun guy; however, I do have a finely-tuned 4" S&W 617 that I absolutely love. If I could find a 6" King Cobra, I would definitely jump on it. Something about the 6" barrel, its longer sight radius and the way it looks . . .
Hi sir I would have to say that I would be calling the support line for that company and they would be hearing a whole lot of explicit words then my wife would take phone an be much nicer an may be just may be get new one or mine fixed
Really beautiful pistol. My grandfather had a 357 King Cobra and I've always wanted to own one, eventually, I will pick one up, I'm thankful Colt started producing the snake revolvers again.
I have the new Python 2 1/2" and Anaconda 4" so a 4" king Cobra is next on my bucket list! I love all these new Colt snake guns! All of mine are concealed carry defense guns.
I have the 4" and the 6" colt 22's and they shoot exactly like you describe. Not point of aim for me either. It took some getting used to. I love them but I totally agree with you on sighting situation.
God I hate ai comments. I set this god awful channel to “don’t recommend.” Shows up in my feed and is now haunting the comment section of gun channels. Awesome.
I bought the 10-shot Ruger GP100 which was my choice due to three points of cylinder support versus only two in the S&W model 617 and the Colt King Cobra 22 LR model. The barrel profile is a 5.5 inch semi-lug on the GP100 Ruger 22 LR revolver and full lug profile on the S&W and Colt models. Ruger has recessed chambers as does the S&W 617 but the Colt is not a recessed chamber cylinder. So the Ruger GP100 was my choice.
Hey Plinkster, i watch yor trick shot vidz & show'em to my buddyz. Watch all ah your vidz. Kirsten Joy Weiss, she's got some good trick shots vidz too. Shoot- Mannn I'd watch yall kick empty shell casings. Keep makin trick shot vidz.
Had to change the rear sight on my Python which uses the same as the King Cobra. Though I did not have a reason to change it on the King Cobra interesting yours shoots so high.
Had the same issue with the sights. The Anaconda, Python and King Cobra front sights are interchangeable. Swapped out the King cobra with the Python and that resolved the hitting high issue. Unfortunately I have an issue with the red ramp and my eyes picking it up well. Will be picking up a gold bead to replace it.
I like mine so much I bought a 2'nd one. The most accurate load I found is believe it or not the Federal Punch 22 LR. It shoots to the POA at 25/30 yards. Try is and see what you think. Now I'm waiting for their upcoming 3" version later this year.
I have a S&W 617 with a 4 inch barrel and i really enjoy it. I also have a S&W 63 with a 3 inch barrel and 8 shot. I have the same problem you have, it shoots high. wry frustrating. It has a great action, but if are always guessing for POA, crazy. I'd be interested if there is a solution or what the root of the problem is. Great Video.
It could be your ammo and perhaps its a Six o'clock hold? Hickok45 was reviewing a Springfield 1911 and had difficulty hitting much. After a couple of magazines he tried the 6 o'clock hold and then started hitting everything he aimed at. The manual on the Springfield 1911s clearly state a 6 o'clock hold and most people complain about the inaccuracy but then feel a little foolish because the didn't read the owners manual that clearly states 6 o'clock hold.
Hey plinkster would think you like to see the colt cylinder with recessed shells instead of the rounds sitting open on the outside of the cylinder like they are now? Personally, I like them to be recessed. Thought I’d ask a pro.
I just picked up a 6” gun. The set screw for the windage was loose so I tightened before shooting. It shot high and left at 10 yards. About 3 inches in both directions. I ordered the Wilson Combat rear sight as soon as I got home. The Colt rear sight is garbage.
I had suggested to Colt that since they now have the 22 lr cylinder they should come out with a 2, and 3 inch barrel Cobra in 22 lr. If not they should at least offer a 3 inch 22lrKing Cobra target
Does the new Wilson Combat rear sight for the Python fit the .22 King Cobra? Everyone was disappointed in the rear sight Colt put on the new model Python, as well. If it fits, that could be your answer....
@@donaldbutts My Gunsmith had to do a little filing to install the Wilson rear sight..he found that the hole for the pin to secure the rear sight was a hair tooo far forward...as far as its accuracy is NOT a target grade weapon..the S&W M17 will beat it badly in ANY accuracy test.
I honestly prefer the old model 17. 6 rounds only, yes. But much better balance, and trigger. The 617 is far too frontheavy to me. The 17 just points perfectly.
Interested in seeing wat you do about those sights I can't imagine you leaving it that way I have a few of the 2020 pythons and I agree the sights on such a iconic gun are crap Wilson combat makes a replacement sight but I have pulled the plug yet it just sucks I have a $1400 gun and I have to spend another $100 and something to fix the sights.
