Ilse: Coach of Duncan in The Voice Of Holland Ilse: Becomes 2nd in Eurovision Ilse: Chooses Duncan to represant The Netherlands in Eurovision 2019 Duncan: Wins Eurovision. *darn Ilse is amazing*
Bulshit it is not Ilse who became second at the eurovision 2014 it was Ilse and Waylon. Without Waylon it would have never been that high. And Duncan wrote the song and sang the song so it is 100% Duncan who won the eurovision. And it is not that difficult to discover a talent before they become famous. For example I knew that One Direction would become big when there where only in the first liveshow of the x factor. Where is my award for knowing that?
@Bella The Bunny's Channel I know but what I said it is not very difficult to discover talent. She didn't write the song, she didn't perform the song, she is not even his official manager so how is this a here accomplishment?
I'm very happy to hear that, I think it's an absolute masterpiece. In the Netherlands the song was popular at first but usnt played anymore, which is quite a shame.
still mad till this day we didnt win this. every year durring eurovision week you hear me complain at least once that 2014 shouldve been about music not about a beard
+Meint Veldman A 2nd place for a song that was completely anti-eurovision and the bookies put 30th on the bets is an amazing achievement nonetheless and shows that there are people with criteria among eurovision viewers.
+Anke Agasi IT'S A DUDE. He was wearing his beard, so he's a dude, that's it. I have no problem with transgenders whatsoever and I'm fine if a guy wants to become and be a woman, but don't go out on me by stating 'it's a girl with a beard', because that's where I drop the line.
I loved Austria more coz it put on a performance of a lifetime, but I also truly loved this song because it almost made me cry the first time I heard it.
Abigor115 Honey, this total rip-off should be disqualified in the first place. And secondly, this "song" has a quality of a funeral hymn, not a song for entertainment even by a long shot.
wieslawl59 entertainment is more than just happy clap a long songs and colorful stage performances, this is entertainment aswell, but only for people with taste ofcourse
@Daniëlle Snitjer Thanks. But actually, I didn’t want to know and I don’t want to remember. The „woman with a beard“ is actually a crossdresser. She’s a he with the artist name of „Conchita Wurst“ (Wurst meaning sausage in German) and his real name is Thomas and something. I’m pretty sure you can google it.
The Netherlands were robbed in the Eurovision that year. They were by far the best song. I love how The Netherlands never does any 'show', just pure good songs. It's good to see nations like Ireland and The Netherlands not resorting to embarrassing 'acts' to win it.
I'd put Start a Fire at the top, this second maybe based on the live (the studio performance I don't like). And Ireland resorted to a turkey a few years ago, plus Jedward.
starry2006 I think you missed the point with both 'Dustin the Turkey' and Jedward. It was poking fun at the other nations that were using silly acts to win and mentioning all the nations in the contest in order to win points. I think Sweden and the UK were the only ones to get that joke. It was lost on the rest of Europe. 'Start a fire' was a very good song too. Agree with you there. But it wasn't, in my opinion, as good as this one, but it was better than the winner.
The Netherlands is becoming a great Eurovision revival story. From not qualifying for the final for nine consecutive years, to a howling return to form with Anouk in 2013, then this superb near miss (which should have won) in 2014, followed by a well deserved victory in 2019. Delighted Ilse was Duncan's mentor too! A country delivering true quality at Eurovision, not brash gimmickry. A welcome change in every respect.
in almost every chart in europe this song achieved better rankings than the actual winner. there's no doubt about that this should have won this year's eurovision..
You need to think about the audience profile (amongst other things), before coming to a conclusion like 'there is no doubt......'. Eurovision attracts viewers of all ages (you can tell that this is the case since 50% of the jury are over 45). Charts, however, particularly downloads and particularly singles are the domain of the young.....The most popular song as judged by Eurovision audiences isn't necessarily the most popular song as judged by 20 year olds & younger.
being Austrian I am proud of Wurst...but for me, my personal opinion, this song is better...would have been a deserving winner. :) sometimes the second place is better than the first. Love you Netherlands.
Interesting how I have forgotten so many Eurovision winners and their songs already after a month.. But this song I remember again and again. And I even come to listen to RU-vid from time to time. There is something magical about this seemingly simple song... Thank you for this work of art!
