Do you just use your phone for the boarding pass ? I thought you had to have them, and have been getting them printed out at the airport.

@@martygras378 I typically use a mobile boarding pass, but you can get them printed at the airport. No “resort fee” to do it. These resorts charge fees for things most people don’t even use. I’d rather pay extra for the gym when I actually decide to use it, rather than being charged whether I use it or not

Seriously, I don't ever use a single one of the things they say the fee is for. Not only has my cell phone and unlimited data plan taken over most of them but it works faster too. For fun I looked up the price of a gym membership, Paramount+, Pressreader, etc and even if they bought a new laserjet for each room to print boarding passes every month it would cost under $300 per room total without any bulk discounts they surely get. But somehow they need to collect close to $1500 per room per month to be able to provide those? If they want to just collect more money from their customers they should at least have the courtesy to just list higher prices instead of this utter BS. This and the parking fees is the biggest reason why I haven't stayed on strip for years and why I don't even visit it that often anymore. There are better options off-strip that don't insult you with this nickel and diming.

I used to go to Vegas all the time. The resort fees have left a bad taste for me. It's something that I don't want to continue to support if I don't have to. Others are free to do what they want.

I'll just look elsewhere to vacation that is better bang for the buck (in other states or do other things like theme parks or island destinations). Vegas used to be a deal getaway and would entice people to come gamble by making other expenses cheaper like room/board, shows and food. That's no longer the case. They even charge for parking, something unheard back then. Vegas is not the only game in town.... pun intended

So nice to see the Rio coming back from the dead. While it will never be what it was, it's quickly becoming a better alternative to anything on the Strip. Hopefully other hotels will see this, and take notice. Vegas should always be about the consumer. Excellent update yet again Jacob

Look at TOTAL COST. You'll find that TOTAL COST of casinos with resort fees is the SAME as TOTAL COST of casinos without resort fees. Why? Because casinos without resort fees charge a much HIGHER ROOM RATE to make up for not having resort fees. They're NOT STUPID.

If the Rio had NO resort fees, they’d be booked solid and well on the way back to their heyday! With no resort fees, I’d stay there as that’d offset the cost of Uber or taxi to the strip and back if I wanted to go. That said, a few years ago, I checked into The Orleans and didn’t leave the property for a week, everything I needed was right there. So if Rio provides what it’s customers need in-house, there will be people like me who check in and don’t leave until they head for the airport. If I owned the Rio, that’s what I’d do. And free parking, obvs. Then others will come visit and stay longer too. That’d put pressure on other hotels to pull their heads in too!

I never understood the point of the resort fee. Why not just raise the price of the room and cut out the hidden fee which pisses people off? So if the room is $100, instead of whacking them with $40 in fine print, just make the room $140 and call it a day.

They’re also (or once were) a tax dodge. Hotel doesn’t have to asses the local occupancy tax, so they keep more of the total dollar paid by the guest.

The way it's set up now, the casinos reward heavy gamblers by waiving the resort fee. For instance, Caesars Diamond and above members don't pay resort fees. If those fees were made illegal, they would have to come up with something else as an incentive.

Steak 'n shake, a midwest staple that is much cheaper there. A single burger is about as thick as a napkin, you are basically paying $3 for the drink and getting fries and the burger thrown in for a buck each. A nice little snack to tide you over, but only filling for a small american child, or large asian adult.

I stayed 5 nights in Palazzo on 1/1. They charged me $18 parking on top of the $50 resort fee. The swimming pool door didn't even open. I didn't have a chance to wet my feet. This is the last straw for me to move on to another hotel.

I was not happy with the Corporation of Vegas at the end of the 2000s. It was begining to get overly expensive then. After a 2021 trip where the cost provided just about nothing but the same quality of room I got in the 2000s. I have no interest in going back for more than a day. I'll stop on my way thru and sleep in Kingman or Williams instead.

Great informative video. On the subject of resort fees: if people keep coming to Vegas, they must be willing to pay them. A $37 resort fee at that dump called the Excalibur is hilarious and unbelievable.

What is more unbelievable that with no players club card a room for two nights Friday & Saturday of Superbowl weekend at the Excalibur was $998 this was before the playoffs. Now $1512 for the two nights! Not sure if it includes that $37 resort fee.

The reason for the increase in the illegal resort fees, I believe, is because they know those fees are coming to an end as the lawsuits for deceptive advertising work their way through the legal system and the DOJ is close to stepping in! Hopefully, the fines and the lawsuits will sting like a Whale burning down the house! How much in ‘unexpected’ overrun costs will the boondoggle train project run? 100%? 200%?!

Congratulations, your room rate just went from $200 a night to $245 but there's no resort fee! Woot! I hate resorts fees as much as the next person but they won't just give up the cash flow. They will 100% disperse it elsewhere.

Hi from NZ Jacob, we love your work!! So, from a visitor's view, it messes with my budget when resort fees are raised, parking fees added, etc. It's bad enough for us overseas visitors when we have to stand there and do a tax calculation before every purchase, because it isn't just included in the displayed or ticket price!! You get to the counter and have to pay way more. (And tips...no, I'm not moaning about tips!). Why, don't you just show the real price USA, just why? I don't get the lack of transparency. Here in NZ, and Australia and elsewhere Ive been, taxes and all fees are included in the total price, the first price you see. I mean, that's the whole meaning of Total.

