How thoroughly adorable! I've never seen these before. Then again, having lived in Canada all my life may help explain that. Silly little Willy Weasel!

Lovely. They used to repeat these even when I was a child in the early 1980s. Makes me recall being an innocent child. If that ball had been mine and it burst I'd still get a slap off Mum and then later she'd buy another one...be honest, Mums usually did that sort of thing back then.

this video scared three people. but they held their mummys hand and felt safe again.

I was a member of the Tufty club and had a badge and handkerchief but it obviously didn't have any effect as I did exactly the same thing as Willie Weasel with the ice cream van.

@LinziScot Thanks for posting a sensible comment. I too, was a member. These films put the willies up me - especially the kite vs pylon one and the frisbee deaths. The thing is that they WORKED. What is there now?

There used to be a cel-animated PFI pertaining to the Tufty Club designed to educate young children on road safety. PIFMAN092 used to hold such a PIF, but now its inaccessible. If anyone remembers this PIF, please shoutout whenever possible.

i remember all these well, brings back memories of a differant age and time, plus Charley says which as you say in the info was also the cream of the ads. great video 5*

@Cool2BCeltic What exactly is patronising? If you are really 45, then you will remember that tons of this educational 'shite' was on out TVs constantly during the 70s - not to patronise, but to educate. In the main, it worked. They were called 'public information films' and are now much sought after, and sadly missed.

I never thought of that before.... lol - perhaps that was the message all along!!

All of these Tufty films are on my 'Charley Says' DVD. I remember a modernised version of Tufty as a kid.

I seem to remember Tufty appearing in black-and-white stop motion adverts in the sixties. Are they known to survive? And was amused to see how these cleverly these colour ones were used in TUFTY THE SQUIRREL IS VERY NAUGHTY as wasn't sure how much of that classic was made with original footage. the guy in the car is obviously in shock, and has no insurance, and probably drug driving going by his retinas..

Apparently, there were some last minute legal wrangles over the use of child actors, because of some Health and Safety based concerns. This led to the parts of the youngesters being played by adults of dimutive stature. Tufty himself was a 22 year old from Basildon. Or so I've heard. Sorry, in a bit of a daft mood today ;-)

Seriously though, Tufty was aimed at the 4-9 age group, so I guess that was his age. I put the frighteners on me when I was young, I can tell you!! (life was simpler in the 1970s....!)
