The hog actually looks a lot more like a small prehistoric elephant ancestor than a pig tbh. Like a prehistoric Phiomia but with the tusks of a modern elephant.
@@screamthesecond3946 I think this mount looks like a Phiomia but with the tusk shape and size of modern elephants. Mostly the mount head shape is very similar to most illustrations of Phiomia.
It's fun to imagine being a random-ass hornsent fighting messmer's forces in the war. "By the divine beast, the lady over there is wiping out our forces by slamming the moon on us and theres a rampaging glowing hippo bulldozing us this cant get any worse..." Gaius from the sky: "Giga...Drill....-"
@@dorianrobinette9712 its kinda weird that Gaius is fine tho, since Albus says "My legs will soon fade, and with them, my life. Alas, this is the immovable fate of all Albinaurics..." so shouldnt Gaius basically be on his deathbed when we meet him?
@@PunishthefalseNo, he’s not. He was a student under the same Alabaster Lord who taught Radahn gravity magic and the two were competitive but friendly rivals.
I know he's an Albinauric, but those little legs are funny. I thought he'd completely removed them given his greaves are elsewhere. That idea made him a little more intimidating, at least to me
@@Soap010 first generation albinaurics are losing their legs at some point of their life. That's also the reason albinauric archers are either sitting in high places or riding wolves.
As far as I know the Gaea character mentioned on Gaius's armor isn't mentioned anywhere else, so I'm going to assume that Gaea IS the boar and it was also taught gravity magic. Just because that is really funny to imagine
With him being a cute little piggy, and the context of him probably being Leonard's best friend short of Radahn himself... I propose we dub the pig "Wilbur".
its probably called gaea because of the item description, i dont think its a typo like people say it is, it basically acted as gaius's legs since hes an albinauric so it makes sense that it would learn the same magic too
with that said, Gaius's boar actually bears a striking resemblance to the archstone chunks/ephemeral stones from Demon's Souls, as they're also tapir-like.
Imagine grazing on some of the best grass and leaves, becoming the biggest boar in all of the Realm of Shadow, just for a crippled guy to decide, "Yea, this'll be a worthy mount." Then get armoured up only for a fool with some knowledge on weapons and/or spells comes and pokes you in the eye.
Ah yes, Hog Rider's descendant who went to the Lands of Shadows for a better life just to follow his ancestor's footsteps. *Update: Removed 'Lands Between' *Replaced with 'Land of Shadows'
Strangely reminds me of a very old horror movie from China i once watched as a kid, i don't really remember much except that one of the "ghost/monster" in that movie resembles a small one-legged elephant.
i actually like this boss fight with no music for some reason. something about a warrior and his mount out in a field. no words exchanged, no sound but the wind in the grass; you both know what you must do.
i like how the description of his leg armor was a gift of messmer as a kinda cruel joke or maybe just for fun since they were friends (his remembrance states they were friends and gaius was commander of Messmer men)
Fun fact, the description on Gaius' armor mentions a "Gaea," who was supposedly a student under the same alabaster lord as him and Radahn They're not mentioned anywhere else in the game, so perhaps its just an artifact left over from cut content. However, considering its apparent capacity for gravity, I think a more compelling argument is that Gaea is simply the name of Gaius' boar
The most surprising bit for me is that Gaius doesn't exist. There's the boar, the boar armor, and the rider armor with no rider inside, Full Metal Alchemist style.
There’s probably meant to be some ugly frog lookin mf beneath that abomination of an armour set but he’s a random boss with barely any lore and no buildup so they couldn’t be bothered to give a face to some schmuck that gets killed almost as fast as he appears
