You can see Mat F coming up for air multiple times, looking around for direction, once coming up for air on his back, his arms barely coming out of the water. And a grand total of one kayak and a boat circulating around. Ridiculous !
you know seeing normal people doing normal activities makes me sad and motivated at the same time, i'm sad because i use to be normal i use to do normal things but then life got in the way or to put it in another way i allowed my mental illness to take over my life and i just didn't care about myself or anybody else, but at the same time i'm motivated because it's never to late to take " ACTION"
The amount of toxic comments on these athletes times is crazy. Of course they're not going to beat pro runners at running, but you can bet they'll out lift them in any lift. They won't beat any olympic weight lifters at lifting, but they'll definitely outrun them. The leaders here were running close to 6 flat for the run portion on either side of the swim. For people that size that's impressive. Pair that with the workouts they do throughout the day, these are amazing athletes.
Considering the marginally longer time / distance gap that Tia-Clair's timing chip started behind the timing mat at the beginning, compared to the time / distance gap she was behind Brent at the finish, I'm surprised she wasn't the overall event winner on time. Which means the time required for the chip to cross the starting mat isn't subtracted from when the clock starts... and you really should be putting top-tier women up on the line next to the men... or do what Ironman triathlons do, and have staggered starting time clocks for pro men and pro women. And also just so the fasted pro women aren't held back by the slowest pro men in the opening stretch. In terms of officiating a timed endurance event, it should be part of your best practices. In any event, love your channel, and just wanted to submit some constructive feedback. Cheers
Yes, I see your point. But it was close because the first place guy did just enough to cross first before the women. If he was being chased by another man, he would've upped the pace.
That's a big maybe... for instance, moments later, the guy who finished a few feet behind Samantha Briggs certainly didn't have the energy to just "up the pace" to stay ahead of her at the line. At the Ironman World Championships in Kona, it's not uncommon for Mirinda Carfrae to be the fastest marathon runner on the entire course... no man or woman can simply up their pace to match her, and she will hunt you down in the heat... so she deserves just as much respect and consideration as any other athlete on the start line.
Hey Sam, if "giving respect is always there" like you mentioned, then it doesn't matter who you are - every athlete gets the same consideration, treatment, timed distance to start, etc... particularly when these women are challenging the men in some events. If it had simply been fair to begin with, we wouldn't be having this discussion. That's why it's constructive feedback. Wasn't being picky either - when top pro women beat top pro men in a discipline at the same world championship event, you pay them respect, because they're certainly not "inferior". When it comes to long distance endurance stuff like running through the lava fields in Kona, on scorching hot pavement, some women simply have higher pain tolerances.
It simply means that Tia ran fast. The chips worked as intended and none of the conspiracy you mentioned happened. CF has explained how the chips work ad nauseam in previous years. None of the fast women were held back by the slow men because there were a total of 78 people. You could see the slower people falling off to the sides and literally no one had to weave in or out around anyone. For people to be held back you'd need to have hundreds of runners (ala Nike Marathon). Also like someone else mentioned, the men were placed first at the mat and the women before entering the water.
Anyone got the split times? 😁 People saying they're slow... yeah - compared to triathletes/athletic builds. Solid performance from most considering they don't really train for this and can do like 100x events to a high standard 😁
Funny to see the enormous difference in physiques with the Triathlon athletes. Brent Fikowski is the only one with elegance and grace and he won this event as well.
Is this a multi-day event for crossfit atheltes? Personally see no point in aquathlon without any heavy lifting for them, just a bunch of strong and heavy people dying)) Watching triathlon hummer series is much more fascinating if we talk about endurance..
ok, let's be completely honest. if the women started at the same line as the men at the very beginning of the race instead of 5 meters behind the men, the two women would have won this race, tia toomey 1st.
Paradigm2012Shift no they wouldn't, the guy in the end did as little effort in the last sprint to stay in front, and if they started on the same line he would have just gone that slight amount faster and still won.
