This project started out as a simple Splatfest overview where I share my pick for each one. But as per usual, I couldn't stop my self from making the video more elaborate. I ended up making an entire timeline, lore and games overview video, albeit a bit rushed. If I had known that the video was gonna get this traction, I would've done it more thorough. Still, thank you very much for all the support! You may notice that much of the script is copied from the Splatoon Wiki. This was to save time so I have enough to make the Splatfest picks videos before Splatoon 3 comes out. Huge thanks to the Splatoon Wiki for the information! I realized shortly after releasing the video that I missed out on some important lore, specifically the lore of Pearl and Marina and how they tied into the story of Octo Expansion. Another thing I missed out on is how they receive the themes for each Splatfest. I'll do my best to include it in my upcoming video about Splatfests picks and results. there is a little detail you missed cause it is not just Agent 8 that changed sides from hearing Calamari Inkantation, from the Splatoon 1 final boss battle it was the majority of Octolings (a subspecies of Octarians), that is why Marina was the first friendly Octoling we meet she used to be a member of DJ Octavio's army

like you, I never really paid attention to Splatoon and since I never owned a wii u I completely missed out on Splatoon. I got into the series slightly after Splatoon 2's final splatfest so I've never been able to experience a single splatfest and that's what I'm super excited about!!
Yes you should! I didn’t play the first game, but Splatoon 2 has to be my favorite game, the whole series is amazing. The soundtrack is so beautiful too, I would listen to it everyday when I was obsessed with Splatoon. I haven’t played in a while but I’m hoping to play the 3rd game more once it releases.
As someone who loves the lore of this game almost more than the gameplay, this is a great video!! It’s perfect for people who are new to the series to catch up, or people who are already fans to learn more about the lore.

thanks for the timeline. I just kinda finished the stories of 1 and 2. Im late to the party too and I didnt wanna play the Story mode in Splatoon 3 without knowing the lore and story modes of the first games. so thank you for this video. made it easier to understand everything. cant wait to become a part of the community. (and hopefully Im having fun)

I remember when I was younger and I thought that Agents 1 and 2 being the Squid Sisters was the most surprising/shocking piece of lore I would’ve discovered, despite it being incredibly obvious. If I showed this video to 9yo me she would’ve had an aneurysm
I know every single little piece of lore! Splatoon almost is 10 years old! Can't believe it came out in 2015, when I was around 7 years old, now I am 14, and I'm still in the series!
Same! Growing up with the franchise has been a delight,even seeing the old clips now made me tear up a little And now that splatoon 3 is out and those storylines come together as they call it “the three lights” is the best we could have wished for

I've played all the games, started Octo Expansion, and downloaded the Splat 3 Testfire- gonna get Splat 3 when it comes out in a few weeks. Started playing Splat in 2016, then S2 in 2017, OE in 2021 and S3 in 2022- God I feel old.
Fun Fact: Callie isn't actually brainwashed this was a translation error done by Nintendo America and the second battle against octavio in splatoon 2's story mode is not really canon + Callie and the other octarian's are actually fed propaganda by octavio to keep them under his control
Source? Because if she was somehow convinced and not brainwashed, it would make zero sense for her to suddenly switch sides because she doesn't have her shades.
to be honest, i wouldnt really care if humanity went extinct, BUT, only if these two facts were proved. 1. reincarnation 2. squids evolving into inklings, same with octolings. THEN, we all would be reincarnated into any form of marine life of land ex. the inkling and octolings.

I missed splat 1 but I played a vast majority of splat 2 fests. It was so much fun! So many fond memories with friends. Hopefully splat 3 doesnt disappoint, because so far, its wonderful. The tide goes out, and comes back in. So its far from over!
I love this video, however i have one problem with this: The way humanity died. As much as i want to know how they ACTUALLY died, we can't use the comic in the Artbook since it was just a concept. Concepts don't count as part of the lore since they're just ideas who got scrapped. Otherwise we have to account the rest of the comic too, which has a different story
In 2018, I used to play the DLC game of Splatoon 2 octo expansion on the Nintendo Switch and I loved to be the part of the Splatoon series to me like some blessed Nintendo player ever. 🙂

