Someone laced him when he came back to fresno after he was released by the jets and his mind was never the same still one of the Best football players to come out of west Fresno California 💯
I met Cliff on 9/17/11 right after they demolished Missouri state. 56-7 being a defensive minded guy he was my favorite player at the time. I was wearing a custom #13 C. Harris Jersey. He was standing away from everybody at the meet and greet with who I believe was his GF. I wasn't trying to be all annoying and didn't approach him. I'll always remember hearing "Aye, 13 come over here fam" I looked at him like me ? "Yeah you come over here" as I walked over he extended his hand for a Dap then pulled me in for a hug and said "thanks for all the support I feel the love and had to recognize the realest one here" he signed my jersey and gave me his wrist band. We talked for like 10 minutes. I'll always remember that day. #13 will always be special to me.
cliff was such a good dude idk what happened to him. guessing mental health and drugs... as a bunch of my homies have fallen to similar problems but dude was a good dude and i assume he still is a good dude. mental health and drugs will lead to terrible things... i hope dudes doing well.
Kid probably had some childhood trauma and once he tried some substances he realized they helped him cope. Unfortunately drug’s really take a hold of a person in that situation. It’s sad but it’s why we need to do more to help support people in this situation and help them break the cycle for future generations.
He's not a disappointment. He's a young man still. He needs help. Fresno still rocks with you Cliff. Rooting for you. Maybe not a hall of fame player, but he can make a hall of fame comeback in life.
I think one of the things I really had a hard time wrapping my head around until I was probably in my late 30s is how much people get messed up by mental health issues (usually undiagnosed) as well as bad home or environment situations. A bad environment can heavily contribute to all kinds of mental health issues. When you end up with one or both of these things, and don’t have a support system or just people who just think you are an f-up, it’s not going to turn out well. That said I think it’s also up to people to realize their own issues and try to get help with them. So many people just take zero accountability or even take much time to be introspective about how all of the problems they are facing get caused by the choices they make and their own behavior. I say this as someone with plenty of my own incurable issues and struggles, but I do my best to not let it affect others and try my best to be a decent and productive human.
Yep. Ptsd is real. As kids, you dont understand you're being affected as you live it. Like seeing parents fighting or getting bullied etc you dontvl realize it affected you all your life, until wat later in life. And that's if you're lucky enough to see thst you have an issue caused by past trauma. Even just joining a gang and going through fights or having to deal with rivals as a teen, give these kids ptsd. These kids probably join gangs from having ptsd from being bullied or beaten up by the guys in the neighborhood 2 blocks over etc. Many of those kids were good, nerdy kids in grade and middle school, only to turn into stone cold killers once they're in high school. Mental health definitely is way bigger and more ppl have some type of mental health issues then ppl think.
I had both, barely ate, 10 brothers and sisters. We always lived in the same house, the gays were coming out all around us kids. No clothes, sex acts in the streets right in front of us. Yeah we smoked weed, well my siblings did. We went to catholic school, I went onto catholic girls HS. Mommie tried to help me with my home work after working hard at work. But it was in English, Spanish, and Italian. We didn't have it easy. We were clean, always respectful. Never got in trouble. I was molested age 4-12. I'm sure my sisters might have been also. My brother's dodged the priests. I'm 59 now. Mental health what? We never heard of that crap till these past couple of years. This sissy generation. This drugged out generation. All 11 of us never been to jail, we did try drugs like weed beer ciggys. Mommie didn't put up with that crap.
I was seeing for mental health issues and prescribed the wrong meds my entire young adult life. Took one new doctor to switch my meds and everything went right. I can never get back over a decade of my life. So frustrating. Even people who seek help don’t always get it.
Man, you finally got me I appreciate you doing this story I’ve requested on a number of your videos. I know it’s probably been annoying, but I appreciate you finally getting it. You’re the goat.
Dang Cliff was one of my favorite players when I was young, I remember all the Cliff Harris has better coverage than cell phone company memes smh hate to see him like that. Darron Thomas was the one that said “we smoked it all” when they got pulled over, he was Oregon’s QB.