The BEST performance of ESC ever: - (One of) the best songs - The most beautiful woman - The most magical performance - The best stage design Definitely in my top 5 XD
Still listen to this song in amazement. Its about as close as you can get to perfection. It still sends shivers down my spine and still gives me goosebumps.
Holland was so frikken good in 2014 damn, I don't know what Holland has with country music but they can pull it off quite well. Like with their 2016 song Slow Down
guys, I swear... I just teared up... Thank you for believing in it, a final without this song wouldn't have the right to be called a ''final''. Good Luck Holland. :')
This was such an unbelievable performance. As calm as the song is... my goodness, it’s SO full of energy! Gotta be the most understated song I’ve ever heard. That moment from 2:40 to 2:44? Pure magic. You can see the joy in the singers’ face, how they’re in the moment, enjoying making music. This is the kind of contageous authenticity that truly moves people.
Pure perfection. Sound, staging, and the melody.. it never gets old and almost immediately gives you that special romantic vibe which makes you dream, love, move. Maybe for some it’s way too melancholy.. but I believe it’s just ‘my cup of tea’, really
Deniz T. The poor child was just too nervous, the staging was terrible (We learned A LOT since then) and that indian thing she was wearing.. ouch.. butthe song was sweet and lovely
It's 2023 and i'm still listening to this song! Everything screams perfection the way they look at each other, the stage, the guitar solo ugh i just can't get enough of this song.. i already forgot what the Conchita Wurst song was about, but this song is still stuck in my mind.
SilverStrumer Well, we're slightly manically-depressed as a country. Same with our football, everyone thinks they're a better coach than the guy with the job, yet when we're actually at a championship we're all proud as hell if we win anything :P This song lacks a bit of a climax, but its innate quality is so addicting....
I’m a Mexican living in the US. This was the first Eurovision I streamed... I don’t even remember how I knew about it! But this is one of the most beautiful songs I’ve heard anywhere!
Being from Ireland, I hope this shows us that if you send a beautiful song, great lyrics, but a simple stage set up, nothing flashy, you can possibly win! It was incredible! Sickened it didn't win.
2011 - Last place in the semi final 2012 - 15th place in the semi final 2013 - 9th place in the final 2014 - RUNNERS UP! Wow, Netherlands, you went from last to second in just three years. I'm impressed!
Im sick of people comparing this song to Every breath you take. Because it is a 3 chord song, the beginning sounds the same, but it is a totaly different song. Every musician knows that. I just totaly love it. Also the Chemistry between the two of them
The biggest surprise of the evening for me. I found the studio version flat but this live performance was fantastic. They showed charisma and stage presence and sang beautifully, with emotion. Best semi-final 1 performance, IMO.
Probably one of Eurovision's biggest ever surprise packages. Nobody seen this coming at the beginning of the week. Now Netherlands are a go to country at the contest now, great to see.
Best comment I have read so far today on the internet about this song: "Imagine wandering through an endless desert of glitter, spinning wheels, bad english lyrics, tacky clothes, energetic dancers, etc... and suddenly you stumble upon a beautiful lake, with fresh, clear, cold water. The Netherlands is that lake."
It's completely silence while these two are performing. It's just.... Perfect! I believe every word they sing! These singers were absolutely my winners in 2014... How low can Eurovision sink?
Beautiful Beautiful Beautiful Song! This has got to win! The chemistry on stage is electric too! ... DOUZE points from Ireland xxxx Go Netherlands! - Amsterdam 2015!!
I'm happy that the Netherlands could qualify with a calm song again. The song is simply great. Really refreshing through all the ballads and pop music and without big special effects.
The fact people thought this entry would just barely miss the final before the rehearsals and then they won the semi final and then got 2nd, truly a underdog story.
I was one too. :) From the first hearing i knew this was one of the songs not only to qualify but also to rank high. (Hey i made a rhyme,heheh...). Good luck from Greece,i'm voting for The calm. :)
Over smaak valt niet te twisten. Ik vond het een best optreden ze zagen er geweldig uit en de song vond ik goed. Tweede plaats is toch ook mooi?Ze hebben het dik verdiend .
That song from Justin Bieber Rybak was everything but good, pop some melody without any decent vocals and there you go, a winner, don't ever measure this song with that ebola song ever again, this is the best song Eurovision ever had.
I guess this song was too good for Eurovision...Well done, the Netherlands, still listening to this song at least once per month, 5 years and counting. That what power of the song is!
