*Big Fun Fact:* Frieren is animated by Madhouse, the studio who gave us One Punch Man, Death Note, Hunter X Hunter, Parasyte, Black Lagoon, Trigun, Hellsing, and Overlord. Madhouse has been animating a lot of lesser-popular animes within the last decade due to them going bankrupt. In fact, Frieren is actually Madhouse's next biggest project that they're working on. Their last biggest project that they animated was actually One Punch Man, which came out in 2015. Hopefully Frieren generates a lot of popularity and money for studio Madhouse

I didn't expect it but it quickly became my top 3 anime of all time, there's a reason it's rated #1!!! Enjoy it

This anime brought back all the good feelings I used to get when I used to watch anime. I do try to keep up but I haven't started watching any actual new anime series for almost three years now because nothing feels the same, but this anime pulled me out of that slump and made me fall in love with anime all over again. Brought me such comfort and I am so excited for this journey! :)

I love you are doing this show...it's so different from any who come before both in the format and style. Some call it slow burn and it's not wrong, but i call it more a laid-back one, very relax. No fan service or crazy build up and yet it work so well its so amazing !! Some call it the ultimate sidequest anime, i call it the ultimate real adventure ! The value of time and time past with company and value of the small thing in life is the ultimate lesson. You guys are gonna love it !!

The first episode seems slow because it was cut off. In Japan when the series premiered, a 2-hour special was made showing the first 4 episodes uncut.

Almost all the characters in Frieren have german words as names: Frieren (freezing) Himmel (sky or heaven) Heiter (cheerful) Eisen (iron) Fern (far) and many more to come.

This story’s “past” is the best thing in this anime. Just perfectly blended flashbacks, which made this anime so perfect and life-changing. It’s not your typical “nakama” anime that dwells on friendship. So it really gives the new twist in anime.

It's about time. 👍🏻 I was just looking through your playlists yesterday to see if you had done this series yet. Everyone of y'all should be watching this.

"I wanna meet new people to fall in love with. I hope they don't dwell on the past a ton..." Well then... I'll just say that this story is very reflective in its themes. It's gonna do both the things you wanted and the things you didn't really want. But you'll understand why this is essential to the story. Both past and present are vital to the story and would make significantly less impact if you don't have both. You can describe this show as a slice-of-life even though it's in a very fantastical setting. It might feel like a slow burn than usual but is actually paced really well. Even though time seems to move quickly, it still feels like it takes a moment to breathe. I honestly don't know how they did it. Also, the OST is done by Evan Call. He did the OST for Violet Evergarden, which is also a story about a girl learning about human emotions and connections. I recommend watching that even if on your own. Since I don't think it'll win any polls whatsoever despite being a top-notch quality anime.

Yes! More publicity for Frieren! it's so good in so many ways and its use and handling of "time" is outstanding. It really hits the feels, and as a retired viewer I gotta say it hits hard. Also you should for sure check out The Apothecary Diaries. The characters and writing are as good as in Frieren and its plot is really tight.

A fun thing about this show/manga is that all the names are speaking names just in german: Frieren= freezing/ to freeze Himmel = Heaven Heiter = happy/cheerful Eisen = Iron Flamme = Flame Fern = far away/remote

I binged this anime yesterday. It was phenomenal . peak 10/10. Everyone fav All around the world. ❤

My favorite thing about this as a first episode is just how much more meaning it has after watching the whole series. There are so many little things that seem like pointless details in the moment, but are enough to make me tear up now.

To get an idea of Heiter's age, he was probably between 15-20ish when they set out on their journey add 10 years for the adventure to defeat the Demon King add another 50 from the journey's end to Himal's death plus a final 20 to bring up to the end of the first episode puts Heiter's age around 95 to 100 years old at episodes end

You'll notice they give a lot of attention to detail regarding animation. Every background character is given the same amount of love as the main characters which makes it feel so alive.

This is definitely not the kind of anime i normally watch... but i fell in love with this show. It gave me One pieces vibes in the sense that i can i watch a thousand episodes and still want more of this show. I cant wait for the next season. And i hope they get enough funding to make longer seasons. Himmel is one my all time favorite best boys. Same with Stark. Tons of great characters, animation, music score... it is one of the best shows ive watched in years.

Welcome to the rabbit hole that is Sousou no Frieren! I hope you really enjoy this anime series! A lot of modern Japanese fantasy is tailored after the Lord of the Rings. Frieren is very Tokeinesque, so Elves are nearly immortal, Dwarves live a few hundred years and humans 70-90 years. Just a few things if no one else has mentioned it; this anime is really about paying attention to little details, as small things make emotional impacts later in series. For instance, the reason why Frieren buys a hair clip in Episode 3 that had a butterfly design was because in Episode 2 the first time Fern showed Heiter her magic, she made an illusion of glowing butterflies. You DO learn why Frieren has a habit of collecting spells, and it all starts with her master, who is revealed in Episode 4 and you learn way more about her in the penultimate mid-season episode 10. There is speculation that since Priests are the only ones who can effectively use holy magic (dispelling and resisting curses, casting holy affinity offensive magic, blessings and healing) that they are also granted longer lives than normal. Some people even say that Heiter passed away when he was over 100. Every name in Frieren is a German word and they have meaning. There is a school of thought that this whole story is Frieren's reminiscence, since people are named for concepts that encapsulates a memory/impression, rather than normal German names. Frieren - Freezing - it's speculated that Frieren's emotional state was frozen by tragedy revealed in Episode 10, and that her master was instrumental in thawing her, culminating in meeting with her friends. Another interpretation is that Frieren's relational state was frozen, an her time with Fern will continue the change in her that her time with Himmel did. Himmel - Sky or Heaven - pay attention to the times they show the Sky, as it almost always refers to Himmel or the memory of him Heiter - Jolly - Heiter is shown in future flashbacks as deflecting difficult emotional stress with humour or self-deprecation. So... it doesn't look like anyone has laid this out clearly yet: When the party of heroes left to fight the Demon King, Himmel was 16 and Heiter was 18. That means when we meet them in the show, they're 26 and 28. Himmel dies at 76. The next time we see Heiter after that, he's 98, and Fern is 8.
