I must say that I had the pleasure of seeing this incredible group perform in Reading Pa back in 2001, I was blown away! I was mesmerized by Marvin when he started singing, I couldn’t get him out of my head. He was definitely the best baritone singer I ever had the pleasure to see perform. Rest well, you will forever be missed 😩😘😚

Marvin was one of the greatest, and most consistent baritone voices ever. He maintained his great voice throughout the Dells' 60 plus year career. Check it Out! Ciao!!!

Marvin Junior and Johnny Carter's voices were out of this world when they were younger but I can't leave. Chuck, Vern and Michael out because they are the Dell's too. What a close not bond they had.Rest in peace Johnny, Marvin and Chuck you served us well and we'll never forget you.

My uncle Johnny said before he passed, on August 2, 2009, he doesn't know why there's been no review of spotlight on his combined accomplishments on him a member of THREE groups that he sang professionally with: The Dells, The Flamingos (my grandmother named that group) and the group Dinah Washington assembled called "D's Gentlemen" ...

Marvin Junior...a voice like nobody else on earth. I saw this show in Pittsburgh the same year. The Dells had an unmistakable sound that can't be copied. Johnny Carter was with the Flamingo's for years and sang falsetto lead on one of their earliest hits, "A Kiss From Your Lips" ! If you like 50's music, look it up and listen to it...he too was simply one of a kind. Add Verne Allison, Chuck Barksdale, and Michael McGill and you have the greatest doo-wop/ soul group there ever was and ever will be. Sure I liked them all, but these guys were incomparable ! Some say February 3, 1959, the music died...I say it was just starting. When Verne and Michael pass on, too me that will be the day that true soul music died !

THANK YOU carvcom1 for posting this wonderful video. My wife and I were at that event in Philadelphia and we followed them since the late 1960's. I wish that all groups were like the DELLS. Over 50 years all members stayed together. The true ambassadors of R&B, Soul, Rock and etc., since the death of the two lead singers Marvin Junior (05/29/2013) and Johnny Carter (08/21/2009) they will always be missed. We have a group called the Universal African Dance and Drum Ensemble and we use the MIGHTY DELL as one of our legendary role-models. PLEASE SUPPORT OUR OLD-SCHOOL LEGENDARY GROUPS who many of them are in their late 60's 70's and 80's. MUCH LOVE TO THE DELLS FOREVER. Brother Robert Dickerson

No the Originals were on Motown and those songs were produced by Marvin Gaye who structured the song in the Dells style . Rumor had it that he wrote those for the Dells but Motown didn't allow it.