@@HaveAHeartAnimalSanctuary people really need to take CTE seriously...one of a big trend with serial killers is ONE major incident of 'head truama'..which injurs your frontal lobe, ultimately affecting ALOT about your personality...FOOTBALL PLAYERS HAVE CONSTANT HEAD TRUAMA! ..yall think Football players are the MOST with murders and violent crimes!??
I swear universities claim to care about students’ mental health but only makes it worse and makes it awkward for students to seek mental health assistance. If uni’s really cared every student would get mandatory counseling/therapy. I feel like every student needs it
I have to say as a very loyal subscriber, and as any true fan of this channel would know that Matt has already done a video on the story of trevone Boykin it was a about a year ago , just wanted to throw that out there, love your work keep it up !! Look forward to watching your videos every day !!
I came across Cliff Harris's name on an old high football recruiting list a few days ago, and said to myself what happened to this guy?. He looked like a sure fire lock to be in the NFL.
Do a guy who was on the opposing team for the national championship in 2010 Michael McNeil. He was a star DB for Auburn, but then he was involved in an armed robbery.
He might’ve suffered from early onset schizophrenia. MJ has been to trigger that in males, and young males (mid to late teens) in general are more likely to develop schizophrenia than girls at that same age. CTE can only be diagnosed after death. Schizophrenia lines up more with erratic behavior with it being both a separation in thought and action. He might’ve had it before Mj use and MJ probably just accelerated it, if not triggered it completely. Just a theory tho. Wish him the best.
Yes, yes, yes…..to everything you’ve stated here. My Son experienced MJ induced schizophrenia/psychosis his very first time, as a teenager. HOWEVER, even when he stopped, the mental breaks continued.
As a MJ veteran of 40 years, having shared it with innumerable people, it took me a while to accept that it really effs some people up. It seemed so benign to me, which made it hard to relate to people who got sent down a dark cave from it. I went from thinking it works for everyone to being the guy who cautions new users. Especially friends who want to do stuff like give a parent an edible for whatever they're going through.

I grew up in Eugene and watched the ducks at there peak when he was on the team. Still one of the best athletes I’ve ever seen in person. Hope he’s doing better
Don’t have sh to do with football, this is their personality, there are literally MILLIONS of football players that DONT do these kinds of things!!! Don’t blame a sport that has saved MILLIONS from lives of poverty and crime
That bit from his mom hit pretty hard. We tend to forget that sometimes.. that someone sees everyone as their baby boy or girl and is always rooting for them to overcome whatever struggles theyre going through and are always in their corner. We should do better and try to remember that. Life is tough and we're all just trying to make it the best way we know how. Thanks for including that bit. Shines a different light on the subject. Hopefully this man gets his life together before its too late.
If smoking bud and driving 107 Mph are deal breakers for the NFL, how are there any players? I would venture to guess that if you’re an American male under the age of 55, there’s a distinct possibility that you’ve done both, probably simultaneously, especially in your late teens/early 20’s… I know I have, shit, that’s what there was to do in the mid-90’s unless you were indoctrinated by the G-zus lot, your only social interactions were in the form of extended bouts of uncomfortable silence and your idea of going out was youth group.
@@Silverfox1982but they’ll claim our generation is nothing but disrespectful animals and clowns. I respect older people to the max as I have to work with them very often as a mover with a contract at a retirement home. But some of the shit I see these karens saying on social media about how our age group is nothing but trash, actually pisses me off bad 😂
Bro I have legitimately never pushed my sedan to 107 on a suburban road or highway because I don't wanna die lol Let alone after I just smoked a bunch, if anything I always followed the rules to a T knowing I was riding dirty
Do a video on Fred Rouse he was the number 2 recruit at receiver behind Patrick turner and was a five star Edit: Like so we can see the vid or like others that have the same idea
Yea and I’m from the mitten. He’s on our coaching staff currently. He had weird incident in Florida where he fell asleep at the wheel and went into a pond. He ended up being totally sober lol. But it still looked bad. He said he was coming from a long work out. And he a had a chick in the whip. But he got a Natty this year year with is in Ann Arbor 💯💯💯. #GoBlue
How can you smoke weed and drive that fast? If I smoke I can't even drive 45mph because it feels like im going 100. I would get a ticket for driving too slow if I drove on a freeway high. He looks like a young Rick James in his mug shot.😂
I'm going way back, but the best running back in Long Island history was Jim Brown. Jason Gwaltney didn't have the burst that Brian Cushing had over in New Jersey. I saw them both play on TV. Gwaltney was pile driving dudes who you knew weren't going to be major college prime time Saturday players. Cushing played across the Hudson River RB & LB at Ramsey (NJ) Don Bosco Prep against much better competition and showed out. Jason Gwaltney's blocking back; Richard "Scooter" Berry at North Babylon (NY) HS actually had the much better career at West Virginia.