I just was fortunate to join a gun range in my area and I was wondering if someone could steer me in the direction of a light weight 22 rifle for me. They have a 22 range just for 22's, I'm getting excited 😊
I already have a 617, but I did pick up a Colt 22 in 4.25" today. I have not shot it yet, but so far, it seems impressive. It definitely has much better finish, and doesn't have the Hillary hole. I picked mine up for $999. The Smith is 949 most places, so I guess each his own between the two.
When my long-range range is ready. Should be the end of May. I love making trick shot videos, but no one hardly watches them anymore. My average trick shot videos only get 20% of views compared to what my normal videos get.
@@22plinkster that’s, odd…. To me anyway. Thanks for the update! I look forward to the LR content. A buddy of mine and myself have gotten into .22LR long range recently. It’s a lot of fun! And good practice.
I just got one of these with a 6” barrel.. I’m wandering if the sight index is different as far as having to hold low. I ran into this problem with the Glock 44. I haven’t fired this colt yet but I’ll be looking closely at it now that I watched this video.
If it’s shooting above point of aim and you have to aim low to get hits you should need to raise the rear sight up. If you have it bottomed out all the way down, that might be your problem. I don’t have one of these, but I listened to what you said 3 times and unless you misspoke or I misunderstood, that would seem to be the case.
My sights are dead on. Albeit I'm not as accurate as you. This issue with mine that I purchased in Jan was after 30rds the spent casings were locked into the cylinder chambers. I had to force out each casing 1 by 1. Sent it to Colt. They serviced it and while they would eject, I'd have to give the ejection rod a firm palm strike. I cleaned and polished each chamber and it's like butter now.
I Haven’t shot mine yet, so I can’t comment on the sight issue, but my issue so far is the grips. So frigging small. I have large hands (large or xl gloves) and I can’t get three fingers on the grip. My pinky hangs under the bottom of the rubber Hogues. Really Colt? Recoil dampening, concealed carry grips on a target .22?
Could you do a video on 22 primer powder.... I let my wife carry a 22 snub nose for a couple months and went to fire it and half the rounds didn't shoot. I then gave her another 22 lr. Pistol with same results. Did some back ground investigating and found when carrying 22lr daily the powder must shift away from the hammer strike. Any thoughts from you would be a help my friend 🤔
Bought one 1 week ago and it won’t lock the cylinder closed. Had to send it back first day. Never got to fire it! Sent it back. No excuse for a $1000 gun
Having a POA lower than POI is exactly what you want for good shooting. Prevent you from looking at the target. I would suggest a POI 3" high at 25yards.
Why? On a 22 revolver/pistol 1000 feet per second 40 grain bullet zeroed at 50 yards POA and POI the same, shots will be .2” high at ten yards, .8” high at 25 yards and dead nuts at 50 yards and around 4.5” low at 100 yards.
I have the S&W 617, really wanted to get a Colt as well but the reviews I've watched are not as good as I would like considering the premium price tag. Beautiful gun otherwise.
A quick tip for you man if you see this comment I don’t think you will you should wear the ear plugs and the headset together when your shooing that way when your old you hearing is not lost
You had a check with Hickok 45. He just did a video on one. I don't know if that's where you got that one from which you can see what he was doing. He didn't say anything about having trouble with the sites course he shoots at at 6:00 hold but I'm more in favor of right on where it's at and like you in that respect. I don't like a 6:00 hole. You have to adjust it a half time anyway That's all I got to hear. Say about that lol
Then don't buy it. I just wanted to prove that all media is not the same. There are standards in the industry, and it has been since the 80's. I proved that in my video.
So the argument is youtube science? Jeff makes amazing videos and tests some awesome stuff. These are low Velocity self defense rounds. Upper cut will expand from a rifle at a higher Velocity in clear gel. Its gotta function to standards. Not youtube science. If clear gel was so good, it would be the fbi standard.
I'm friends with Jeff and have been for many years. The FBI will never use CBG for their data testing. It doesn't simulate tissue and is a synthetic material.
@22plinkster I still love your videos, thank you very much your uploading, and even replying.. though I bought the 10/22 binary with your name on it, and I can't get it to run at all, I've only had one successful run, there are generally magazine loading issues. If you have any references on correcting issues with the product, I would appreciate it
I take exception to saying that this weapon is target grade it definitely is NOT..my 1968 S&W K22 M17 beats it BADLY as to accuracy..that said i would rather practice with the Colt so as not to place undue wear on my TARGET GRADE K22
You do understand that there is a difference between"target" and "match" grade? Target grade is everything from a Ruger 10/22, Browning Buckmark, Marlin model 60, and all the Ruger Mark series. This Colt is Target grade. Maybe on the lower end, but definitely Target grade.
@@22plinkster YES..i know the difference...my comment was..is for those who do not..those who get all caught up in the hype of a new Colt Snake weapon 😁
“The Colt King Cobra 22LR sights smiling at other people on a range shooting their pistols at 10yard targets getting 12inch MOA groups 😊”. Hehe. (But does it take Glock mags).
