I didn't realize my stabilization was off while recording this vlog. Did my best in post-production. Either way, I was attacked by deer in Nara. I wasn't expecting that haha. Have you been to Nara before or plan to visit!?
I want to go visit one day, what are the purposes for all the lamps outside of the shrines? And as a tourist what should we not do if we do enter the shrines or temples?
I had such a laugh with your video! I went to Nara in 2019 and I was also attacked by deers when I was trying to feed them, I bought the cookies and thought they will wait patiently... Oh boy! I was wrong! Lol! Also, it was raining as well! ❤️☔
I've always wanted to go here! I'm surprised none of the videos I've seen have shown the stairs and temple the way you did (guess too crowded) shows how big it is! Great shots, lol deer blocking the bathroom
I’ve been to Nara park for the deers but didn’t have time for anything else. Wish I got some time to walk around the shrines and temples but I don’t think it will be as peaceful when tourists are allow back in Japan. I really vibe with that 💙
I visited Nara over 30 years ago on a school trip. So much history there, but it's mostly a blur now. The teachers didn't let us spend too long w the deer, which may have been great grandparents to today's deer. It was a lot of fun, even though I've forgotten so many moments from that day. I do remember Tōdai-ji though. It's too impressive to forget.
Hey Chris, great video! The peaceful vibe came through beautufuly; it felt as I was there myself. Please do more videos like that off all the different places you visit.
I was there the year after I first met you at the TDR meet. I was swarmed and bitten as well by the deer and visited the Buddha. I was actually just looking through all the books and postcards I picked up during that trip just last night. Hopefully tourists can start to return to Japan and this virus will start going away.
I had gone to Todai-ji and Horyu-ji in Nara back in 2007 and plan to go back next year if/when the borders ever reopen. Sad though that what would have been one of the highlights of my whole Japan trip, Nara Dreamland (the almost original Disneyland in Japan) had been destroyed completely with nothing left to see. I would have loved to have gone there opened or abandoned.
Those deer sure can be aggressive. One bit me in the pants last week and I didn't even have any food! It sure looks a lot different now with so many more tourists!
Something to mention is, that the deer have been not fed much during covid since the tourists are missing in Nara which explains why they're so hungry and a bit aggressiv.
We loved our day in Nara. More crowded than for you. We were there last October. I was bitten too. Lol. They have teeth kind of like people. And they pinch. But very beautiful place
I like the theme park content but seeing other cool things around Japan is good too. It brings back memories when I went. 🥺 we also went to Nara. And we also were bit by the deer. They cute though. 🥰
@@tdrexplorer I live in boring old England so Japan is a magical dream place. Anything from its neon life, its anime, theme parks even down to the vending machines I will watch it all. Love your videos your doing a fantastic job.
felt the same when i first went there 5 yrs ago! Attacked by deer and then amazed at how huge the temple is 😄Maybe the deers are hungry these days cause there are less tourists feeding them? 😅😂
You gave away your snacks without a bow :-( I remember an unruly mob, but still being able to bow, have the deer bow, and then given the deer cracker. It was beautiful. I look forward to going again.
My in-laws used to live in Ikoma, which is in Nara prefecture. You may like to visit, because despite being a small town it has a bizzare kids amusement park on top of the mountain and a hilarious cat and dog train that climb the mountain to reach the park. Big recommendation
@@tdrexplorer what makes it even more bizzare is the cat and dog cable car is also just the regular commuter train for people who love on the mountain. So you've a mix of excited kids and tired salary men.
We stopped in Nara on our way from Mt Koya to Osaka. It was pouring rain but being able to interact with the deer was so worth it. We also stopped to see the big Buddha which took our breath away.
hi chris i have never been in Nara when i went to japan i went to Kumamoto i wanted to visit tokyo too but it was when the earthquake and the tsunami happened back in 2011 i spent 3 months on miyasaki hyuga
We’ve seen that full day walk itinerary and want to do this too. Can we use the JR rail pass on those trains? Those deer are adorable, if a bit pushy!! Ok, very pushy. I still can’t wait to feed them one of these days!
I love that place, actually really miss it even though I visited twice! I bought two lucky charms from the temple I think it was one of the best souvenirs I got in Japan!
I took the earliest train from Osaka to visit Nara (I think it was around 4.30 AM?) . Saw some deers but not too many. Visited the Todaiji temple. I love the early mornings in Japan. So peaceful.
We had plans to visit Nara on the trip we cancelled (March 2020). We'll probably skip it next time because we have a kid now and I don't want the deer to get him 😰. Maybe when he's older.
From what I can tell as long as you don't feed the deer you're fine. The only time they ever came up to me was when I had the crackers. Other than that, they couldn't care less about my presence.
@TDR Explorer Great video Chris, it was so funny to see the deer corner you haha! I have a question about the temple with the Buddha statue in it, can visitors bring offerings for it? When I visit someday, I'd like to do that it if it's allowed :)
It is deer hunting season here in the US. Not something I participate in but a lot of my coworkers do. I understand why it needs to be done, but all I think about is Bambi's Mom. I hope to visit Japan some day when travel is open again.