Probably not. The guy wasn't racing them. He tried to move by to let them go, so he slowed down. He was only concerned about the other men. But they still did really good.
I'd say speed endurance (coping with high levels of lactic acid for a while) is the main skill, rather than pure endurance which would be more of a triathlon or iron man style event.
Is the women's swim start closer to the water? I see all these people pointing out the advantage the men have at the beginning but...I heard the announcer say something about making up for it with the swim phase. Also what happens at 50:07? haha that guy punked that other guy a little bit.
Honestly . It looks closer but its actually more awkward than anything because of where they placed the shoe mats with their backs to the water , no straight line , lost momentum .
I was a lifeguard on august 5th for this event. I was called in by them from a local pool I work at...our pool regulations say that you need 1 lifeguard for every 60 or so patrons. each wave had around 100 people, and there were about 6 lifeguards out in kayaks at all times, each with a walkie talkie and 2 rescue tubes. there was also a main boat making rounds and picking up anyone who felt they couldn’t make it anymore, and about 4 lifeguards on the docks. so there were enough lifeguards; if anything I feel like they need to do a better job of ensuring people know how to swim; the amount of people I heard saying “I’ve never underestimated anything more in my life!” was concerning (but kind of hilarious at the same time)

shan thanks for the clarification I clearly don’t know all the rules about natation safety
I mean 60:1 is a pretty insane ratio from my POV. BSA has a 10:1 ratio. Competitive events are more dangerous than pool guarding and should have more oversight IMO.
People in comments are complaining saying that the woman would've beaten Brent because the distance between her and Brent at the starting line was bigger than at the finish. JUST TO CLARIFY BRENT MADE SURE TO DO JUST ENOUGH WORK TO BARELY WIN AND EVEN IF THEY STARTED AT THE SAME POINT HE WOULD'VE STILL DONE JUST ENOUGH TO BARELY WIN BECAUSE HE STILL HAD A LOT OF ENERGY LEFT.
Fittest on earth, more like a jack of all trades and a master of none. Their run in comparison to elite athletes would be considered pedestrian at best. I will never call cross fitters the fitter people on earth.
The science here... it takes energy to move mass. These men are far more massive than the women. They both have unbelievable cardio capability, so the women win out here as they don't have to move nearly as much mass and therefore don't require as much energy production.
It's weird re-watching this event 4 months later, now that we know that Ricky Garard had cheated. He is out front in the first run, but Brent's skill, experience and fitness showed that cheaters never prosper.
After watching this amazing athletes I'm asking myself why the negative feedback?!! why are so many stupid and ignorant people out there?! These men are outstanding, the women super super amazing, out of these world! I can't stop watching the Reebok crossfit games.
You'll see these comments on every CrossFit video, usually from middle-aged gamer guys still living in their mom's basements convinced that they can out-perform some of the fittest and strongest athletes in the world. It's sad.
Would have to be right around here 32:15 as they’re coming around that buoy but cameras too far to see. Also strange story since the boat is right by the buoy. Is this the right year for that story?
@@thisisspartacus the weird thing is that Fraser is still first after the turn... He told it was in 2017 run swim run event, I think that story is not so true...
@@irontruck6122 Not exactly that matches the thumbnail with the blue structure behind but, Thank you very much for finding it and replying. It's worth it 😊 by the way I think thumbnail image is somewhat edited.
prazertv No...not really. There isn’t a single woman in this field that is bigger or stronger than any male in the field. Now fitness and capacity? Sure. But it’s really not even close. Tia is no where even near the worst male athlete in strength or size.
The competition begins at 19:35 The winner of the men’s- Brent Fikowski his time(28:24.29) The winner of the women’s- Tia-Clair Toomey her time(28:45.65)
Not being rude but to everyone thinking tia should have won because she started behind the men at 26:49 it says that the women get the head start in the water