Thank god in Australia we don't tip as venues pay a living wage. Americans always pay tax seperate from the price which is kind of cute, we in Australia forget how much tax we pay unless you look at the bottom of the receipt. ❤

Before you book a stay at Four Queens, compare their price with comparable hotels like The D, Fremont Hotel, Plaza, California, El Cortez. You'll find the total cost at those places nearly identical to what you're going to pay at Four Queens.

Jacob. As a regular visitor from the UK I get great info from your video's. It is really pissing me of though that hotels are still charging more and more each year for resort fees, so I don't know how many more times I will visit Vegas after this year. An avg strip hotel cost increase of +35% is ridiculous even just for that month. Thanks for all the good work. Steve. C.

Avoid American holiday dates and major conventions throughout the year. Casino websites show hotel prices in their booking calendars. Surge pricing is an indicator that its either holiday dates or major convention dates.

Las Vegas has become expensive even flying to Las Vegas from New York is more expensive than flying to California like (lax, San Diego, Sacramento..) resort fees and parking is also expensive. Laughlin Nevada and mesquite NV are the places I go to these days

I’m from England and have flown back today from what was my 18th trip to Vegas. I’m used to coming to LV for 7-14 days but with the price of the resort fees it’s becoming too expensive to do longer holidays. I don’t want local and domestic calls. I don’t want newspapers or printing of boarding cards. I just want to visit my favourite city but these fees are making it unnecessarily expensive

I hate resort fees and the Federal Government won't compensate for my attending a meeting where there is a fee. As such, I now stay at places with no fee - is that the result that the resorts want? Guess so.

@@theejayzeeable I am aware of three conferences that I used to attend that no longer will go to Las Vegas because of the resort fees. As I stated, the Federal Government won't pay resort fees. I can stay at non-resort fee hotels for the same or less cost than resort fee hotels - and I don't have to pay the resort fee out of my own pocket. I understand what they are doing, but it will prevent me from hosting in Vegas or attending in the future. Same for Orlando - had to find a place without resort fees as they are not covered.

I checked what my “resort fees” paid for. Apparently having a phone in the room, having access to a small gym, and being able to have them print out my airplane boarding pass qualified it as a resort. The first 2 are pretty much every single hotel, and the last one takes 30 seconds to check in on my phone and get a digital boarding pass. Embarrassing what they force us to pay for.

The resort fee has nothing to with giving you full access to the facility..for ex..fitness center. Like 12 years ago, hotel got charged a new tax. They passed that on to the customer and called it a rêsort fee.

I may be done with Vegas. I'm just getting the idea that the town just doesn't want low rollers anymore. Also, with that damn F1 race being in November, I can't make my normal birthday trip. (Too expensive, and I don't want to deal with the chaos that is the F1 crowds and other mayhem.) Things are just becoming ridiculously expensive. It makes me sad.

Look at TOTAL COST. You'll find that TOTAL COST of casinos with resort fees is the SAME as TOTAL COST of comparable casinos without resort fees. Why? Because casinos without resort fees charge a much HIGHER ROOM RATE to make up for not having resort fees. They're NOT STUPID. But outside of holidays or major events/conventions, Vegas total cost is still reasonable, especially in Downtown Vegas. But if ur looking for a bargain, yeah, not happening. Vegas transitioned to an amusement park business model 20 yrs ago.

@@theejayzeeable Dude, chill. Damn... I completely understand that. I'm mostly talking about everything ELSE. Food, beverages, entertainment... It's just getting ridiculous. Last time I was there I got charged $8 for a bottle of water. Stupid. Sure, if I had been near enough to a Walgreens or CVS there are cheaper alternatives. I'm just getting to the point where I might start looking elsewhere.

Resort fees are going to match room rates soon! I love how the properties give room offers with dining credit, but you are still paying for it in the end.

They do this to make the rooms both seem cheaper and they also do not have to share the resort fees with travel sites. They just keep coming up with new ways to pass all of the costs onto the consumer. Check in before 4, pay me. Check out after 11, pay me. Having a land line that you never use, pay me. Who prints boarding passes at the hotel anymore? Is that really an "amenity"? Newspaper and magazine downloads? The last time I stayed at Caesar's in the off-season the fitness center wasn't even open because of "low guest demand". They didn't offer a discount on the room fee. Many of us are choosing to spend our vacation money elsewhere. But clearly (from the numbers you showed) more people are still going.

More people are going because the last few years Vegas has been getting a lot of first timers from foreign countries, not sure if they'll be repeat customers dealing with resort fees and charges for parking.

I don’t use any of that shit they charge the resort fees for… and now at Caesar’s I can’t pay for a day pass at QUA… wasn’t very happy with my trip last in Dec 2023; might be another 3 years before I get back to Vegas… other things to do!

I think its crazy that the A's are going from one of the largest stadiums to the smallest...If you are going to build a stadium, then make it of sufficient size. Of course you aren't dealing w/the smartest or best owner either.

Theyre not dumb. They'll just double the price of everything, and profits from 25k fans will equal profits from 50k fans. Most Vegas residents probably dont know the pricing difference anyway since there's no MLB stadium nearby.