@@howardroy.williamsjr.8695 I graduated from North Babylon in 1996.. we had some great running backs in the 90's and beyond. Barry Baker and Ian Smart as well
People always say things like, "all he had to do was a, b, and c" No. You clearly don't understand the pressure from all sides that exists for high-profile student athletes.
I sympathize with him over the license issue. Once it gets suspended or revoked once you get stopped once for driving on a suspended license it starts a snowball effect. But hes messed up. Is it head injuries? I think the concussions effect some others different. Look at Antonio Brown, he was some what normal until he took that nasty hit in a game when he played for Pittsburgh. He's never been the same and his behavior has been and still is erratic. I'm not blaming the game of football, only because as a player you have to be aware of the possibility that you will end up with a TBI. It's just inevitable and that is a chance you take to try and better yourself and help their families to get out of the poverty. It's Russian roulette
As a lions fan I would like to see a story on wide receiver Titus Young. He was a 2nd round pick by the lions but his mental health wasn’t addressed and he was out of the league faster than he came in.
do a vid on THOMAS TYNER ! Played for Oregon and Oregon state ! He was the greatest Oregon HS RB of all time ! Crazy stats . One game had over 650 rushing yards plus 6 TDs the same game.
The craziest thing is he had 6 INT’s and 4 punt return TD’s in just FIVE games! Including a INT in the championship game v.s auburn. That’s what made me find this video. Looking through past championship games and seeing the names I remembered through the years. Cliff Harris was definitely one, I remember he was extremely touted after the 2010 season. Like possibly the best CB prospect in the class, crazy he didn’t play in the NFL because what he did in those five games is pretty much unmatched.
Matt, are you familiar with the Todd Marinovich story. If not,you are in for a crazy ride. A kid who was raised by his former NFL playing father to be the perfect specimen of an athlete/Quarterback. His father was basically the sports version of the worst "Stage Mom" there ever was. Thank you bud, for all your entertaining and informative videos and the hellaciously hard work you put into your channel. Peace. 😊
He already did one for Treyvon Boykin, and tyran matthieu is still playing 😂 he just singed a 2 year extension with the saints. He was a key piece of that one Super Bowl team, just had multiple career ending type injuries and was missing the field a lot.
Where was his dad in all of his formative years? Before the Civil Rights Act of 1964 and LBJ's welfare state, nearly 75% of black kids were raised in two parent homes. Now the number is only about 25%. Crime, poverty, teen pregnancy, dropout rates all strongly correlate to fatherless homes. The rest of western society has the same problem, but only at a fraction of this rate.
It is 100% a demon (or demons). We deify these young men from early adolescence and wonder why they burn out when their sport doesn’t work out. Yes, there is a major component called PERSONAL CHOICE/RESPONSIBILITY, but we as a society have got to stop glorifying these athletes.
Jealousy Is a hell of a drug, whoever laced , whatever he was drinking was very diabolical, and most definitely envious of this man. Someone wanted him to take a great fall. 😢🙏🏽
I worked at a state mental hospital and he was a patient on the unit I worked on. I would have never known he was even an athlete unless someone showed me a video if his college highlights. He definitely had a problem with smoking way too much herb.
@@NARwarsgalaxy Im from Fresno CA born and raised, I know a lot about this story and unless his weed was laced this has very little to do with weed and if you really worked at a state hospital then you should know that. I believe that most people from this area go to Coalinga hospital so IDK if you are being completely honest but either way. This story is very sad and I always looked up to woo and knew he would make it and then it just started going down hill but either way. He a Fresno legend forsure.
