Many think that the abuse of children in the Hare Krishna ISKCON gurukul schools is a thing of the past. Unfortunately the abuse continues as this documentary by produced by Sanaka dasa who was raised in ISKCON gurukuls in Italy and in India shows.
"The Cost of Silence" exposes the frightening fact that the same ISKCON management that presided over the massive abuse of Hare Krishna children in the 80's and 90's is still in power and they are still protecting the child abusers and continue to put the known child abusers and pedophiles in positions of responsibility in ISKCON where they have full access to children.
Child abuse has been particularly common in the ISKCON Indian gurukul schools at Mayapur and Vrindavan. Hare Krishna devotees send their children to these international gurukuls thinking they will be getting a spiritual education but the unfortunate reality can be quite different.

Gurukula is the traditional Vedic system of education for boys. Boys are sent to gurukula at the age of five and they are trained in spiritual life and practical knowledge as well. Srila Prabhupada introduced the Gurukula system in America in Dallas, Texas, and since then ISKCON have established many gurukula schools both in India and around the world. Unfortunately often the children are exploited in the ISKCON gurukulas and many young children's lives have been ruined in this way.