All of the good memories I had with these games just came back. I was vibing to every boss theme that played in this video and enjoyed every second of the video. I can't wait to get my hands on Splatoon 3 and finally be able to play more splatfests again. I didn't even know that there was a splatfest premiere or that splatoon 3 was even coming out this year so I missed out on a lot, but thank god youtube shorts clutched up and threw me a video of splatoon 3.
This is an amazingly made video: awesome pacing, commentary, and even sound mixing! It was a great choice to let the clips from the game speak for themselves rather than always inserting commentary like so many tend to do. I'll be sending this to all my friends to try and get them to play splatoon >:)
Nintendo goofed up. In splatoon 3, they said the current agent is agent 3 while that's agent 5 cause 1 and 2 is Callie and Marie, 3 and 4 is splatoon 1 and 2, 6 and 7 is pearl and marina and 8 is the octoling
pearl and marina are never stated to be part of the squidbeak splatoon, so the agent 6 and agent 7 titles are not filled by anyone - also, nintendo didnt goof up, agent 3 from splatoon 1 is the new captain of the squidbeak splatoon in splatoon 3, leaving the agent 3 title open for the new agent 3, our protagonist in splatoon 3

Amazing job! I will definitely recommend this to any friends who I want to show splatoon lore to. There are some smaller facts not mentioned here for anyone watch Pearl and Marina's backstory The Octarian bunker/dome's being leftover from Humans Octolings escaping the underground to live on the surface as inklings, inklings do not recognize them as octolings and think they're just weird squids. Inklings in general are pretty dumb and mostly just care about trends/fashion and sports. Octarian Hypno-Glasses Salmon Run lore (especially the fallen spaceship Splatfest choices are from a 12K year old human printer, printing out "divine messages" (signals that have bounced back to earth after 12K years). Animal variants of the many evolved species (like monkeys to humans) do still exists and are consumed, even by those they are related to (Inklings eat squid and octopus, there's a shrimp person who sells you shrimp). There's also a possible third variant: species that look like their current day counterparts but have human level intelligence, speaking abilities and can live on land, as suggested by Moe the Clownfish, Nails the Pet Snail, Craymond the Emperor Shrimp and Harmony's unnamed dying clownfish.... unless all the animalistic variants are also intelligent like them which makes things even darker...
I didn’t get the Wii U but I joined the splatoon community shortly after splatoon 2 was released and I played the heck out of it. Can’t wait for splatoon 3
I also was late to Splatoon 2 unfortunately, and missed the splatfests, but I preordered Splatoon 3 and plan to play it day one so I don’t miss out on the fun

Still bums me out we lost the final Splat2 fest. Imagine the aesthetic of 3 with Order, like Mirrors Edge style or something. Never been a fan of the mad max aesthetic.
I've been catching up on the lore for the past couple of days and now after watching this video ands its splatfest community and fun I think i might just have to buy splatoon 3 cause it sounds like a fun community to join at the current time. And i need something fresh to play And after watching a playthrough of splatoon 3 the lore they've added is VERY interesting and i'm excited for the dlc and other content we've yet to find

Feel like you forgot to mention Pearl and Marina coming into contact with 8 and Cuttlefish (unless I'm tired and didn't notice lol in which case sorry) Yeah, technically they're shown in the footage, but to someone who hasn't played it'd probably be confusing to see them suddenly recognizing them and showing up without the proper mention beforehand Also, as others have said, Off the Hook's backstories (especially Marina's) have more to them than what is mentioned here Good video for the most part though

Something else to note is EVERY online turf war battle is cannon to the story. On a separate note, you got some things wrong with the lore due to certain localization choices for the English version of the game. I would recommend that you take a look at rassicas’ videos. They have played a huge role in accurately translating the Japanese version of the lore, and talking about what the English speaking part of Nintendo got wrong. As someone who has had a splatoon hyperfixation for 7 years, I really found their videos helpful for completely understanding the splatoon lore. Edit: fixed grammar errors.
one thing you missed in the octo expansion is that pearl and marina were communicating via radio with cappn cuttlefish. the only reason that agent three freed agent 8 and cappn cuttlefish from the blender is because marina sent a distress signal to agent 3.

I didnt do the splatfests much so im looking forward to splatoon 3, which is friday! I like how they decide how the story mode will be based on splatfests. It makes the community have choice of what type of game splatoon is.
pretty sure in splatoon 2 with the pages u can see that the pressure of fame was getting to callie and im pretty sure she doesnt “mind” the octarians unlike marie who hates them
Amazing video! I now have something to link people joining in Splat 3 who dont know the lore! I think the lore plays a huge part in enhancing the enjoyment of the next story mode and even catching references that get thrown in on other parts like Splatfest dialogue. I have to ask.. what's your favorite idol? Mine is Callie!
Fun fact the nils statue is a modded Statue of Liberty and after it’s destroyed it hangs out in the middle of the bay. You see it on the last splatfest stage and hammerhead bridge (in splatoon 3)
I didn’t play through the games but I did watch my friend play and it was super cool! I’m a newbie so I’m really excited for Splatoon 3! Next Friday is the day! Yay! 🥳🥳🥳🥳🥳💖💖💖 Also, this is unrelated but Bomb Rush Blush is one of the best songs from the series and no one can change my mind lol.
