What are the negative sides of living in Brazil? Brazil is one of the most beautiful countries on the planet. It enjoys a plethora of advantages to give it a pride place in the committee of nations. I love to talk about its football prowess. This is in addition to many other good places you find Brazil in the agriculture and natural resources. Yet like every country, Brazil has its own set of disadvantages. Some of them can be so serious to some people that they could because of them shelve their visit to the country, not to talk of living in Brazil. However, objectivity may make some of them appear lighter. For the purposes of information and education, here are the dark sides of living in Brazil.
1. The perception of their country by foreigners affects Brazilians' feelings towards it
For some reason, Brazilians are extremely concerned about how other people see their country. While they could complain about their government and the worst features of the Brazilian culture, they become agitated and defensive when they hear a foreigner make the point.
In an online survey to determine Brazilians’ view of outsiders’ perception of their nation, practically every respondent had something negative to say about their home country. There were only one or two comments that were supportive of the true image being presented. This mindset has a great deal to do with the social culture of Brazil. Brazilians might get emotionally connected to the image of their country as if it were their personal images.
This doesn’t appear to be the case in western countries of Europe or the United States. Many Americans, for example, are inclined to agree with foreigners when they condemn their country. Some Americans, on the other hand, are so self-absorbed that they are unable to allow the perspectives of individuals from other nations to even penetrate their consciousness, let alone influence it. They just believe that America is the finest country on the planet.
2. Brazilians don't correct other people's Portuguese
If you are a student of Portuguese, you will find living in Brazil unhelpful because Brazilians prefer not to criticize gringos when they make mistakes in their Portuguese. This failure to correct foreigners’ Portuguese hinders their progress toward mastering the language and fluency and stunts their Portuguese language skills. Perhaps the reason Portuguese is considered a difficult language to learn is that Brazilians don’t assist outsiders in learning the language.
Sure, you don't want to correct everything that someone says. But when you hear someone saying something incorrectly, using a term that no one else uses, or mispronouncing a word, it’s kind to tactfully and politely correct him. The fact that you understand what he’s attempting to communicate doesn’t mean that everyone else does.
I understand that Brazilians are only trying to be kind and are quite sensitive to the feelings of others. If they correct the person they're talking to, they don't want to come across as a know-it-all or as arrogant in their approach. But that is a dark side of living in Brazil. Most learners appreciate it when they’re corrected since it helps grow in their knowledge of the language. You don’t need to organize or be in a class to fix someone's errors.

Screw this! In fact, we don't need to be admired or proud of anything. We continue our path without bringing chaos and war to the rest of the world, this is actually quite satisfactory. Plus, we don't have many tourists and immigrants affecting our routine and way of life, so it's great. Better think that this is a mess, a danger, etc., it doesn't make any difference. The day Brazil solves its problems and attracts a lot of attention to itself, it will lose its true essence.

As a European living in Brasil for 2 years I cannot complain about the culture and the people, they 99% warm, friendly and caring! There is no place like Brasil for me…but maybe it’s a place you dislike or love😀 they are very positive and everything is tranquilo! In general I think the people do very well respecting each other and living together in peace.

as a brazilian I think that agree. But I would say that we had a movement in art that was inspired on indigenus canibalism. The ideia was: we don't have a "culture" of our own in a sense, we "eat" worlds culture. If you see, Brazil culture is basicly the mixture of all cultures. We have a lot of culture actualy, but is not as interessing to us than for a turist. In america there are so many imigrants that is like everyone is a tourist. Also, USA have his own movies wich makes their culture more spread. In Brazil traveling to other areas is expensive and carnival is for many ofensive, as it is some africans religions for christians so the culture is in many aspects divided. There is a lot of interessing things about Brazil culture, actualy. We realy go over the top with the food that came from other countries, for example like pizza. But in history, you see, america thinks is a great history like the golden era that is gone. In Brazil the contry was aways messed up. Was never truly glorius, and in fact is the story of horrible politicians. So is kinda depressing. Our pratriotism is more in football. We can't be so much proud of our history. Also when brazilians go to other contries we are treated sometimes as thiefes or protitutes, ilegals and stuff. So we realy can be upset if someone talk bad stuff about our country while we say a lot about it, because we don't have the self steem of a united state citizen that lives in what he considers to be the best country on earth. We realy love turists, however, and are realy friendly

This is a common problem I see with many "Latin" Americn countries. They do not have a developed sense of nationhood and imagination (Mexico does a better job). In general, most nations are built on myths so I am not sure why you let the facts discourage you, For example before you unglamourously presented your country, I envisioned Brazil as a New Orleans of the South with better looking women, Both New Orleans and "Brazil" have high crime (highest murder rate in USA), extreme poverty, history of corrupt politicians and police, "offensive" carnival, good athletes, rich music, terrible past events, etc. yet New Orleans created a mystic about their image and embraced it. It took outsiders to start some of the Music festivals because they saw the beauty that the people of New Orleans did not see. The Rolling Stones probably wrote the best song about New Orleans ("Brown Sugar"). If you were emphasize key aspects of Brazilian culture, namely the Afro-Brazilian side, people would eat it up, but my impression is that unlike New Orleans (with Louis Armstrong, Fats Domino), Brazil is hesitant to embrace it's black figures who are some of the most interesting people in the Americas, e.g. the Tabom people. I think there is also a thing about Brazil not recognizing links to Africa... If I were President of Brazil I would focus on creating an image for the outside world because the right now the image presented is a complete neglected mess with so much potential. Look how they treated Pele's death compared to Maradona. I

