Beautiful song in honor of bass player Ron LaPread's wife who passed away after having become ill when she had joined the band on tour. After they got home she was diagnosed with cancer and when Ron was at his piano Cathy came and worked out the melody of the song with him. He took back to the band and they asked what was it called and he simply told them (sic) "It's like, you know, Zoom.
This was my all time favorite Commodores song! Big time stress reliever for me. Great lyrics. "I wish the world was truly happy, living as one. I wish the word they call freedom, someday would come". Zoom, Zoom baby.
Its odd that youre reacting to this song, today of all days. This was one of my mother's favorite songs. It was a reminder of her sister, who died too soon, as did my mother. Today is my mother's birthday. So, Im happy and sad. Thank you.
Man, this song transports me back to my cousins and I, playing iin the project hallways on a Friday, while my Mom and Pops hosted a fish fry/spades game. When all the families knew, respected and protected one another. This was one of my Mom's favorites...may her soul continue to rest easy!❤
This is precisely why taking music out of children's educational development in school is one of the the worst things this society ever did. To itself.
@@Fruit17-ip4vl I never learned to play a musical instrument. I didn't know it at the time--but, what my 8th grade Music Appreciation teacher taught me about the specifics of music?...would enhance my enjoyment of the "listening" experience. I learned about pitch; keys; harmony; timing; chord progression; etc. Basics that also taught me how to pinpoint the things that I liked--AND DISLIKED about the music I heard. This learning process taught me patience, when confronted with new musical genres. If you're not taught the essential "basics" of music---you'll be extremely limited in terms of what you'll be able to understand about the music you hear. Also, having a sense of what the basics (pitch; harmony; key) are gives you a sense of what they DO; and how they work to produce the music you enjoy. This knowledge gives you a broader vocabulary in which to describe what you are actually hearing. This is precisely why so much of today's "pop" music sounds essentially the same. Yeah...they sell millions more records; but, the quality of the music just isn't there. This is also why when these "kids" grow out of adolescence?--they're digging through their parents music collection. They're thirsty. And, they don't even know what they're thirsty for. If a person has a limited vocabulary, there's only so far they can go--as they attempt to describe what they're actually thinking. You don't have to be able to play music to possess a vocabulary that allows you to describe what excites you about it. But---having an awareness of what a "musical palette" consists of gives you more tools, (words) to describe precisely what you're hearing. Personally, (with the exception for jazz)...I don't see R&B being elevated in a way that is adding onto what has already been created in the past. And it really makes me sad. (Sorry for the rant.)
A very intelligent rant! The music of our generation still has staying power! I am glad that the young people are discovering these oldies and goodies! 😎❤️
I know you feeling this Zoooom Ashley. Lionel is a master at song writing…brilliant! 73 yrs young and it’s as if I just heard it for the first time. Love how you appreciate this oldies music.
When they came on the scene with "Slippery When Wet" and followed that up with "Fancy Dancer", and "Brick House" the music scene was turning from Funk to Disco.
I have always loved the Commodores, they are from my home state. Lionel Richie is a fantastic singer/songwriter! They have so many great hits and this is one of my favorites, along with Still, Easy, Brick House, and many more!!💖💖
Ok niece. Please react to both Lionel Richie/Kenny Roger's sing "Lady" as a duo. Lionel Richie is underestimated as an artist/songwriter. Lionel/Commadores were/are extremely talented singer/musicians. Let's put some respect on there name 🖤🖤🖤. I recommend that you dive into their discography. Chef's kiss 💋
This was my Dads favorite song. He use to walk around and just sing the 'zoom' part all the time. Drove my mom crazy. One of my favorite memories of him He passed when I was 9.
Message songs have been around forever. It was in the 60’s and 70’s that they proliferated to the masses. Try Curtis Mayfield- Just a little bit of love.
Mrs Ashley maam....there is a story behind this song...google it one day and play it at the same time....1977 I was a junior in high school. You will love it more after the story.❤🔥
Yo, I just read it & I'm blown away. Thank you for sharing that info on the song. It already meant a lot to me because of my mom. It was her favorite Commodores song & it became mine as well. Since she passed in 2021, I listen to it as if she's sitting with me enjoying it, too. Now, this song means even more to!
@@TheAzbrother I appreciate it. It's getting closer to the anniversary of her death & I get kinda down around this time of year. She passed suddenly at 63 two days before my birthday. Your comment is uplifting & positive. I thank you again 👑
It's great to see you react to this song, it's one of Lionel Ritchie's best vocal performances. Another one of their songs that doesn't get much traction and is amazing is called "Jesus is Love", I'm not a religious person, but everything about that song is fantastic!
Another band you may want to check out is an Australian band called The Little River Band. I recommend 1. HELP IS ON THE WAY (1977 live), 2. Lonesome Loser (1979 live), and 3. TAKE IT EADY ON ME (live). Great live band.
You should watch TV One Unsung,,some of the Artists back in the day....Angela Bofill,,Phyllis Hyman,,Stacy Lattisaw,Debarge and many others...it shows their Bio and how they all began...very inspiring
This is a feel good song. Holds a special place in my heart. Heard playing on the radio the night before my father’s passing. I heard the writer of the song had a similar experience
Songs back then were played by true musicians, not a computer. My friends and I would sit back and just chill listening to different song all evening.🎶🎤😊
This song was written by Commodore bass player, Ron LaPread for his wife Cathy, who was diagnosed with cancer. Ron started writing the song and Lionel Ritchie finished it. His wife Cathy did pass from cancer.

I may just a foolish dreamer, but I don’t care,Cause I know my happiness is waiting out there somewhere, searching for that silver lining, horizons that I’ve never seen I’d like to take just a moment and dream my dream….Zoom baby, I’d like to fly away don’t you wanna go….. You and me baby walking free.. SMH this was/is a jam to be recognized….. got me digging down in my CD box 📦 Again 🙂↔️😉
Another contribution to the cause.. "Could You Be Loved" -- the late, great Bob Marley "Black Magic Woman " -- Carlos Santana "Flamingo" -- Lee Morgan in trumpet 🎺 Instrumental. Not sure it fits your YT reactions channel but judging from your reactions so far, I think you'll enjoy this.
Yes, 10 out of 10 Commodores song this is a life thinking song, Since, we are in this era can you react to Atlantic Starr "Send For Me" Great reaction bring back good memories, ty and keep them coming.
