Teddy's voice (pre-accident) had what I believe a co-worker/friend would describe as "depth." He had a big range (bottom note to top), dynamics (pianissimo to mucho blastisimo - mind you, while the former is an actual musical term, the latter is not), and just so many colors and textures as he utilized the full capacity of that extraodinary voice he had. I typically prefer him singing more softly, because I love the resonance/richness that I hear in his voice then. But I can understand that there are those who think he's at his best at the "mucho blastisimo" level, when his voice is gritty and raw. But that he could have that level of "range" (not referring to how many octaves he could sing) and how he utilized that in the way he delivered a song is truly extraordinary.
Correct since we are all l ike every drop of a snow flake! All testament to the Greatness of The Creator of All! Problem is most humans want to shift things from The Creator of All and that's when serious things can and Happen. Those who followed Teddy P's Life can attest. Heck Thos who follow King Nebuchadnezzars life could as well!
The intense emotion at 4:00 is way too much. I love singers from this time period they got so involved with the music and the message of the song. 4:15 is Teddy really feeling it. An amazingly talented vocalist.
Teddy had the star quality in every sense. The man had a voice like pure silk, husky, soulful and he emoted every word of the songs he gifted us with and was born to sing. Teddy was one of the best male vocalists to have lived! He was delectable too and he had women of all ages swooning and still does. It was sad he passed away at only 59 and the year he performed this in 1982 he had his car accident.
He gets his credit, He just died too soon,as so many. Teddy will live forever, because we won't let his memory or talent and songs die Still listening 10-1-2023 and will listen as long as I can hear. This is my favorite of all of his songs, but he didn't have any that don't have special meaning. Teddy and so many will always touch so many hearts
Teddy was so mesmerising ...He sung with his voice. his body, his face, , his smile and every part of himself...He felt the words he sang in everty song he sang....You cant take your eyes off him well I cant anyway...Amazing!
Teddy singing like he came home to a 3 day eviction notice and had to make sum shake 🤣🤣🤣 I'm 29 obviously this was b4 my time but my mama love her sum teddy p
I sure do miss the 70s and 80s. The music today is not even the same. Sometimes I wish I could find a time machine and go back in time. Life was much easier and everyone enjoyed life! Is this your favorite song?
Its nice to see a genuine love ballad that doesn't involve explicit lyrics about digging all up inside of a woman rather that expresses the emotions of what he was feeling. Thank God for people like the late Pendergrass who made it nice to not have to take off your shirt to get a crowd going wild.
Teddy defined "commanding stage presence." How he stood. Held the mic. Mannerisms. Hand gestures. The way he moved. Ooooooozed sexuality. And of course that voice! WOW!

Teddy could truly sing. His God given talent was real and not created in a studio. The emotion and clarity he brought to his performances was special. A lot of the singers today can barely pronounce the words in their songs! I miss the days when songs spoke about the love, hope and inspiration women want to give their man. Unfortunately today songs are written to denigrate and destroy the heart of women. Words matter! It's taken a terrible toll on our culture. Frankly, I think the world is sick of it and with the current climate we are in, it's time for a change. The next handsome, innately talented male singer who figures this out and goes back to singing songs of inspiration and praise of women will be the next superstar.
james brooks he knew he was a good singer, gamble & huff also knew that's they decided to used him on the recording projects they had initially in store for THE DELLS (they were trying to get THE DELLS but the deal didn't work out).He did a few recording b 4 Harold Melvin & blue notes.
More beautiful than the Mona Lisa, Worth more than gold, My eyes had a pleasure to behold❤️🥰 My Latest, My greatest inspiration. Good Lord those words alone 💯💯💯
P.S. I saw Teddy perform live in Los Angeles at The Greek Theatre back in 1982. If memory serves me correctly, he ended his performance with this song. Talk about "drop the mic." Imagine for a moment the long applause, cheers, and standing ovation he then received. Breathtaking!
I like when a man compliments me, but no one does it better than Teddy P. He inspires me to get a man that looks like him, talk like him and thinks highly of me. I love you Teddy P. Always rest in peace, love your soul.
