Keep in mind that since Daleks are creatures inside armored suits, Sec’s wiggling eyestalk is the equivalent of wiggling a camera while you’re talking to someone from inside a tank.

Dalek Sec is by far the Best Dalek, he understood the biggest flaws Daleks have, there superiority complex and there Purist nature. If he had his way...the Daleks would have been better off

That's the point. Dalek Sec and the hybrid race were the Daleks' best chance to actually become a successful species. But in the end, their purity obsession destroyed their only hope for meaningful victory. The irony being, of course, that said purity was nothing more than a science experiment to make super-soldiers gone horribly wrong in the first place. Dalek Sec could have easily succeeded where Davros failed and made the Daleks as nigh-unbeatable as the humans and Time Lords, an empire that could last to the end of the universe. But they were victims of their own flawed worldview.

Daleks are just mutated and polluted versions of Kaleds. Hence, their ideology of purity will never be satisfied, because the Daleks nature are impure in of themselves.

Dalek Sec is my favourite Dalek, pure and hybrid. He proved to be a verbal savage in Doomsday, and in this two-parter his philosophy and speeches are just so fascinating and true. Sec forever!

Looking at it as a neophyte, I think it is quite clever they ended up this way... If i understand well, daleks are war machines ; emotionless, which is as much as a perfection than a flaw. But their maker created those specific daleks to, and I quote : "IMAGINE" new ways of survival. By imaginating, you think. By thinking, you question. By questionning, you reach a state of individuality... And if "Seck" was the leader, maybe he was genetically made to have a superior individuality. It is facinating, and quite tragic...

The comparisons of Dalek and Human nature are very interesting in this scenario. Daleks have never questioned their superiority and saw the act of thinking as an inferior quality when humans have it the opposite where we know our ability to think and question is the more favourable quality. With the same concept, Daleks hate to think of themselves as simply another intelligent life form just like we don’t like to think of ourselves as violent, war hungry apes. We don’t like to see dalek qualities in us just as they don’t like to think of human qualities in them, probably why Sec was turned on by the other cult members. This would prove ironic when Karn time travelled back to the Time War and witnessed the atrocities the Daleks committed and turned on them in a later episode, kinda saying Sec was right.

This actually was my first time seeing the organic being inside the Dalek shell. I was a little kid, already fairly familiar with a Dalek's outer image, its yelling "EXTERMINATE", stuff like that. I clearly remembered the Doctor telling it that it was screaming because it was locked inside a metal cage. Then, this. I was shocked, disgusted. Its form made so much sense, that it would need the shell to survive, but my gosh, it was terrifying and hideous. That image stuck with me. My first time seeing the true Dalek, and it was an epic first impression.

Remember though, the Doctor explains why they're doing this: they don't have the power to do much exterminating, much like the Dalek that Van Statten had. They are VULNERABLE here, barely enough power for weapons and ONE emergency temporal shift, nothing for their shields.

The Cult of Skaro failed because 3 of its members were ultimately unable to overcome what Darvos programmed into them, if they'd all been on board with Sec (whether or not he became too human after the conversion) they'd have triumphed in rebuilding the Empire in a new form.

Dalek Sec should of been kept alive really, and should have conducted the hybrid test on another Dalek. Sec was the only one smart enough to realise what the Dalek's became and would have easily protected the Human Dalek from the other 2 Dalek's

I imagine that most Daleks are as small as the one from Van Stattens' museum. However, the larger they are, the more prominent they are in what makes up Dalek Society. The Emperor is a giant and Sec as leader of the Cult of Skaro is also quite large

@@DavidbarZeus1 The Dalek mutants have always varied in size according to plot requirements. The first ones encountered were big enough that Ian Chesterton and later the first Doctor could get inside the casings. During Patrick Troughton's time they were jellied cabbage stuff just the right size for a kitchen strainer. I seem to recall someone got inside a Dalek case during Pertwee's time. After that they were just lumps of snot until in the sixth Doctor's time they were the size of a human head in bubble wrap.

