The Dead Man Walking | Tornado 

I'm Native American and have heard the legend. But what I recall is that, while this type of tornado is called a "dead man walking tornado" for obvious reasons, the dead man is actually the person that saw it and survived. Supposedly the person should have had no chance for survival and died because of the extreme violence of the tornado, so his presence becomes ghostly. The legend observes the spirit world, which is respected and well understood by most Indians. Instead of just being a tornado that looks like it's walking, eventually the motion itself also became known as the dead man walking. That wasn't how it started from what I recall, but it's what people understand and it has taken root.

Not to mention the tornado took a sharp turn directly toward a subdivision of Jarrel and then stopped and hovered over the area for about three minutes. It's like it really was alive.

Our middle school was on a Texas history trip (down from Plano) and stayed at a motel in Jarrell or JUST outside of Jarrell the very same day. I was 12. I remember being in the motel parking lot and not being able to see past the parking lot because the atmosphere was so black. Like walls of black surrounded the motel...like nothing existed beyond the black or the hotel lights behind me (still kinda haunts me to this day) The lighting was so intense and ill never forget the fear I saw in one of the teachers faces when we were told to go inside. There is no doubt we narrowly escaped this tornado and I am so lucky to be typing this now. I am only now realizing 25 years later that I was seeing the darkness of death right in front of me. Us kids had no idea the severity of it. Big thanks to the teachers for keeping us calm. God bless

I think most or all of the people who died due to the dead men walking were all part of a subdivision, the tornado left only little bits and pieces of bodies, homes, cars, and etc. the tornado basically wiped the entire subdivision off the map. Strongest tornado I have ever seen

The early footage of its rope phase is arguably among the best of all time, the awful photo of its multivortex, the footage of it just *creeping* through jarrell as a large stovepipe. Its consequences were awful beyond belief but the footage is second to none…

I’m from MD, in my area we don’t see big tornadoes, we do get small ones, the last one that hit was near Walmart was in 2014 or 2015 and it was about and EF 0 to a EF 1. The worst tornado to hit MD was in 2001 in La Plata.

The scariest part, is whether you look at it from the front or the back, it is walking towards something.

The infamous photo of the Jerrell, Texas tornado is so haunting to me. Especially considering the damage it left behind. To me it almost looks like a hoofed leg, complete with the backwards bend the leg of a goat would have. Reminds me of some sort of goat/devil monster of death, complete with scythe. It even looks like it has a nub tail of a goat. Truly horrifying.😖

If this is real then why didnt they just show the footage? What sense dors it make to go to still frame when you havent even shown it in motion? They stopped showing video to show doctored images.

The way I am seeing it, it's not really a dead man-walking tornado, perhaps it looked like one, but it's a two-funnel of tornado that occurred at a time. Twin tornado ... how can a dead walk..tsk!
