This Leonard guy is pound by pound among the most talented singers you can find...And the band can be considered punk in a sense, but plays more elaborated music... And their style is different than "regular punk", alone by itself among its peers... They are really top quality material. Just by listening to their cover of black Sabbath's "Paranoid" you can tell. They make me proud of living in S.Cali
The Dickies, they transcend all nationalities. People who don't speak English still love the Dickies. Cheers to you. United in good music. I saw them live. Rock on. We're all rollers.
Thanks for posting brings back memories! I've seen these guys like 8 or 9 times. Once I ran into Stan and Leonard and I told them that their next gig was sold out because I love this friggin band and I felt bad for them that only a handful of people had showed up for their gig.
My now husband came over for a date in 1983. He was a drummer. I put this song on and he asked if it was too loud. Ha, celebrating our 28th anniversary. He still thinks it's too loud.
Thanks a bunch for posting this! It is a great song I agree, but their version of the Banana Splits theme and Manny Moe and Jack are two of my other favorites by them. Of course, the album version of this song is of much better quality, but seeing them perform it live is so cool.
Just to let all Dickies fans know, Robert Lansing ( Enoch Hain ) has passed away today July 25th at 10:56 am. He was a former employee here at the Bermuda Guitar Institute as an instructor. As a born again Christian he led me to Jesus and we had some excellent times jamming at our local church on the praise team. You will be missed brother.
@GdR696 You can hear yourself sing better with your finger in your ear- especially when there is poor monitors on stage. Leonard kind of adapted it into his style- he told me so himself.
You may be right about that! I feel bad that I didn't learn about them until very recent years. Even now they're old I still want to listen to them perform live. Leonard's voice is so unique I can't help but enjoy it. Respect! I wish just once I could see and hear them do a live play of 183. I like all their original songs VERY MUCH but I am not a big fan of "cover songs", although I have to say their rendition of White Satin is pretty great. Is brilliant that they did it with the faster tempo to put a harder spin to it!
Most people don’t know that Leonard is a really heavy cat musically. He was a progger in high school, understands harmony and melody and applies it in their songwriting.
Yeah, I always got the impression that he wasn't just taking the piss when they covered Nights in White Satin. There was a very brief but glorious time when he was pretty interactive with his facebook account. It was always some pretty funny shit coming out of left field, but also kind of brainy.
Found out about this band just recently and I kinda like it, but can anyone explain what is up with the leadsinger putting his finger in his ear? what is the story behind that?
He said at some times that "helps [him] sing" and also he said "chicks dig it" lol l like it, it adds more uniqueness to the band and that's almost never a bad thing. Oh and sometimes he put it into his ear and sometimes he puts it into his temple.
Not a fan of Hain, who I think brought in some terrible overprocessed shredder guitar tones but man, Buhne was probably the best bassist the Dickies ever had. Almost progressive in places and you'd think it wouldn't work but damn, listen to those lines during the choruses. Super creative.
Q: Who is the single most under-rated act in the history of Rock and Roll A: The Dickies!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Q: Who has a better attitude than Leonard? A: Nobody!!!
I disagree: who played the saxo and the keyboards after Chuck Wagon passed away? And Kaballero on the drums and Billy Club on bass and backing vocals made superior quality music in my opinion.
Can you tell me some thing if you know about this: In one The Dickies video(not this one), Leonard introduces Jon Melvoin but when he said it he gestured towards the drumkit... BUT I thought Jon was a guitarist for the band. Is Jon in this video at 0:39 playing guitar? Was Len high on crack when he introduced Jon as the drummer? Did I get false info and Jon really was a drummer for them at some point? I also read a thing - I also don't know if this is true: - that said Mr. Melvoin died in a hotel from a heroin overdose. Anyway what do you think about these? I think you know a lot more about the band than I so that's why I asked you. Thanks 🎩😼
