Thank you to @holy_shihtzu for clarifying. I have missed so many comments on this video and I need to clarify myself. Neither I nor Amanda were clear in our wording about why Autism was part of the conversation and I take full responsibility for doing a poor job at explaining. I truly apologize if I have offended anyone and would never mean to harm or upset people who are neurodivergent OR spread misinformation. After looking into what can happen with small gene pools, I discovered that sometimes autism can be caused by recessive genes carried by both parents. I brought it up because the Kingston’s gene pool is more like a gene puddle and I wondered if the expression of said genes were more prevalent in their group. I did NOT intend to imply that autism or neurodivergence is a birth defect. I’m incredibly sorry for not being clear there. I also did not intend to imply that anyone with autism must be from inbreeding. If harm was caused due to my poor word choice and implications I’m truly sorry and will do better in the future. We frequently have on neurodivergent guests and celebrate their differences, while also bringing awareness to the fact that they tend to suffer more than others in Cults due to not being properly diagnosed and cult members not understanding their unique differences (as told to me by those who are neurodivergent). Again, I apologize and while I always do my best to create a caring, compassionate, diverse, inclusive and non judgmental space, I do make mistakes and I’m willing to correct them when I do. Thank you for understanding ❤

Thank you for taking it seriously and trying to make it right. Everyone makes mistakes, all we need is accountability when that happens, so thank you for doing the right thing. It means more than you might think❤️❤️ As an advocate of people with mental health issues, I would give you the advice to look into how to speak about these things so that you don't end up in trouble in the future. I have no doubt that your intentions are good, and that's a way for you to protect yourself and your channel (your work is so important and amazing, it's definitely worth protecting). For example, your can't encourage schizophrenia, it's one of the most severe mental illnesses we have. I think what you meant is that people are put into states of delusion and some of them can lead to psychosis, which is absolutely true. There are so many creators I see today that are going to have a tough time in the future bc of how they speak about these things, and I hope you can avoid that, just look into and ask people who have different diagnosis. Thank you, Shelise! Love your channel, thanks for everything you do! 🍀✨💕

Disclaimer: Just because someone has autism, does not mean they are inbred. The causes of autism are currently unknown and in case anyone misunderstood, I just want to clarify for the audience that most of us autistics are not from families with inbreeding problems. Developmental disabilities in general can be elevated in families with inbreeding, but, most autistics are not from inbred families.

Thank you for pointing this out. Most of my family is on the spectrum, but my parents are not related. If I'm not mistaken, it's more common to see things like blood disorders and physical deformities resulting from inbreeding. And regardless off the result, it's obviously never the child's fault. We don't choose our parents. We should never shame someone for their parents decisions.

I obviously agree with you, but I do think it may be very possible that there are more people in her group with autism than the general public. Many people with autism often will not pick up on a person who is trying to take advantage of them and in this case could very likely fall prey to a cult. I wouldn't be surprised if many of the first generation order members were on the spectrum and passed this on to their many many children.
@Melissa0774
@Melissa0774 8 месяцев назад
Yeah, I think the mental disabilities that people get from inbreeding are completely different from autism. They may look like autism but they're something completely different. There's a family from West Virginia called the Whitakers who are extremely inbred going back generations. Most of them have mental disabilities. Two of them can't talk and look and act severely autistic, but what they have is not autism. It's just brain damage from their genes. There's a guy who's a film maker, who does a bunch of videos on them here on RU-vid. Look them up.

He told me that in some poly groups, one of the wives will train as a nurse in order to perform all home health care and midwifery. They'd go into the grocery store with their husband but only one woman at a time and she would just stare at the floor the whole time. I would try to catch her eye in case she wanted help (not obviously, just walked past a little closer than most people would. People gave them a LOT of space) but they would never look at me. She was completely zoned out and would just make sounds like a pterodactyl all day. I had her for a couple weeks on my shifts. Her significant other would come in and show pictures of her before and said she was a brilliant lady with 3 master degrees. He was so flabbergasted by her current condition. By the 2nd week that I had her it was like I went in there one day and something in her had just snapped, during the middle of my shift and she suddenly remembered who she was and could speak but she was SO confused about where she was. She didn’t know ANYTHING that had happened to her in the last couple weeks. It turns out she had developed sepsis and was also severely dehydrated. All of this had developed from a UTI. You can be arrested for taking care of these basic needs, if someone should witness it. Also, women are supposed to make up the time that they skipped fasting due to pregnancy or nursing. SO, in real life, this translates to women of multiple children falling behind on fasting... and sometimes (out of societal pressure/guilt) they'll try to fast while pregnant or nursing! You can imagine how that goes! (especially in desert heat!) Children also want to be 'more grown-up', and 'more righteous'... like the adults they admire. Growing children will attempt to fast, and grow frustrated if they vomit any liquid or food they consumed after sunset, or before sunrise, because anything food or liquid that crosses the lips during daylight hours is considered breaking the fast. Yes, throwing up counts as breaking the fast. These poor children feel guilty, and sick, and also as though righteousness is simply out of reach. These beautiful people need the Truth, Jesus alone, saves. Not works.