Do one on Darron Thomas. I thought he was for sure gonna be a star qb in the nfl. He was the passenger whom u didn’t acknowledge because u probably don’t know him. But he was a heisman candidate back in his day
It pissed me off how he didn’t even acknowledge him in the video for being in the car. If you’re a big college fan, you definitely know the name, especially when you make videos on the topic. Some of these channels mean well, but it seems to be quantity over quality in some instances.
@@judahisrael-wj1yeCool. He still wasn’t a heisman candidate. Baby Brees? Brees was 2x Big Ten OPOY. Thomas wasn’t. Again. He wasn’t even first team all conference. There is a reason he wasn’t drafted. And, no. He wasn’t better than Mariota.
Not them laughing back at the squad car…..Trust me, there was a way to keep it OUT of the news. I mean, for it to make it to the news, someone had to LEAK it. So, it’s a game of pick and choose who gets screwed. Nothing new, especially for young black men.
Chip let them do whatever they wanted while he was there , let Colt, Deanthony Thomas, Cliff and many others get away with whatever they wanted till the law was involved. The car was a university employee in that original video.
Schizophrenia dosen't manifest itself until the late teens to early 20 in males! I really don't think it is a CTE issue because cornerbacks really don't have very many high speed collision!
I went to Dorsey High 09-13 and around that time everybody wanted to go to Oregon 😂💯. Cliff Harris and Black Mamba was all the homies talked about. It’s crazy to see how things turned out for him
U think that was a crazy oregon downfall story??? Try checking out colt lyerla's downfall story... even worse.. edit: I see u already did.. going to watch now
Ppl have hard times. Its easy to say he had everything, yada yada, but if your incomplete inside your soul NOTHING will help or work. Its easy to judge ppl and poke fun, but dude was hurting inside from something.
Kash Harris!! Can you believe he and TJ McDonald former USC safety occupied the same defense growing up through HS? There was another dude y’all never got to hear about lol but Relando Jefferson. If you wanna look up his highlights from Edison HS.. it was child’s play
In Chips short tennure as head coach of Oregon, he had some wild player behaviors and suspensions. Chips first game as head coach was the infamous lagarret Blount punch of the boise state player, then this one.
I went to Oregon in 2010 and had a class with cliff harris and from the beginning he was a strange and weird dude from the start. It sucks that this happened to him.
Chip Kelly had a knack for finding these troubled types of guys, and getting some wins out of them; Harris, Darren Thomas ( who coulda been a heisman candidate), Jeremiah Masoli, Kiko Alonzo,…
Its a sad story especially being from fresno watching him from edison to Oregon and coining the "natty"..now you can find him on the west side mlk street begging for change its sad
16:45 I'm reminded a lot of Chavo Guerrero's comments on CTE (I'll paraphrase them slightly): We try not to think about the fact we [wrestlers, though any contact sport athlete is included] all have it, and it's going to eventually take a part of, or possibly all of, our personalities and memories from us - some sooner than others. It's hard to say for certain CTE is responsible for his recent decision making - especially since he made some questionable decisions pretty early on in his football career - but it sure feels like this is the case.
What a ridiculous thing to say and if you are talking about this man why on earth would he break into a party city of all places if he wasn't mentally ill or under some sort of psychosis. Stop generalising ISH that isn't general.
Being the #54 player in the country regardless of position is nothing to be sneezed at. That alone makes you most wanted by darn near everyone. That's prime cut right there.
What about a deep dive story on Len Bias? Not one that leaves the University of Maryland and the NBA unaccountable, they knew what was going on behind the scenes 100%. Im from Md btw and a vaguely remember it when i was a little kid
I forgot all about this dude. Wasn't he like a Champ Bailey type? He mostly played corner, but he was also great in the return game and would sometimes play offense. Besides all of that, Oregon is pretty notorious for freewheeling drug use. I think the governor only just recently recriminalized heavy drug use, several years after Portland being totally trashed by the opioid epidemic.
