We share with you how much the adventure to Spain has cost. Use this as a planning tool for your own adventure... Its a long vlog.. So crack open a beer xxx
Hi mark & judy thanks for sharing this film. Spain is on our list in the future so we were so pleased you did this break down of the cost. Thanks Phil & Juliet. 👍👍
Hi Mark n Judy, My wife and I have been watching your videos for over 12 months you have inspired us so much we are almost on our way to following our dream thank you.
Congratulations 🎊 to you you will the lifestyle wardenning gives u... And having winter off is the best bit... Keep in touch any questions please ask.. We are on a UK road trip currently as we had to cancel our plans to Spain this year... But we are having a great time xx
Thank you so much for the work you put in to give us all the costs. It gives us an idea as to whether we can afford it or not!! Keep the vlogs coming, always look forward to them.
Thanks Carol... You could easily cut the food costs down.. How I wish I could cook 😂... Friends of ours also spent 4k too for comparison... They eat in mainly and stayed extra 2 weeks longer than us xx
It is especially all the hidden costs like the miscellaneous and caravan extras costs and the debit card charges what a rip off they are.. Certainly will help us too now we've broke it all down xx
Thanks so much for that were are glad we can help out and give you some ideas. Please let us know how you get on and maybe see you out here on a sunbed one winter xxx
Thanks for this breakdown of expenses it will give us an idea when we do our adventure. My hubby is starting the conversion now so hopefully he will finish in 3 to 4 wks time.
Thanks for everything you have shared. We always look forward to your videos. We have our house on the market and once we have moved hope to spend some time over the winter in Spain. Not sure how brave I'll be to do the drive though! - Lin xx
Hey you too how r u? You will throughly love Spain and I hear France is great too although never stayed there but we certainly hope to soon... Driving is so much easier abroad even I have ago Judy and Mark xxx
Hi Judy and Mark, what a great vlog. I'm soo glad I've found you guys. My wife is recovering from cancer at the moment. I am trying to encourage her to spend our winters in Spain in a motorhome. Life is too short. You are both very down to earth and dare I say "normal" lol. Which make the vlogs even more inspirational. Thanks again for posting. Simon :) x
Sorry to hear Simon sending our best to you both... Spain is a great place to spend winters and the people you'll meet are fab and that's why we do it mainly.... However this year may be very different to what it's usually like if we even get there... What will be will be... It'll be a last minute decision.. Just hope we can see family firsttly as not seen majority since March 😔 xx
Great vid you guys. Very interesting. You done well to keep a record of everything 👍👍 Too true about spending 4 grand in a fortnight, easily done. Problem is to get time off to spend all winter away ! Ha ho I day 🤞🏻🤞🏻
Enjoyed your journey, looking forward to seeing your next trip, we are ex caravaners, but maybe we will go back to touring in the next couple of years, thanks for all the information you’ve shared, Happy camping, cheers Rog and Jax. 🏌🏽♂️👩🏻🎨🍻🏖👍
Just over 4 grand for everything is very good and visiting lots of nice places. Yes you are right people do spend that amount on two or three weeks holiday, good luck for this coming season.
Great Vlog, really enjoy them. We’ve just come back from 4.5 months down in Spain & can really relate to your findings. We used our Halifax Clarity card for fuel, tolls & campsite fees but once there, drew a weekly amount of cash according to our budget & paid for everything during the week with cash. It really helps keep a handle on spending, as when flashing the plastic its so easy to go over budget. Won’t say we never went over but found it really helped. Well done & thanks for sharing.
Hi Both - really interesting. For 2 weeks in Greece for 4 adults bed and breakfast - so still lunch and evening meal to pay (in August).......£3300. Next year we are definitely taking the caravan to France as no teenagers will want to do that ha! What you've done look fab. Thanks
I know didn't even think this till mark came out with it... Comparing a 2 week family hol to a winter in spain... Of course you need to be able to have winter off work or work from anywhere xx
Hi there, Thank you for the video - it is really useful to get a better idea of the sort of costs you need to think about. On the subject of cards, we have used the Post Office Travel Money Card and it works really well. You charge up the card at the Post Office before you go and you can top up while you are away, using the App on your mobile phone. It is a Mastercard and we did not have any problems with shops and garages accepting the card when we were in Spain - so well worth a look. Enjoyed your living abroad series and hope all goes well for you back in the UK. We are planning a Europe trip soon in our campervan and have started our own youtube channel so we can share our adventures as well!
Thanks for the advice... That's what this is all about sharing all the little tips between us.. Wish you all the best and good luck with your channel... Will be watching to pick up tips from you xxx
For cash we use a Halifax Clarity card. Commercial rate and no charges to withdraw cash from any ATM. Pay off immediately for no interest charges but with a monthly DD arrangement max interest is still only 1%. Much cheaper than taking cash with you.
Hi Guys.. my wife and I follow your channel even though we don't have a caravan we still visit Spain a lot. Really enjoyed the places you visited. Relating to Mark and his beer!
