A good luck is all one needs, you're lucky, really lucky, My monohull was knocked over on the RPAYC Newport slipway by an unsecured boat beside me, This was while I was antifouling it was closed if I had been on the opposite side of the boat painting, I would have been squashed. The total rebuild took 18 months to rebuild it from the top of the mast to the bottom of the keel. The mast had hit the club wall when my boat toppled over. This meant it had to be removed, all the paint removed as well to check for cracks and replace damaged spreaders and wire rigging with new Dyneema rigging, I could go On and on - All I'm saying is thank your lucky stars you got off lightly. It could have been very bad quickly, you only lost a week's hard work I'm impressed with your repairs, good to know all is well. Great tutorial on prop speed, however boat owners in Sydney are not allowed to buy it or apply it costs You need to hire a pro applicator I was quoted $500 that is for one prop. You are right land of QZ when it comes to boats, money evaporates for little return or value. Hang in there. good to note you had a lucky break with a great outcome. Crazy to think that just a few more seconds of delay on your reaction before the collision could have meant a much more extensive damage, and legally you would not have such a clear case maybe. You would need to sit around waiting for insurance and stuff, and end up releasing a YT drama episode. Haha, that’ll be the day! Such a solid guy, and no crocs... praise the Lord 😊

Ha ha ha, haulout there is always late. Once I waited 2 hand a half hours. But the last time was only 30 min. But always quite busy. I was amazed they hauled you out with that wind. Looking at the damage and knowing it was more a side swipe than anything I thought the damage wouldn't be too much work. Thats why I love epoxy/glass anyone can do it. As for the who is at fault % wise, if our authorities deemed it's 90/10 then it's 90/10, done deal. Anyway you were under sail alone, they were under power alone and we know who must give way. Positive outcome, got to do the antifouling, cutlass bearings, propspeed and fixed the board and other stuff, so now it's off you go. Albeit with a new sense of awareness ;)

Gday Vernon - it's been a couple of days with me wondering whether I should write this, but here goes. Lock Crowther often used the same daggerboard design for many designs. He used a cedar blank with minimal reinforcing, often just a few layers of sheathing cloth. It is not a design style that is used much nowadays. When I broke my cedar board on my Crowther Twiggy I wrapped it in glass like you did, but I don't think the job you did is a long term fix. Once the cedar is broken it can only be used as a high load core, which it can still function as, but the skins have to now take almost all the load, not the cedar. In your video you showed how you were going to scoop out the cedar to lay in some new glass - you mentioned Jeff Cruze, so I thought, "All good, everything will be good now". But I was totally surprised to see that chopped strand mat and cloth were used to reinforce the board. Choppy is truly awful stuff that has absolutely no place in any high load structure, and then the fabric was put over it. To me it looked like about 300gm fabric. The choppy will almost have no strength in tension for the loads on the board. The fabric has half of its plies running the wrong way. The other half are crimped, weaving up and down around the other threads, so they are not that strong. So I reckon you have the equivalent of about one layer of 300gm uni holding your board together. My 38ft cat is lighter than yours and I have about 8 layers of proper uni, on each side of a full intact cedar core. I think you should be very wary of your fix, it is pretty dodgy engineering. Have a chat with someone who makes modern composite boats and get stuck into when to use unis and fabrics. I would never have suggested using choppy (throw that stuff in the bin) on your cat. Fabric is fine for sheathing but for load bearing, you need to have some uni and some biaxial or double bias on board. Have a chat again with Jeff Cruze or someone else. I would worry heaps about the board breaking down in the case now, it is very much weaker than how Lock designed it, or how someone who knows composites would strengthen it. My advice would be to only put it half down until you gets somewhere nice and then rip all of the filler and glass off and get some serious layers of 400gm uni staggered on the sides of the break. The engineering is not that hard - you just work out the strength of the cedar blank and ensure the unis can carry the same load - it would take about 15 minutes with a composites book. Cheers Phil

When you were removing the tape after finishing the antifouling where did that huge boat come from how did it get on the hard it looked miles to big and heavy for the travel lift.....🤔 .. A friend of mine went to buy some propspeed recently from the marine store they had to call for a ambulance he fainted when they told him how much it cost ......it will be interesting to see if it's worth the money.... ..

With you haul out I don't know if you asked the boatyard, but it would have been nice if a couple of the guys from the boatyard jumped aboard to give you a hand.

I moved from Germany to Indonesia and I was shocked, that I couldnt find any harbours where I can leave a sailing boat. You`ve been there? Do you know any harbours close to Yogyakarta, or if not, how to find a harbour, when Indonesia basically doesnt use websites? :D
