This was a project for my digital filmmaking class. Obviously I would've loved to make it longer, but I had a fairly strict time limit. I'll likely return to this topic in the future.

It’s almost like the engineers behind the generators have a vendetta against artists… rather than, like you said, come up with a myriad of other solutions that would benefit humanity

Cannot express how important this is. It is so surprising some people don't know the soul, love, and human touch that AI can never replicate with art.

Thank you for covering such an important topic. AI art will never replace the intimacy and experiences behind human art. There should be a limit on what data these algorithms scrape, I think.

i feel like art is about a personal view and experience as much as something for others. a filmaker could make a robot create a film but it would not be THEIR film with THEIR creativity and ideas

AI is very dangerous not only for artists but for people too, you can just put some person face you know into some adult video or nsfw content!

Yeah, it's definitely gatekeeping. The only people whoever cared about 'process' were the people paying millions for paintings or those who think being able to draw makes you an artist. There are millions of people who can draw, some very very well, but there is only a few hundred artists in the entire world. Everyone else just wants pretty pictures.
@poke_
@poke_ Год назад
You're so fucking wrong I don't even know where to begin. Everyone I know who creates art, myself included, greatly values the self expression that the process of creation enables. If all you care about is "pretty pictures" you should try researching the artists behind some of your favorite works. I promise there's more to it that you don't see. The idea that only artists who make millions of dollars are "real artists" is just completely, laughably stupid.

The artists of the past. The Michelangelo's the DA Vinci's were scientists, and inventors, and philosophers. They had true genius beyond their ability to draw, or paint, or sculpt. The people who built these Ai's have more in common with being an actual artist, than a simple drawer. They are creating something we've never seen before. That is artistry.
@poke_
@poke_ Год назад
@@darkwitnesslxx I mean credit for posting a take I've never seen before, but an artist is someone who creates art. Whatever bullshit you want to tack onto that doesn't change the fact that anyone who draws, paints, sings, plays and instrument, writes, etc, is engaging in creative self-expression, and therefore is an artist. Being an "inventor" or whatever has nothing to do with it.

The soy twitter artist fears the chad lightning fast picasso machine. In seriousness I find a lot of the talk around the AI art subject to be very boomerish and scaremongering of just a new form of automation. Traditional art isn't going to die from this, people will still want a real piece of work created by a real person. Just like people will still pay premium prices for handmade furniture instead of mass-produced IKEA pieces that are made by machines. It especially feels kind of hypocritical from artists who use digital tools, since a lot of those tools already use forms of AI coding to help correct small errors while you draw/paint/color/etc. I would definitely disagree with the last point of this video. The reaction to AI art, especially by a lot of artist has definitely felt very "elitist" to me. Though I feel gatekeeping is a more appropriate term, as in they're trying to gatekeep what "true" art is. The idea that AI art isn't a form of art is just silly. If you spent hour upon hours reworking prompts to get the exact image you want, you created something. Obviously they aren't a real painter or drawer, and shouldn't pretend they are one, but they still created a piece of art. I will agree with the point in the video that there needs to be some kind of protection for artists, so these AI art tools aren't just grabbing whatever they want. I think that's the most valid point against current AI art software out there.

In Photoshop, for instance, even if you're using AI tools like content-aware fill, spot-removal, etc, you are still consciously making artistic decisions about things like framing, composition, lighting and contrast, etc. This is why even something like photography is generally still considered art. And sorry, but "tweaking prompts" in the hopes that you'll eventually find something to your liking is not art. You're not making creative decisions; you're making judgements after the fact. Using an AI generator is much more akin to paying for a commission, where you tell an artist what you want, and they make it for you; maybe there's some back-and-forth and iterations, but ultimately the artist has the final say on most elements of the work. I think most people would agree that ordering a commission does not make you an artist. Finally, given that AI generators kind of directly take the place of commissions, that's where a lot of the fears around the technology come from, and justifiably so. Concept art, sketches, logo/brand materials, portraits, profile pictures and banners, etc. All these things have the potential to be easily overtaken by AI, and like I mentioned in the video, it's not long before it'll be able to do even more. Facebook and Google have already announced AI video generators.

I think this is one of those things where both sides are partially right. Some companies (large and small) will try to do a full-on replacement, and we’ll see how that works out. At the same time, I also think that this will be a tool for a lot of upcoming/existing artists in their workflows.
@poke_
@poke_ Год назад
@@pokepress yeah I agree that using AI as *part* of your workflow is not really a problem. It's just when AI is *your entire workflow*
@lv1543

the AI side is entirely wrong. Art is not something that should be automated at all. New technology != good in every instance. What is happening is an attack on the human spirit and humanity itself. There was never a barrier to entry to art. That was the point of it. Your only barrier was the hard work you put in. The continued devaluing of humans will reach a point to where people will seriously debate whether someones existance is valid. We should never get to that point but techbros are blinded by their ego and their false sense of superiority.

Artists didn't give a sh*t about AI art until it directly competed with them. This is just greedy people trying to keep scarcity artificial. And attacking people using AI online is the dumbest sh*t these artists are doing!!
