I’m sort of on the fence There’s a good reason shows need to go off the air: I believe it’s that these shows are essentially products of their time Let’s just say the Simpsons was not meant to stay on the air for 30 years I suppose maybe the character of Jay Sherman could resurface in some modern format: Jay in his 60s could do a RU-vid rendition of Coming Attractions or something like that
If you take note of the graduation date of 1954 and that he's allegedly the New Years baby of 1937, that means he got into college when he was like 13.
I think you forgot "Well he won't get the silverware! I've glued THAT to the ceiling" Jay "I understand the silverware I guess but the furniture?!" Franklin "YOU understand the silverware?! *whistle and finger circling brain* wackooooo"
Franklin is the only character to make me laugh in this show. I can't believe my favorite scene wasn't here, it's when Jay gives his crew a series of "safe" questions to ask Franklin. After Frank answers every question with "NILKNARF!" I die laughing
It's a shame this show didn't have more seasons. It was very nearly as good as "The Simpsons," and the constant "Jewishness" of the humor is brilliant.
@Thiago de Andrade I don't honestly know, I don't recall this comment lol. There's a lot of hints at Jay Sherman being Jewish in rhe show, that's all I can think of...
@@KokoRicky Thank you for your reply. Only now I noticed how old your comment was. To be honest, I have been aware of The Critic for some time now, but only have been delving into it recently. Sherman reminds me a little of the stereotype of the clumsy, bad-with-people Jewish intellectual (like Woody Allen's characters), but his family's backgroung seems to be solidly WASP old money.
Sometimes Sherman‘s dad was a little bit sane, but he’s mostly crazy. I think it’d be cool in the remake of the show the critic if they made a remake. Sherman’s dad can go back-and-forth being insane. And then not insane. To make the show more interesting. He doesn’t act crazy at all and then episodes where he does and episodes where he doesn’t
His greatest quote is missing from this: "As the first black female head of the Ku Klux Klan, I'd like to say America stinks!" (as an opening statement in a debate for President)
That'd be funny! I was talking about when Jay talks to himself, he'll make up a voice & say that he's speaking with Ethel Ethel (Jay's voice disguised): You were quite a looker, Mr. S! Jay: Thank you, Ethel. You know, that analyst said I should stop doing this. Ethel (Jay's voice disguised): He's a quack! Jay: Right as always, Ethel! (Thanks for the upload! =D)