This feels very weird. When I watched this as a kid, this terrified me and gave me nightmares for years. Coming back almost 7 years later and about to watch it again for the first time makes me feel uneasy, and not knowing what to expect.

Another thing that u gotta respect Sec for that i havent seen mentioned is that not only did he see the need to take a drastic action to ensure the survival of the daleks, he volunteered *himself* for the experiment. He could've given an order ans even force it if one of the other daleks refused but instead he decided to do it himself. He's a true leader, and his death is one of the greatest losses the dalek race would ever know

I would be completely and utterly scared of daleks of they were more like Dalek- Sec. WANT MORE OF THAT. IM COMPLETELY SCARED OF HIM

This episode gets so much flak but it is actually a great concept. The Daleks have always believed they are superior and yet at every turn they are defeated and driven to near extinction and yet humans considered primitive by far survive all the way to the end of the universe and even beyond. To try and understand what it is that is in human nature that gives us our knack for survival and endurance though the ages would be something the Cult of Skarro would explore. It is the thing that fascinates the Doctor and his reason for always coming back to earth and being in the company of humans. He is frustrated with species like the cybermen who underestimate human beings because they just don't realize their potential.

I think the reason why it gets so much flak is because they had a great concept, but didn't seem to know what to do with it, resulting in them sidelining Sec halfway through the second half, turning the rest of the story into a standard "Daleks want to take over the world" affair, and then just casually getting rid of Sec near the end.

When i watched this for the first time i thought it was quite stupid of Dalek sec to become a hybrid, it made him weaker in terms of combat, it made him develop human emotions and made him feel sympathy for humans. Although, now I’ve realised that Dalek sec was actually quite clever because he saw that the way the Daleks were going - they were most likely to become extinct. Therefore, he believed that they should change in order to survive. Also, it was his job to continue the Dalek race and he nearly did! If the other members of the cult didn’t betray him. He overcame the Dalek instinct, the belief that the Daleks “always survive” and knew that was completely false. By far, he was the cleverest Dalek and that is why he is my favourite.

Even when he was still just a Dalek, Sec was clever enough to reconsider the Dalek mission. It wasn't just the human DNA, maybe Dalek Sec was just different. Perhaps in another timeline, he could've led the Daleks to a new age of prosperity.

While this isn't my favorite Dalek episode, I must admit that this moment is really cool, and Dalek Sek makes a lot of sense here, even if the end result is very silly.

You can even already see them in the daleks master plan AND we can perfectly see a scene where Tom Baker is grabbed by a mutant dalek's tentacle, it's one of the cliffhangers

I so wished they kept the Cult of Skaro running throughout the series. Maybe we see them every 5 - 6 episodes so we could see what other ideas that had instore for the survival of the dalek race. This episode felt like it should have been the last in a series of multiple cult of skaro stories. All to be ended in series three right at the beginning so then the last two episodes involving the Davros and Caan would have rounded up the story nicely. But anyway I agree, this episode scared the crap out of me when I was a kid

Man, the cult of Daleks were underrated! This is how you use overused villains! So good. Should've done a similar concept with the new Daleks in "Victory of The Daleks" if they'd done better designs like white, gold, silver, black etc.

This is the 3rd episode I watched. I still wonder how they pull off such crazy stories. The 1st was "dalek" and the 2nd was the giant wasp episode. Saw some episode with the Eleventh doctor.

I think Dalek Sec should of remained as himself and had another Dalek turn into a human hybrid. Dalek Sec was smarter and would of likely protected the human hybrid from any other Dalek wishing to betray Sec's plan for a more peaceful way of surviving. I would of loved if they ended the show with human hybrids. Would of been a great addition to have for future shows having hybrid Daleks and normal Daleks.

Sec would have exterminated the hybrid if it started advocating for peace. Sec chose Diagoras for his ruthlessness and ambition, and wanted to use humanity’s ‘genius for war’ to conquer the universe. He only started to change when he became a hybrid.