Do you have this in Portuguese or in Portuguese subtitles? I loved many things you said. I have been living here for the past 2 years. I worked and lived here 3 years on and off before. I would love my friends here to see what you are saying. Especially my wife as she speaks 0 English and I have to communicate completely in Portuguese or use my Google translate on my phone. I stumble on words all the time. I would love to have help to move on to more words and have everyone understand me instead of sounding like a 3 or 4 year old child

3:13, this is so accurate. I was at a halloween party in my friend's condominium here in Brazil with my friends, we were supposed to arrive there at 5 pm, but me and my friends decided to arrive early, by 4 pm. Well, the party has started, we were gathering some candy, but then at NINE PM, one of my friends arrive, like, why'd she arrived 4 hours later? I get annoyed with this bs, I can't understand why people here in Brazil are always late to things and don't have compromise.

You are a special and unique person. Your life & soul matter. Your life is very short compared to eternity. Therefore if you want to spend eternity on heaven after your life here on earth 🌎, you should believe in your heart ❤️ that Jesus Christ is your Savior. If you don't, you will miss going to heaven and end up in the lake of fire. It is terrible so I beg you to make the only correct decision for God to allow you to go to heaven. Jesus Christ is the only way to eternal life. 🙏 Have a nice day. God does love ❤️ you.

Sorry but "Portuguese is difficult because Brazilians don't assist outsiders to learn the language", please, Portuguese is difficult because there are A LOT of rules to make a sentence and each variation has exceptions, add this to very specific accentuation, and words variations, it get's confusing for ourselves, I learn English in 1 year alone, my Portuguese in another hand until this day I don't get half of the rules, let's take for example the word WHY: In English you use WHY anywhere in a sentence, but then there is Portuguese: Porque - (together) Used for affirmative phrases, explanatory or casual. Por que - (separated) In interrogative questions which can be substituted for "pelo qual" and its variations. Por quê - (separated with accentuation) At the end of an interrogative phrase Porquê - (together with accentuation) when it's a noun (i think is this way its called) word. And this is just for ONE WORD. It's DIFFICULT, sometimes even for us, so we do assist, if we can understand each other there's no point in overcorrecting, and if any foreigner asks us to teach anything about the language we do, but please don't think by a second that you will learn Portuguese by yourself or that you will learn proper Portuguese without proper classes for I don't know 5 years?. I have three foreign friends that live here for more than 9 years doing classes and still they suffer to get the accents, fully understand the conversations, and especially to write it down.

@@zorbathegreek8339 Honestly, you don't really learn english in schools here, they basically just teach stuff like: "I am, she is, they are", my teacher can't even write a full sentence, much less speak english. Most people who speak english here are either self-taught (like me) or enrolled in an english course. This is just the results of the government neglecting the educational system to the point where no one wants to become a teacher. It's honestly pretty sad. You can still find english speaking guides and even get by without speaking a word of portuguese, so if people don't want to come because of the language barrier, shame on them

Oh man, I laughed at number 3. Being from Rio and living in the south, however, I'd say that the lack of punctuality isn't any better here. 4. "In 2020 Brazil started prioritizing the elimination of inequality". You must be talking about a different country with the same name. It's quite the opposite; increasing inequality has been the main goal of the federal government since 2016. If anything, taxation is more unequal now than it ever was. There's absolutely no movement whatsoever to reduce subsidies to the wealthy. Also, funding to education has been decreasing since 2016 and was the lowest in 10 years in 2021. 5. We are especially uninterested in our neighbors' culture (except maybe Argentina), which is a shame.

Good points. The gringo's perception was a little far from the reality. Many Brazilians have no idea that they could live and work legally in many South American countries, earning better wages, the only barrier is the language, although, I'm afraid that it's just another political trap to keep people poor and being exploited by the wealthy and corrupt politicians in Brazil, if anyone had a meaningful will to reduce social inequality, they could create a single market with free movement of goods and people in South America, like the one in Europe, teaching Spanish and Portuguese in the schools, but this project seems impossible without synergy and such selfish people in power..
@ferreira6699
@ferreira6699 2 года назад
@@zorbathegreek8339 Unfortunately, the language barrier is the main issue, more than political disagreements. Teaching Spanish and English in Brazilian schools, and increasing the information and relevance of all our South American neighbours could improve significantly the whole continent's synergy and boost the economy. The Brazilian population has no idea of how much it could benefit everyone in a meaningful way just by overcoming the language issue, but many insist on keeping the European or USA as the standard.
