exaactly the same situation i am facing. am 25 now by the time, one of the doctors(among the several doctors i consulted) identified the actual problem for my sensitivity of the upper teeth. it all started when i first felt sensitivity in one of my upper tooth and when i consulted an orthodontist he suggested all those sensitivity toothpastes and oral solutions and all, which were utterly useless for me as there was a more serious underlying cause for that sensitivity that i recently discovered from one of the many doctors i visited, which happened to be an Overbite. by the time one of those doctors identified the actual cause of that sensitivity, my all 4 upper tooth(incisors) got sensitive and i am in a serious situation right now. now even if i put braces, that might correct my overbite but leaves the sensitivity as it is, which is again a problem for another day to be taken care of. huh, they say doctors are next to god, but i say its true only in case of successful patients, the rest need to put their trust on god himself rather on doctors...

Yeh same here, my jaw is fine I just have a slight overbite which is visible when i chew food / gum.

If your maxilla is recessed, it's over unless you get bimaxillary surgery. But make sure you get counterclockwise rotation and great sagittal forward movement.

Clark Kent regular braces fix your overbite though. If you wouldn’t have had an overbite and just crooked teeth they’d recommend Invisalign. But to fix that the braces are used

I’m 16 and I’m having the same problem! I have a overjet and weak lower jaw but my parents are convinced all I need is braces..But I’m confident I need jaw surgery to fix my issue. Problem is we don’t have 30k, soo I guess I’m just fucked🤷‍♀️

Same here, but I simply started pushing my jaw forward & trying to keep it there. First it was difficult because the jaw is used to be at back & at overbite position. Felt like I was stretching my jaw muscles. After a quite some time, I could hold my chin way forward than I ever could. Now I can "Fake" that I have a normal bite, but ofcourse when holding my jaw front at "normal" position and I smile, my lower front teeth are now a bit infront of my upper front teeth. 🤫 For me this is still better than my deep overbite. 🥴🤷‍♂️😁

I would recommend to find an orthodontist who is working with twin block appliances to fix overbite , If you have a scoliosis, back pain, headaches or neurological problems please fix your overbite first , then move your teeth. Google twin block appliances and Dwight Jennings DDC from California

Agree, 16 and just started going out, now I'm thinking about braces and other treatments, the more I research the more hopeless I become, I reallly hope there is a treatment to enlarge my lower jaw, if there is, I wouldn't even care wearing braces for 2 whole years really

Nope. You need sagittal split. First braces, then surgery, then braces again. Whole procedure takes around 1 - 2 years.

saritia although I'm not a doctor I do have braces and had teeth pulled to. getting teeth pulled probably won't help a thing. your teeth may shift but braces help force it. if you really dislike the overbite I advice trying to save up for them. I'm a year and a half into mine and so happy with the results. they can take them out right now and give me a set of retainers and I'd be happy. But your teeth won't shift, if they I, the way you want. you'd probably get a gap in the front teeth and be more unhappy. Braces and elastics although painful as hell (first hand experience) they are worth the confidence it brings. I feel more normal and happier. Braces would your teeth discipline and make them form correctly, letting them shift with pure freedom won't give you the desired results and assuming you have an underdeveloped lower jaw like me it won't help your jaw move forward. if you have just jetting upper teeth (or both underdeveloped and jetting teeth like me) it could maaaybe but probably not what you want or how you want them to shift and probably not in the time span either

These issues arent genetic at all. That is why you aren’t like your siblings. Its a series of habbits like thumb sucking as a child maybe or use of a dummy (pacifier) or even hanging your mouth open and dropping your tongue from where it is meant to rest.

100% true. I didn't realize I even had an overbite until my 30s. I grew out a beard and i realize I looked significantly better especially from a profile view. Then I shaved it off and it dawned on me to start googling bites and I realized my chin was recessed. Man I really wish my dentist would have sent me to an orthodontist to get that fixed when I was a kid. I now realize I literally have a to wear a beard for the rest of my life to maximize my looks.

It's probably part of the reason yes. It was observed that Aboriginees did have wonderful teeth, however, once they grew up eating industrialized foods, they developed severely crooked teeth and all sorts of dental problems you can imagine.

Just be confident bro Evolutionary biology has a plethora of evidence to prove it is not genetic. Saying overbites are genetic is false beyond description. We have been anatomically the same for 300000 years at least. All our ancestors within this timeframe had no overbites or any form of malocclusion. All of a sudden however when civilisation began to arise, the prevalence of these problems has skyrocketed. In a blink of an evolutionary eye, these problems have arose. This in itself proves overbites cannot be genetic as changes of this magnitude cannot ever occur across an entire species within such a short timeframe through mere genetic mutations or genetic inheritance. This also proves that the cause of these issues must be environmental.

Consider this for example. We have been anatomical humans for 200 thousand years. All of the anthropological evidence of humans who lived hunter gatherer lifestyles show that the craniofacial structure was far more projected than people today. Also almost all humans within these environments had perfectly aligned teeth. You mean to tell everyone that in the last 40 years, humans have managed to evolve to grow crooked teeth in the rates seen today. Only 5 percent of the modern population today has ideal occlusion. This was not the case before. It was actually rare to find something with a malocclusion within our hunter gatherer days. Oh and even the very first orthodontist stated that the best way to treat these issues was to correct the facial musculature issues such as incorrect oral posture which cause these crooked teeth. Braces even from the begining were recognised as being inferior to an orthotropic method of correcting the issue. Saying “yes they are” isnt a good enough argument to say overbites are genetic. Look at the evidence first then make a conclusion. Dont base it off your own presuppositions and give a one lined, unsubstantiated claim. You’ve said something is caused by genetics for the sake of it, whereas I’ve said they arent caused by genetics and given plenty of evidence as to why its the case. So tell me now, who’s argument is better?

I know what you mean. I had a really bad one (could fit thumb with space left) until I got braces at 20. I used to cover my mouth whenever I'd laugh or eat. People may not like to hear it, but the reality is that what you've said is true.