Hi Judy and mark ,great vlog as usual ,just wondered if you had looked at using a Travelex card ,i have used them in france and the USA ,just load them up with the currency of the country you visit and use it like a debit card, you can top it up by phone when and if needed.
Hi Debs... Are we on a par with your spends? We think it was OK.. Like to do bit less next trip but going for longer and over xmas so may be quite hard xxx
Hi guys yes you were .... the only difference was we spent more On tolls but we had a limited time away .... interesting we did a similar Thing with food shopping and eating it near roughly 50 50 also 😊
Thats a nice comment glad it comes across like that as thats how we are - we like good value for money dont pay for parking ever and love Primark ha ha xx
Hi both great help with your costing tips etc it’s all about enjoying what you have and how you use it or spend it! if your back in Spain next year year (2021) please visit us we’re just outside Guardamar, there is a cracking campsite hook ups etc! It is by the beach in La Marina you walk through a pine Forrest down onto the beach 🏖 oh yea there a beech hut bar on the beach as well result! 😎 great vid as always Rob n Maria 👦👩🏻🦰 & Odin the white German shepherd👀
Hi both, we will be on a very tight budget this winter, we hope to go mid Nov till March 2021. Mar Menor them Mojacar. We will look at the campsite sounds great. If you email us our account is gypsysoulstour@hotmail.com - so its easy to refer and we can get you on our whats app then...yes we hope to do a big meet up with fellow campers in Spain as its Marks 50th a time for a beer xxxx
Great video, thanks very much. I am planning a similar trip to Spain next year, back to France again this year. Quite right about debit cards but it's surprising how many people do use them. I use the Halifax Clarity Mastercard for purchases, meals, fuel, supermarket etc. with no fees or interest but it does charge daily interest on cash withdrawals. Therefore I use a Barclaycard Platinum for Visa card cash withdrawals. It's got no fees or interest as long as balance is paid off in full. Remember too, if not using cash, always pay for meals, shopping, fuel etc. in local currency, not Sterling. Same for cash withdrawals at ATM’s, always choose local currency. If you choose Sterling you'll get a very poor exchange rate. I too use the ACSI card and I got it here in the UK.
Hi thanks for info.. We have a platinum visa which don't use but Mark read up on that but we couldn't rem the pin 😂 will get that for next time... Yep we do that always local currency forgot to mention that xx
We've been to Woodlands many, many times, and we've met you two (do you remember us lol). Please tell me, how do you get internet and Netflix in your caravan??? It's the only thing we miss when we go away, we're Netflix addicts, and it's good to have on those rainy days. Loving these vlogs, keep em coming. Debbie x
Santander do not charge for cash withdrawals but it has to be their cash machine. No charges for credit card spend either. There are some rules with regards monthly income
Even paying fees to withdraw cash will still work out cheaper than taking cash exchanged in the UK as you get a better rate. Better still there are debit cards that don't charge for cash withdrawal.
Hi Both I'e been enjoying your vlogs. Just a thought about money/cards. We use the Caxton Card (there are others similar) you load euros direct from your bank account. There are no cash withdrawal charges at ATM's and in the shops you just pay as with any other plastic card. There is an app for your phone or you can go online to load your card. We've tended to keep about £500 pounds on the card and only about £100 cash in our pockets and this has worked well for a few years. I'm not sure if the exchange rates are better than the fees on the credit card you use, but you might find it a useful addition. Keep up the good work. Regards, Anne
Good info... Will get mark to look into it.. Our friends also used a new type of card out now called starling... So going to look into that too as, all the little costs add up xx
You done well with the camp site fees, I went on a Chalet, B/B and camping to Italy last Holiday, a 2500 mile drive around and camped Lake Garda at 45 Euros per night plus a tourist tax on top, my cost for whole 21days traveling around for 3 weeks was £1,800........thanks for the comparison .........
Love it. Also you would have obviously bought food at home so the real additional cost is actually lower. We are hoping to do this in the future so its really useful to see what it cost you etc. Dont give Mark such a hard time about the occasional beer ;)
Thanks for the the information very useful.glad you had a nice time in spain.Hope to get too your site end of June and meet up and get my window sticker 😉👍
Love your vlogs!! I’ve been following/catching up from your past postings. We’re Americans (don’t hold that against us 😳) but would love to catch up with you in Spain /France sometime post-COVID!! Until we actually meet, take care.
Hi Debbie - that would be great the best part about doing these vlogs is the fantastic friends weve made and yes lets do that after this horrible virus has done one xx e
Hi Judy & Mark. Nice to see you both again, a very good breakdown on costs and without knowing it the miscellaneous purchases do add up if you don't keep an eye on them (from experience 😄) With you staying for around 3 months touring and staying in Spain would it work out cheaper going from Dover to Calais and taking a longer drive down through France into Spain?
Hey Steve... Those little costs do add up and what did we spend 110.00 pounds on well all I can rem is 2 blankets slippers lightbulbs a bin and a trug thing to do my washing in!!! 😂... We are in Devon right by Plymouth or Poole so would seem a bit daft to drive to Dover... Wish we could as shorter crossing for summer but longer drive for Mark xx
Gypsy Souls Judy Mark and Summer Makes sense I suppose with being based in Devon . But I'd rather have a shorter crossing and take a longer drive as the motorways in France are so good and besides the tolls they are easy to drive on a lot better than ours😄 but that's my own preference and a bit of a tight git 😂 keep the vlogs coming your both doing a great job at them. See ya soon....