What’s so sad about inbreeding, is that it can lie dormant for generations. Then, two people get together, and have kids. Every other kid has issues and the other kids are okay. (Just for example). Tons of testing and none of the doctors could determine why half of their children have issues. One dr said, the only thing he could possibly attribute it to, was inbreeding, many generations back. Autism is not connected to inbreeding. It does have a hereditary factor tho, so if autism runs in the family, incestuous or not, there is gonna be a higher percentage of people on the spectrum in that family. Like both of my parents are on the spectrum and I am as well, but there is no incest going on in our family tree. Also, there are mental disabilities that present a lot like autism (especially like the type that was formerly known as “Kanner’s Autism”, not so much what used to be called “Asperger Syndrome”) and those disorders can be caused by inbreeding. Without a professional diagnosis it’s pretty much impossible to say if it’s autism or something related to the inbreeding directly

Many communication systems & diagnostic protocols were developed during the late '80s, all through the '90's, & it was amazing to see what a range there truly is. Not to mention, a whole lot of mis-diagnosis that became really clear as time went on. So much study needed out there to this day, & a lot of already collected data that needs attention. Inbreeding simply magnifies the severity and the frequency you produce a child with a disorder. Any genetic disorder you can think of is made worse with incest. So blindness, deafness, autism, retardation, anything is made worse with incest. In the Spanish royal family it killed a whole family because all their kids were sterile from generations of incest.

It’s not that it’s a “defect”, just that in an inbred population the same traits will keep popping up because people are going to have multiple copies of recessive alleles. Same reason an incestuous cult might be all blonde, but that doesn’t mean that all blondes are inhred.

No one is trying to share misinformation here, just express observations about increased apparent birth defects and lack of modern healthcare. A major genetic disorder (fumarase deficiency) was found by doctors / geneticists to have increased prevalence in the FLDS due to inbreeding because recessive traits are more likely to be expressed. That said, since there is significant misinfo in general about Autism Spectrum Disorder - that is not caused necessarily by inbreeding, and she did not say it was. It is caused by a mix of a variety of genes and environmental factors. There's places here in the UK where a particular religion has an extremely high rate of cousin to cousin marriages. I'm those areas the rate of babies born with special needs of any kind are massively higher than in others. So much so that day 50 miles away is less than half. It's legal here to marry a cousin...my cousins are like siblings, so it's weird to me. We also have hypermobility and the accompanying effects of it. Myself and a female cousin have it most severly, if course 2 women can't make a baby, but ignoring biological facts, a baby would be extremely hypermobile, it would be an incredibly painful life, even walking, sitting and standing are painful and more difficult. I used to teach & we were partnered with a school in a nearby city. I'm that area culturally cousin marriages, particularly here in the UK are extremely common. The incidence of children with special needs was 8 times higher that our school. We call the list of children with SEN a special needs register, almost 50% of theirs were children that were related in some way. They all had the same surname except a few, their parents were close relatives and had a biological link. There's another city locally that has an even higher rate. Until a couple of years ago it was brushed under the carpet, no one wanted to ease in on 'a cultural difference ' The fact children were harmed was irrelevant, even now it's still not been properly addressed. Often the families will say it's their god's choice if a child is born with a disability, instead of accepting there's a real problem.

2:09 I read that many polygamous communities get a rare genetic condition called fumarase deficiency. It's a rare disease that can cause acute retardation and severe physical problems depending on how severe it is in an individual born with that issue. The disease has struck these children because of a recessive gene that has been spread through decades of inbreeding. It's not only the Kingston group that deals with the disorder because most of the polygamous groups in Utah that are off shoots of the LDS have been "cross pollinating" so to speak for generations. Many of the fundamentalist Mormon groups have many family members that have been a part of other polygamous churches. Some of them are born and grow up in a fundamentalist community, and then later marry into a different polygamous group. For example Sam from the RU-vid channel "Growing Up In Polygamy" has family members that are part of the Centennial Park Fundamentalist Mormon Church because they broke offf from the Warren Jeffs FLDS group when the former prophet Rulon Jeffs died. If I'm not mistaken Sam's family also has family members that are in Canada that married into Winston Blackmore's Church, they were also once part of the FLDS with Warren Jeffs. They also broke away from the FLDS when Rulon Jeffs passed away ans Warren took over as prophet.

All of the people with fumarase deficiency (aside from just a handful from the rest of the world) are descendants of Joseph Smith Jessop and Martha Yeates (wife 1 of 2 or maybe 3). Most people in the FLDS are his descendants one way or another, which absolutely blows my mind.

As a person who has autism, I can tell you that even outside of a cult it is very hard to get a diagnosis. I was misdiagnosed until I was 19. I know a woman who was 26. I know people diagnosed in their 40's and 50's. Until the mid 2000's it wasn't really talked about and there wasn't a lot of research on woman with asd or how asd presents different in adults and children. Graduated highschool in 05 and I went to school for special education. They did one 45 min class period on autism for the entire 4 years I went to school. We learned it was rare and mostly presents in boys. We know so much more now, awareness is up and so is research, but that didn't do much to help those of us who grew up having asd and not having the correct support. It's a tough world when your neurodivergent. I can't imagine what people in the order go through because it has to be worse than what I went through and I wouldn't wish that on an enemy.