Music is art. Artists are getting into a realm of magic and beauty. Soul takes this art to a greater reach and Teddy's voice connected effortlessly with what black folks know as soul.
A sad day . . . the one year anniversary of the loss of a beautiful man with a beautiful voice. Missing you Teddy!!! So glad you live on through music and video. No one can ever take your place! With a voice so sexy, you knew how to say what a woman wants and needs to hear to release the passion deep within her soul. Love you . . .
"I don't mind going up (higher) way up, baby (higher) way up, baby (higher) way up on a mountaintop, baby telling the whole world exactly what I've got, baby" (higher, higher)
I woke up just around 6 am. I fell asleep listening to a sermon. This song is what I heard in my head/heart.. Now, I have no one I am in love with but Him. I've been asking Him to inspire me, and I never really listened to T.P. Oh, i knew his songs when I heard it, and I recognize his voice. But this is not how I heard this song this morning. But I heard the lyrics and melody. I can not explain what I heard... but it was this song. So, I listened to it Word for word. How can it not be about God? ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
He was amazing ! I remember buying tickets for my mother for Mother’s Day . She had to work 😢. So my sister and I went to Valley Forge Music Fair . I was 15 years old we had front seats . The stage turn toward us . I can still remember his cologne . I just watched the ladies screamed and throw their panties . I laughed . Wish my mom had went she probably would have thrown hers too .. Amazing concert

WOW!! Can't get much better than this! His voice, style, presence, and strong emotion - haven't seen anyone come close in the last decade or so. RIP Teddy
We don't sing like this anymore truly adoring and cherishing a woman who make us better men and the Philly Legend that was or s Teddy Pendergrass one of the best of our times one of the Voices he brought Church and sang!!!!!!
All music today is vulgar, stupid, what happened to pride and love? They don't love themselves very much do they? These were the real men of music, especially my beloved Teddy.
There are some young artist that deserve a listen... Daniel Ceazear, H.E.R., Leon Bridges, Kiana Lede, Kehlani, Jhene Aiko, Sampha, Kwabs, Emile Saunde, Labrynth, Alyessia Cara, some mis spelled names but fire 🔥 modern music with substance +Oh and *GREGORY PORTER* modern Jazz vocalist that's crazy good.
The strings in this song mesmerize me. When the song reaches its apex, the strings accompany TP’s voice and makes one feel part of the song. Beautiful music indeed
When I first saw the London Philharmonic (RU-vid) perform behind the Delphonics I began to sob - the sight/sound of that "ghetto/black" music, (for me the most beautiful music ever created), being backed by one the most famous Philharmonics in the world, just did me in. I am tearful now just remembering that.
1-2023 Still loving and missing his voice and seeing him perform. I really love the raw deepest in his voice and feelings ! BEAUTIFUL WORK OF ART he was. One of my Greatest inspirations 💯🔥🔥💜🌪️🎶🎶🎶🎶
That was awesome. Teddy was "The Man". Saw him back in the day when he toured with Sephanie. He was untouchable in his era. My wife was definitely "ready" when we got back home. Hats off to one of the greatest entertainers I've had the pleasure to witness.
Cry like a baby when I hear this. I had a woman like he is singing about and then she became the love I lost. Now I miss her and this guy Teddy P sings it like no one else NO ONE
@mycalling52 I am another person who can't put into words the feeling I get hearing this beautiful man sing. It does things to me that are beyond expression.
dont get me wrong...i love all of the songs that teddy made famous...used them many romantic nights with women over the years...but, there is something ELECTRIC about this song....stunning vocals....such a smooth groove....RIP Teddy P!
Au sommet de son art vocalement, puissante ,justesse, douceur ainsi que les choeurs d accompagnement lors de ce concert extraordinaire....TEDDY TU NOUS MANQUES❤🔥💫
Mr. Pendergrass did not learn this. This cannot be taught. Soul was carefully formed and fashioned in Heaven and he, among scores of other Greats, was chosen to show the world what ONLY God can do. 👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾 In God’s Peace, Teddy P., rest and thank you. 🕊🙂