Hi guys a good break down of the cost for your hoilday and was expecting the cost to b more I think foe 80 days is good I don't think it counts for battery and solar controller as it's part of van which u would of change anyway at some point so really u done well better than I thought see u on next vlog .kev
Hello Kev.... Its great for us too see where our money went so we will use this for next trip and try and cut some of the categories down ie the miscellaneous!! Mark was going to add another solar panel this year but tbh it was fine just topping up on mains when required... And the campsite had a plug for my hair straightners I was so relieved!! Little things 😂.... I do a projected forecast of potential savings for this season which I've done based on our wages last year so hopefully if all goes to plan we're on target with the budget... As I've said we do have a fab plan for next year if we can pull it off so max savings are paramount... It'll make for some great vlogs... Fingers crossed xxx
When you get robbed in service station rest areas, ----no body about?, the scallywags that work there see you leave your caravan, and know you are safely away, then when the coast is clear do their stuff, then raise the alarm that you have finnished your meal, and you are coming back, thats why no ones about. Love your reports, best wishes John and Sue Smith we hope to do what you now do.
Noone around at 2.30am we were in bed however they didnt bargain on me being awake with a terrible cold - thank god really or it could have been worse - glad I had that christmas cold! x
I take about €600 in cash..best rate back in Edinburgh was a the local pawnbrokers ! I also use weswap. Had about €2000 on that to pay camp sites and the shop usually at lidl. .we only eat out about 3 - 4 times a month, so our food shop is bigger. I'd say that supermarket food will cost us about €1100 for 16 weeks ( 112 days ) and eat and drinks out €640. That's about €1130 for 73 days.
Merci Judy and Mark for a very usefull vidéo 😉 you know where i live if you need Somewhere to stay in France....i do have a driveway for your caravan...😉😘
Thanks for the offer... But there will be three vans as we're in convoy again... However may hold you to that offer due to our little plan we are working on for next year... 😉 Xxx
@@gypsysoulsjudymark.escapet7388 Ok Judy 😉 merci for all your very good vidéos. Have you put your Big awning up? I have been using the acsi Book for many years👏
Check out this card. Revolut. I have used it for years. Currency transfers on your card at bank base rate and you can have several currencies on the same card. It’s pre pay so no worry about cloned cards. Connect to phone for spending history. All my staff now have Revolut cards rather than standard bank cards. Used between trips in uk and Europe.
Hi, excellent video, breaking it all down is really helpful, not sure if you included how much gas you used?,we,re looking at doing this as soon as we can & your videos are always good to watch, also what is the name of card & books you mention, I,m having trouble making out the writing on my phone lol
Good question re gas... As you recall we bought a Spanish gas bottle for 8 euros at a local market for exchange... I want to say we changed it 3 times.. For around 14 euros... Always buy gas at supermarkets in Spain much cheaper than garages... Marks asleep so can't check but if its wrong I'll let you know. We also had a full English calor bottle too... Which we still have and still has gas in...xx
Oh the camping card is acis and comes with the book for all campsites who take the card over UK and Europe... Great discounts on nightly rates... But check the campsite doesn't offer better rates on their own costings ie if you stay over 30 nights... Acis card is great for few nights stop overs x
Hi mark and Judy and summer love watch ur vlogs and seeing wht u all got up to in Spain and mark have u tryed eBay for ur caravan part u need as my mum and dad have the same van as u and there are lots of spares on there if u look as I just got them a door of it
Hi Alison... Yes Mark looked on ebay but nothing so far will keep looking over the months... Need to get it repaired soon to ensure damp doesn't creep in... Sealed temporarily for now... How daft the part isn't readily available particularly a corner!! Xx
Hello Mark & Judy 😜👍 ....looks like you have settled in back in good ole blighty interesting vlog some great info bit surprised you hadn't already got a ACSI card ......oh and by the way i know this miscellaneous she cost me a fortune and gave me a nasty rash 😒 ......see you soon your old brummie mates mick & jill 😘👍🏍
Hi both... Great to hear from you... I know those Chinese supermarkets are a nightmare go in for a look and end up spending 20 euros!! Couldn't even tell u on what not going in them ever again!!! Get saving Mick and u can take Jill to Spain... See ya there xxx
5000 views per video, that's £250 a month or 3 grand a year. You should deffo consider monetizing videos! All the effort that goes into your quality content!
But it's taxable you have to reg as self employed and RU-vid take 45%... Too much hassle and would lose the fun in it... Taxman can go jump he's had enough off us 😂... We do it cause we enjoy it but thanks anyway xxx
hi both , a brilliant breakdown ... and inspiring me to make a effort to do the travel. i use .. jon@jonsprintshop.com he may be able to help on stickers etc very good service. jon did my stickers and mugs .. so work hard this summer and save .. cheers x