Polygamy hasn't been practiced in the mainstream LDS church since it was declared illegal in the United States. The offshoot groups split in disagreement as they believe polygamy, specifically polygyny (men having more than one wife), is a commandment from God. Shelise goes into the BITE model for discerning if you're under the influence of a cult (religious or not) in depth in her first video. The level of control in the mainstream LDS church definitely meets this threshold. Other churches/congregations meet this threshold as well. I highly recommend watching that video, especially the first 15-20 minutes where she discusses this model in depth.

@@tinkeramma I looked up the BITE model out of curiosity, and well... I know people have said Trump is a cult leader before, but I didn't realise that was meant to be a serious assertion. The refusing professional medical help or any outside help reminds me of an old religious joke: A religious man sees on the news that his town is about to be hit by dangerous flooding. He ignores it, thinking "god will save me." Then police come to his house and warn him that he needs to evacuate, but he refuses saying "god will save me." The storm comes through and waters rise until he has to climb up on his roof. Rescue crews come by with boats and helicopters, and he still refuses to go with them, saying "god will save me." He eventually gets swept away and drowns, and in the afterlife confronts god "why didn't you save me?!" God says "I sent you multiple warnings, boats, and helicopters, and you still didn't listen!" 🤦‍♀

I ended up giving birth a month early bc of preclampsia I had to get ultra sounds every week and got shots to help with babies lungs. I never knew what it was till the nurse explained to me that fluid w was building on my brain and organs and it could cause me to go into seizures and die as well as my child. I am forever thankful for whoever called 911 for this woman bc u need specific meds to monitor how much fluid your body is releasing with monitored fluid intake. I was placed on a catheter for 4 days I believe. I could only have so much drink every so hour I was thirsty but so grateful they helped save my life and my sweet girl born 4 pounds and 10 ounces she had no lung problems and didn't need the NICU! I can't imagine being helpless and them saying she's good again forever thankfu for the anonymous call made for this women it's bad enough she lost her baby. It isn't a game. Why do some men think birth is easy peasy no complications no anything! It's so much more than most men think and to force them into baby after baby with no choice is disgusting.

Sadly the practice I was at I saw 6 differet doctors so each one didn't share as much information with me. I've only been pregnant once I had no clue. I asked if I passed the preclmalsia test they said yes. The levels were a little higher but I did not have it but they took precautions and I'm so glad they did bc it did end up being a massive issue and coming into play.

The amazing thing to me is that if you believe in God and you state God's will than how is it that modern medicine isn't God's will?? If you believe than you would think that modern medicine would be hailed as God's blessings in helping you heal. I was an apprentice midwife working with the Amish and at least the Amish we worked with listened to the midwife and when told they were not a candidate for home birth were sent to doctor and delivered in the hospital. I would never have survived if I gave birth at home I had too many complications I also had the rh factor and without rogam I would have lost subsequent babies. There's being ignorant but not seeking medical attention when it's available is beyond ignorant. They should be charged with manslaughter for forcing women to give birth w/o proper medical attention that results in the baby or mother dying . It should also be a felony to put a child through pain suffering when you refuse to take them to the ER to be stitched up or a bone set. Better yet sit the adult down and start sticking them with a needle and thread and see how many people it takes to hold them down! Not letting kids have pain relief by numbing area needing stitched or put out under general for broken bones should be ascribed as child abuse.

Low sugar is deadly, low fat or no fat is starving the brain, dehydration can be deadly if it's bad enough. And any factor of those would include a phase where the person would be hallucinating. When it comes to birth defects, testing is always for some of the more common threats, but incest could bring out the non common things easily. If there is a defective dominant gene in the family and it is on the X chromosome, each kid would inherit that. One one the Y would just affect the male offspring.

Sharing this with patience & love,ñ to spread awareness, not slinging vitriol: Autism is a not an illness or birth defect. We’ve been in the gene pool for at the very least 10 thousand years. Neurodivergence is part of the natural diversity of humanity. If you’re thinking of things like learning disabilities or other developmental disabilities, those tend to occur at the same rate in the autistic population as in the non-autistic population actually. ✌️

*Regarding religion fueling/causing mental disorders:* Jeanette McCurdy (the former child actress on shows like _iCarly_ and _Sam & Cat_ on Nickelodeon) not many people know, but she was raised Mormon. She was told one day, I guess when she was "worthy" enough as a follower of Christ, her "little voice" would talk to her. From what I gathered the "little voice" was supposed to be God speaking to you. I read in her book _I'm Glad My Mom Died_ (an amazing story of C.A. in the form of narcissistic parenting & enmeshment) and for *YEARS* she was being commanded by the "little voice" to do things like spin in a circle, touch her belly button 8 times, etc. Only now she realizes those were _rituals_ and she had severe obsessive-compulsive disorder ☹️ So that's a really great example.
