Ashley: arent they support to spend it on the first born ...no, the first born is the one who is treated the worst..I mean pushed the hardest. They are expected to be perfect, no less. The middle is ignored. And the youngest gets all the good attention, they are spoiled. I'm the first born. Being the oldest, I'm supposed to be more mature, and do everything for myself. My younger brother is spoiled like crazy. (because I had a brother before him pass away so my mom has always protected him bc she's scared) We now have a baby sister, I usually take care of her so she's a spoiled to, but like she is only 1 so we have no idea how she'll be treated.💀

Since I was in middle school, my group of friends (4) has this tradition where for one's birthday we only give a homemade cake made by the other three and random small gift. I always asked what they wanted and also if they would have liked it after I bought it without showing the gift. The others always said that it ruined the surprise but I feel like we both would feel worse if she didn't like it

Just donate clothes instead of throwing them away if they are in good condition. I love hearing how you support each other as friends. I think there can be pressure especially if someone doesn’t have much money if gifts are expected. I love the story of him getting gifts for his mom and cousins. Gifts don’t need to be expensive to be enjoyable or special. Heartfelt , thoughtful gifts mean the most.

Here for those "weird to unwanted, tag, label less surplus gifts" we have a party, where all guests bring their unwanted wrapped gifts. Each guest puts it under the tree, and gets a number. Then #1 goes and chooses a random gift, #2 then has option to take #1's gift or pick a new one, #3 (and so on down the line) has the option to take 1 of the gifts from those before them or get a new one... at the end #1 then has the option to take 1 gift from previous (since they were 1 "stealing/taking" was not an option to begin) It's actually quite fun. Some brought items are zonks some are pretty good and guests really get into the game

Watching this in 2022 and I loved it so much. Everyone is so good. Michael, I can relate to your story and I got emotional. Alex, you’re such a nice guy ever since childhood kudos to you. I was able to convince my family to do secret Santa this year. Hopefully this will prevent the usual onslaught of unusable gifts that would inevitable sit in some random corner of my room, collecting dust. This way everyone will hopefully get one gift that’s actually useful, rather than a bunch of random things they don’t really want or need.
